Bush and I were Lieutenants (Fellow Pilot Comes to Bush's Defense)
The Washington Times Letters to the Editor ^ | 2-11-4 | Col. William Campenni (ret.)

'Bush and I were lieutenants'

George Bush and I were lieutenants and pilots in the 111th Fighter Interceptor Squadron (FIS), Texas Air National Guard (ANG) from 1970 to 1971. We had the same flight and squadron commanders (Maj. William Harris and Lt. Col. Jerry Killian, both now deceased). While we were not part of the same social circle outside the base, we were in the same fraternity of fighter pilots, and proudly wore the same squadron patch.

I think the media forget that this is not 1992. Internet has forever changed the dynamics of politics.

Wasn't Kerry accused of slaughtering a bunch of civilians in Vietnam? Strange how Bush's record in the ANG can be brought back up again and again -- but the murder of civilians cannot be?

Isn't this great?

Now watch the DNC go after this guy, his voting record (because he's obviously a Bush shill), and question HIS military record.

Once again, let the Dems hang themselves.

Thanks for posting this. I'm surprised this letter wasn't clipped by the paper to a brief two paragraphs.

Jeff Gannon, whom I had the pleasure to finally meet at CPAC last month. We had emailed on a matter or two but never met.

PING

Second, there was no such thing as a "disciplinary unit in Colorado" to which Lt. Bush had been ordered. The Air Reserve Personnel Center in Denver is a repository of the paperwork for those no longer assigned to a specific unit, such as retirees and transferees. Mine is there now, so I guess I'm "being disciplined." These "disciplinary units" just don't exist.

Jeff Gannon. And that is his screen name as well, and he has a website, www.JeffGannon.com. I got the impression that screenname Bobby Eberle is his boss. Talon News seems to be linked to GOPUSA.com as well. Good luck, because I stink at the linking thing!

I served in the guard starting in 1960 - not as a pilot - and in general terms I can relate to the writer's comments. Over my 6.5 years I made up time at my unit and in remote units.

I moved during that time and met for a while with another group - and few took notice or cared that I was there. Usually when at another unit they assigned none or minimal duty. The Guard has its own culture and out of necessity accommodates the requirements of part timers.

However, regardless of the facts, some will continue to trashing the President.

This was the first thing I noticed when I went to the EDITORIAL page of the Washington Times this morning. Usually you have a series of 1 to 2 inch letters..................

This was 3 columns and nearly half a page.

Bump.
