COMMENTARY: MIKE THOMAS

Vietnam vets fume when Kerry is topic Mike Thomas

February 12, 2004

I have come to the National Vietnam War Museum in search of John Kerry's brothers in arms.

Located in east Orange County on North Tanner Road, a torn-up dirt strip awaiting pavement, the museum doesn't quite live up to the title.

It is a squat building, formerly a small water-treatment facility, surrounded by a barbed-wire-topped fence. There is a Huey helicopter on the grounds, as well as an A-4 Skyhawk jet and a patrol boat similar to the one John Kerry commanded.

The star exhibit is the remnant of a Vietnam memorial fountain containing the names of 167 dead soldiers from Orange County. It once stood at the Orange County Convention Center but was tossed to make room for a food-court expansion.

If Kerry wishes to revisit the Vietnam War debate, please let him.

They are all voting for George W. Bush, a man they concede joined the National Guard to avoid the draft.

I doubt this statement. The vets probably said they would vote for him even if he did what the reporter said and the reporter spun the words. Sorry, I'm not buying this reporters spin.

"The man is despicable," says Richard "Doc" Luse, former president of the group. "He defiled people still in the field. He belittled and berated us. We are not his band of brothers."

That is exactly what John Kerry is doing today every time he opens his mouth - he is defiling the military now in Iraq! He is indeed despicable in his attempts to turn the American people into the anti-American he represents and is himself.

According to reports, Hanoi Jane said she can't remember even shaking hands with Kerry. How then can she remember he was not at one of the rallies with her and thus in the photo?

What he means is they "conceded" to the writer's set-up question on the matter. It probably went like this: "Do you concede that joining the NG was one way to avoid the draft?"

Your thoughts on Hillary's remarkable silence re: this VN/Fonda/NG/Kerry flap? I can't believe it's only because she's still carrying around an albatross of a husband who was a dodger. There must be more....

Agreed. I was interviewed by a NY Observer reporter outside the VPs house when we were protesting Gore. He quoted me three times out of context, added a southern drawl dialect to embelish my words, claimed I was "wearing a hood" (he either didn't know what a baclava was or was deliberately referencing the KKK for his audience). I promised him before the interview that, as a former Marine, if he twisted my comments I would track him down and shoot him.

You have to have noticed that she NEVER involves herself in anything controversial! She sends her minions out to take the risks!

I imagine some Viet Nam Vets might vote for Hanoi John, but haven’t met any yet.

I'd say "what did Bush know?" was pretty risky. Did she get stung too badly on that, or is it just that it's an election year?

Hillary is probably helping to kill Kerry. She is behind the scenes. Even if Kerry "gets" enough delegates by July, if he is wounded sufficiently, "his" delegates won't want to vote for him -- and they do not have to.

Then the Convention turns into a debacle. Calls go out to Hillary to save the party. She is annointed as the "New Hope For the Future".

Hillary then checks the polls and makes her decision: if she thinks Bush is beatable, she accepts the nomination. If she thinks Bush cannot be beaten, she says that she is a woman of honor (gag!), reminds everyone that she promised to complete her term as NY Senator, and says she'll be back in 2008.

Hillary's silence doesn't surprise me at all. It's all going as she has foreseen.

Not yet :) The saddest part was that he quoted me 3 times in his article but atributed my words to 3 seperate people. Apparently he was too busy fantasizing about some Dem female across the corner and didn't want his editor to know what a slacker he was. Journalistic integrity - bah.

Ah, lazy reporter. You're right - he probably was instructed by his editor to interview three people, and took the easy way out.

You should report him to his editor! :-D
