Bush's drills with the Alabama Guard confirmed

The White House yesterday released military records that it said demonstrate conclusively that President Bush completed the required drills leading to an honorable discharge from the Texas Air National Guard in 1973.

"These documents clearly show that the president fulfilled his duties," said White House spokesman Scott McClellan as he waved copies of smudgy, 31-year-old pay and accreditation records stored on microfilm in a U.S. government military archives in Colorado.

"Damn them. Damn all of them. As you stated, Ambrose, we're under attack and they think it's appropriate to undermine our president, a man who's so much better in every way, than any of them or of all of them combined."

Bravo, onyx!

"This is all so choreographed it's ridiculous. If/when the GOP starts blasting back at John Fonda Kerry for his disgraceful and borderline treasonous post-war activity, the Dems will chirp "GOP attacks!" and "unfair payback!""

Harold Ford, Jr. confirmed this on Fox a few minutes ago. Paraphrase: 'Let's move on.' 'There are still questions..if the Bush campaign wants to go there'(Steve had brought up anti-war activities of Kerry).

You are so right! Congressman Harold Ford was on Fox & Friends this morning and he said that Pres. Bush's National Guard service shouldn't be brought up again, but if people started talking about John Kerry's war protest that George Bush would have to produce ALL OF HIS RECORDS. Well, DUH! He already has. It sounded like a threat, to me. You could tell that Kerry's little congressman wasn't too comfortable trying to explain his anti-war activities.

They think they can turn it on when it helps them and turn it off when it hurts them. Sorry, but they started it and I'm going to help keep John Kerry's "friendship" with Hanoi Jane Fonda stay out in front. I am not going to take this crap from those whimps.

Funny thing is, if Bush had gone to Oxford and evaded the draft, burned his draft card, consorted with Communists, burned American flags, and spoke against the war in Vietnam, Liberals wouldn't have any problem with his behavior whatsoever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who knows? It was a long time ago. If I was asked to somehow confirm my college education, that is, if someone inisted that the paperwork wasn't good enough, I don't know who I would call.

I had some friends there but lost touch with all of them. The teachers that knew me best are gone. In a pinch I suppose I could fish somebody up, as I am sure the admin can for Dubya.

Interesting to note that I was away for one semester studying at another school. I bet that anyone who does remember me in college (1986-1990) and asked to confirm where I was would probably (incorrectly) remember me being at my mother school during the semester I was away at another university. They wouldn't be lying, they would just be wrong.

And I graduated in 1990, which isn't even that long ago.

The form McAwful refers to is called the "Officer Efficiency Report" and is a routine evaluation form filled out annually. As a Reserve Officer during those same years, I had OER's filled out on me, and filled out OER's on others.

The categories for evaluation had three "scores" to choose from: "Satisfactory", Unsatisfactory," and "Did not observe," to be applied to a list of critical job skills.

"Did not observe" meant just that--the rating officer had no DIRECT knowledge or observation of the officer's performance of the skill in question. It does NOT mean that the officer "was not present" or that the officer did not perform those skills.

It is a twisted distortion, of course, for the democrats to pretend otherwise.

Here's another related comment.

We've already discussed the "Not Observed" ---

It's the absolutely correct data for ANY officer not directly observed by his CO: The temporary duty station NEVER issues fitness reports (Air Force Officer Efficiency report or OER); those can ONLY be done by the actual commanding officer.

A "Not Observed" means that the officer in question was performing his duty and had no problems for that period (it NOT NEGATIVE information, but was not seen on a day-to-day basis by the CO.

Now, if you want to get promoted, you make sure your record is clean of "Not Observed" because they don't "puff up" your image and promote your impression.

But they are deliberately neutral comments.

"We also still do not know why the president's superiors filed a report saying they were unable to evaluate his performance for that year because he had not been present to be evaluated," he said.

Can someone tell me what this "unable to evaluate performance" means miltarily? I read in a post here today (I've searched for over an hour and can't relocate the post) where a Freeper explained that this did not mean Bush was not physically there to be evaluated but something else. Any help?

When Bush went back to Texas after serving in Alabama, he was evaluated by offucers in the Texas ANG. Since he was in Alabama, and not in Texas, they had no basis for evaluation. Furthermore, as I recall, his records were not transferred back when he returned to his unit - an astoundingly common occurence even into the 1990s (I can't comment on more recent trends) - so there were no specifics in his records to base the evaluation on either.

Well, if this report is true about the months of the campaign, there aren't any records missing at all, are there?

Regardless, even if there were records specific to this time, if he didn't get in trouble, or wasn't missing, they would normally have been disposed of soon after he left to go back to Texas. In the Regular military, when one is temporarily assigned to other units, it is all too common for the records not to follow you back to your unit. I myself had to make special requests or in two cases return myself to get records for while I was in training, as they never made it back to my unit on their own. One set of those records had to be reconstructed, as the originals were not to be found (Don't know if they destroyed them, or never transfered instructor records into permanent records).

BTW does anyone know if it was normal for three times wounded soldiers to ask for early out?

As I understand it was available to be transferred out of Vietnam if one was wounded in combat three times. Kerrys tour, as I recall was four months. I'm not aware of any of the wounds being serious though, but that wasn't neccessary to qualify for the rule.

Why is it that someone -- anyone -- who had seen him during training exercizes in Alabama has not stepped forward to say so ?

In 2000, there were a couple of peers who did. The media has been concentrating on twisted versions of Turnipseeds comments.

Let it also be noted that Kerry left his tour of duty early as well- since he had three separate war wounds, he could chose to go home. He did.

Kerry is a Benedict Arnold, once a good soldier and later a traitor. Since he joined with Jane Fonda and to this day he has voted to hurt US military strength.Kerry belongs with the far left in Massachusetts and there he should stay.

Thanks for troubling to respond to my post. I agree with your point about the limitations of our recollections. However, I must say I think I'd have recalled if I ever met or worked with someone whose dad was, at the time, the U.S. ambassador to the U.N. The most puzzling thing for me is that responses I've had to my post, which was essentially repeated in the same form in other threads in FR on the same subject, have said there ARE individuals who said they saw GWB in Alabama at the time. If so, why hasn't the White House made a loud-and-clear pronouncement to this effect, something that would, I expect, squash further discussion of the subject?

Hey how are you? I dunno about the US Embassador to the UN thing. I went to college with several people who were politically and socially connected, and I haven't recalled them for years. I'm trying to remember some now, and it's difficult, and my memory is usually pretty good.

As for the witnesses, I am certain they exist but the dominant media culture will not be placated by them. They will continue to 'wonder' about the adequacy of the evidence, and invariably attack the witness for bringing them 'bad news' from their perspective. I'm sure some folks will come forward, but so will some buffoon who 'can't recall' and guess who gets all the media attention?
