The guy in panel 3 is definitely Republican. And the speaker in panel 5 caused me to immediatly think of the former Republican governor of Tennessee, Don "Taxquist" Sundquist. (BTW - we now have a Democratic governor who cut state spending 9% across the board, and the state is now in surplus with no tax increase.)

"[C]ut state spending 9% across the board, and the state is now in surplus with no tax increase.)"Wow! Hadn't heard about that here in Sothern Cali. How can we spread this news across America so people in the "blue states" know it?

The latte tax was proposed in Seattle. The "one of the highest" taxed is also heard in Washington state (where we do not have an income tax, though they keep trying...).

How can we spread this news across America so people in the "blue states" know it? I don't know, but it certainly can be a path to political success. That governor (Phil Bredesen) is already being floated as a VP candidate on the Demo ticket this year, presumably because he would demonstrate that Demos can actually show some spending restraint. (Unfortunately, Bush has convincingly demonstrated that he cannot.)

To the question, "Are the speakers Republicans or Democrats?", the answer is "yes".
