'Bush and I were lieutenants'

George Bush and I were lieutenants and pilots in the 111th Fighter Interceptor Squadron (FIS), Texas Air National Guard (ANG) from 1970 to 1971. We had the same flight and squadron commanders (Maj. William Harris and Lt. Col. Jerry Killian, both now deceased). While we were not part of the same social circle outside the base, we were in the same fraternity of fighter pilots, and proudly wore the same squadron patch.

That's it. I know a guy who flew those planes. He said that they had only 1.5 hrs. of fuel. So, after 45 min. you had to be sure that you could get back to your base in 45 min. Plus, they could be really unstable at times.

I just got home from doing an additional drill with my Naval Reserve squadron...I'm so happy that someone finally stepped up to set the record straight. We were joking today that no one in my squadron could ever run for POTUS because we've all missed a drill or two along the way.

And .. as for AWOL, THERE IS NO SUCH CLASSIFICATION IN THE NATIONAL GUARD - EXCEPT IF THEY ARE "ACTIVITATED" - which means called to "active duty".

For McAwful to even say Lt. Bush was AWOL is a big fat lie!! So what else is new!

Sent to two of the guys at the office when I first ran across it, their responses are as follows:

Dan: Doesn't address Bush's absence from the alabama or georga or whatever SE state, national guard.

It simply defends texas national guard and the national guard in general. My brothers quote was "Don't worry, sleep tight, because you know your national guard is out partying!"

Some folks refuse to dispose of their tin-foil hats and they're hopeless; beyond any and all redemption (sans the Lord)... And they will vote their brothers (Mothers, Fathers, or the Winos) opinion; because they simply cannot, or will not, excercise independent thought.

What a pathetic state we're in...

Absolutely excellent article. I'm so sick and tired of lying Liberals. A bunch of two faced, lying back stabbers, not to mention the height of hypocrisy in their "own" backgrounds. From an Air Force pilot I dated when I was younger, they are "incredibly unforgiving". Meaning? Tricky and weird.

Do something wrong, the slightest little thing, and you are in a big recovery effort.

On May 1st, 2003, when the President flew in Navy One to land on the carrier, he was in a far more forgiving aircraft. Much more forgiving.

(Gosh as a Navy person, I just love that designator: Navy One.)

If I may, can I put in a good word for the Washington Times. Not only it the paper where you can read Cal Thomas, Ollie North, and Bill Gertz, but it is to newspapers, as Fox News is to ABCCBSNBC! It is conservative and it is so refreshing to read - I consider it the new paper "of record" since the New York Times has become birdcage fodder.

And if you FReepmail, I can tell you how to get a good deal on a subscription to the paper! Really, really good deal.

I made an a$$ of myself by asking questions that will be asked by the press anyway? Shouldn't Bush be pleased that the questions are being asked right now than the last weekend as happened in 2000 that almost certainly deprived him of a popular vote victory? Let's get this behind ourselves now sooner rather than later. If there is nothing here, then it will be completely forgotten by election date. Meanwhile Kerry has the written word to deal with.

You are taking this much too personally. I thought this was the mark of the Democrats to take things personally. I thought they were the touchy-feely types. Am I wrong?
