Deborah Orrin is dead wrong. Wesley "Mad Hare" Clark was brought by the Clintons into the primary as the anti-Dean candidate. He served his purpose. Now the Clintons are looking at how to stop John F. Kerry so they retain their control of the party and clear the decks after Election Day for Hillary to begin her 2008 presidential campaign.

You are quite right. Clark was never intended to win. He was only there to take the wind out of Dean's sails.

The clintons will, of course, continue to sabotage the nominee, which will only flame the party's anti-clinton rage.
I think the clintons are finished.

They are going to get Kerry after this comment.
"It was so arrogant for Clinton to think he could dictate the Democratic nominee. To talk about Clark as the 'star' was a real slap in the face to Kerry. They tried to trump Kerry's Vietnam War medals with a general," said a prominent party activist.
"It showed that Bill and Hillary don't want to win in 2004 - they want to wait for her to run in 2008. But Democrats want to win now, they don't want to wait around for her chance to run. There's starting to be a real resentment."

You can bet the farm that the Clintons have something already up their sleeves for Kerry's demise
Their M.O. shows that they don't take kindly to being challenged for a position of power or control.
They are probably sitting on enough negative stuff on Kerry, that they can leak to the media through third parties, to bring his campaign crashing down at just the right time.
Timing is everything, plus if Bush looks like a clear winner, they won't have to use it.
It has to be pulled off by their henchmen (remote control) so Hillary can keep her hands clean for 2008.
It is do or die for Hillary as if Kerry wins, she is toast and will never get the very thing she lives for. If anyone thinks the Clintons aren't going to pull out all the stops on this, they must have slept through the 90's

Bingo.
The Clintons assessed their (Hillary!'s) chances for 2004 and opted out. They will run Hillary! in 2008. (I actually believe that until the election they'll work behind the scenes to aid Bush's chances. Afterwards they will seek to discredit and besmirch Bush and all likely Republican candidates for 2008 as they arise.)

Great observation. Can anyone say 900 FBI files?
