[history]
'Bush and I were lieutenants'
George Bush and I were lieutenants and pilots in the 111th Fighter Interceptor Squadron (FIS), Texas Air National Guard (ANG) from 1970 to 1971. We had the same flight and squadron commanders (Maj. William Harris and Lt. Col. Jerry Killian, both now deceased). While we were not part of the same social circle outside the base, we were in the same fraternity of fighter pilots, and proudly wore the same squadron patch.

Actually I think that the letter and link needs to be sent to liberal news sources. The conservative ones are preaching to the choir.

Excellent!
I love this line:
"While most of America was sleeping and Mr. Kerry was playing antiwar games with Hanoi Jane Fonda, we were answering 3 a.m. scrambles for who knows what inbound threat over the Canadian subarctic the cold North Atlantic and the shark-filled Gulf of Mexico." We were the pathfinders in showing that the Guard and Reserves could become reliable members of the first team in the total force, so proudly evidenced today in Afghanistan and Iraq."
Ive noticed Lurch is already trying to back away from this false AWOL accusation.

Yeah, and both my brothers- one in the Oklahoma NG (honorably discharged and a Gulf War vet) and the other in the Michigan NG- now serving as a UN Peacekeeper in Bosnia, will be relieved that Terry was wrong. NOT!
To: ohioWfan
Yeah, I've been wondering what he's doing in Iraq since Terry said he's not military....LOL

I can't believe this story is still going on. Can you say mountain out of a fictious molehill? Meanwhile in the 60's Bubba can go to Oxford and rape to his heart's content...

Also I keep hearing all the media types proclaiming that a huge group of veterans are going to be swayed by Kerry's service. Once this fonda photo gets more and more exposure, you will see that support dry up in a heartbeat.

Now, Mo. You know this doesn't count. You're right .. wasn't it David Gregory who wanted to see a copy of the President's tax returns from 1972??

Inside Politics 2/11/04
By Greg Pierce Moore hate "The presidential campaign is already so nasty that the Democratic establishment is taking its cues from filmmaker Michael Moore," Orlando Sentinel columnist Peter A. Brown writes.
"It shows, sadly, that the Democrats believe their core supporters hate President Bush so much they don't care about the truth of accusations that impugn his character," Mr. Brown said in a piece that ran yesterday in the Philadelphia Inquirer.
"A few weeks ago, Moore called the president a 'deserter,' making the
unsupported charge that Bush did not complete his military service requirement in the Texas Air National Guard in 1972-73.
"The allegation is an article of faith among those who still wrongly believe Bush didn't fairly win the 2000 election. They don't seem to care that there's no proof of the charge.
"Bush has said he completed the meeting and flying requirements, and his honorable discharge proves the point. The loony left raised this issue during the 2000 campaign, but it didn't get any political traction. ...
"The lack of any new evidence to give their smear campaign legitimacy doesn't seem to have made a difference to the Democratic hierarchy this time. Perhaps that's because the economy and the situation in Iraq are improving and the Democrats are desperate for an issue."

The media is DEAD wrong. Kerry served and then protested the war. And now Kerry is using his service- in a war he protested- as an election tool? Every single vet in this country sees through it. It was the worst possible thing Kerry could have done, which is now why you see him backing of Bush's record. Kerry knows he blew it. And the damage will be permanent.
To: Petronski; All
'Bout time.
My husband served in the Reserves, ROTC, commissioned in '73. Of course, by then they were RIFing full scholarship career men . . . so he went ADT then 8 years Reserve.
I knew this DemoRAT story stank, because of the way things were in the Reserves at that time, but having no NG experience we really couldn't speak to what went on there.
Glad somebody stepped up to the plate.
Make sure this gets to all the usual media suspects.
