WASHINGTON (AP) - The Whitehouse.com Web site, one of the best examples that the Internet isn't always what it seems, is getting out of the pornography business. Its owner says he's worried what his preschool-age son might think.
"He'll be going to kindergarten next year,'' said Daniel Parisi, who started the Web site in 1997 that is frequently confused with the official government site, www.whitehouse.gov. Parisi, 44, said he worried that his son's classmates might taunt him about the family's business.

Some of my wifes aunts run an arts and crafts business from their family farm. They call the business "The Farmers Daughters Arts and Crafts". They wanted me to help them create an on-line presence.
I found out very shortly that you do not want any address that has "Farmers daughters" in it or any thing close to it.

"Every time our kids were doing homework about the White House or the presidency, they would type in dot-com," said Parry Aftab, who runs the WiredSafety organization.Every single time? Either his kids couldn't remember dot-gov, he couldn't be bothered with monitoring his kids, or maybe they were putting one over on dear old dad.

Just don't go to whitehouse.org
To: Sabertooth

This is somwhat off-topic, but in the end, it really is a problem with ICANN. Several times, it has been proposed to create a ".xxx" top-level domain for pornograpghy sites. Most porn sites would prefer that because then they couldn't be accused of intentionally misrepresenting themselves, and it would be easier to set up filters to block the sites from places where they shouldn't be viewed (busineses, libraries, parental controls, etc.).

Well gosh haven't we always been told that it's harmless, and prefectly legitimate? So why would he worry about his kid knowing about it? Besides we all know the children can't get onto these kind of sites.

A great opportunity to set up a site about the buying and selling of favors so common in the White House, no matter what president is sitting.
You could do a reservation system, with the Lincoln Bedroom rented out at a certain price, but you state the favor you want in return.
