Dr. Bob Arnot’s Parting Shot [Fired by NBC for reporting truthfully?]

For a well educated man, it took Arnot a very long time to come to the conclusion that the system in which he worked was indeed biased. Far too long.

For many Americans, the worldview post 9/11 is a lot different than it was before 9/11. Look at Dennis Miller, for example. Many people need a earth-shaking life event to begin reevaulating their life and their preconceived notions. Such an evaluation rarely comes of its own accord, and rarely happens instantly. I suspect Dr Bob was starting to question things after 9/11, and the Iraq War brought it all home to him.

Mr. Shapiro responded by e-mail, saying that NBC News had re-evaluated its coverage for 2004, determined that "we were in the post-war period in Iraq" and shifted its resources to political coverage.

Mr. Shapiro's statement does not jibe with the continuing drone emanating from his "news" shows. Katie, Matt, and the other lightweights obviously think we are still in a War.

Dr. Arnot’s enthusiasm occasionally got the best of him, said NBC News staffers, such as when Dr. Arnot—who claimed he knew how to speak Arabic—tried his chops on some Iraqi barber-shop customers, asking them what they thought of a speech by President Bush. "He’s … telling them what Bush is saying in Arabic and then translating their responses live on the air," said one co-worker, who said that NBC translators "said he was talking gibberish." "I was asking these guys yes-or-no questions, and this guy went on and on and on," said Dr. Arnot. "There are many kinds of Arabic … and am I good at understanding the Iraqi accent? No, I’m terrible."

I strongly suspect this guy's Arabic is better than 99 percent of the Western journalists in Iraq.

Yes, he is. I heard him talking about it on FNC and even he's nervous about it. They are going to leave Kuwait and drive the 1,000 mile road up to Turkey. It's extremely dangerous. They will stop at major cities along the way and talk to our troops and see for themselves what the situation is over there. I was quite surprised that they announced their plans in advance; I don't think that is wise. Geraldo said that he'd been there 3 times and felt he was using up his chips. Say what you like about him, he is supporting our troops and reports what he finds.

I am truely surprised that NBC actually has anytone in Iraq. I thought all their coverage came from dispatches issued in Toronto.
