Secretary of State Colin Powell blasted Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe on Friday for claiming that President Bush went AWOL from the National Guard in 1972, saying the DNC chief's attack was "scurrilous."
Asked about McAuliffe's allegation, the former Joint Chiefs Chairman and Vietnam veteran told radio host Sean Hannity that Democrats should "get on to the issues of the day and not reach back to these kinds of scurrilous attacks, especially against a Commander-in-Chief who is fighting wars right now in active theaters in Afghanistan and in Iraq and on the global war against terrorism."
"It's very disturbing and I wish this kind of attack wouldn't take place," Powell complained.
Speaking of Bush and Democratic presidential frontrunner John Kerry, the one-time top military man told Hannity, "Both men served. They served honorably. They got honorable discharges. They both stood up when their country needed them."

No friggin wonder why the plan may be to decimate the Dem. party. So far they are more than asking for a beating.
We will wipe the floor with them in Nov. In the mean time Terry, look for a super surprise in your cereal box, probably late summer.

GOOD. He has nothing to be ashamed of. Oh and Kerry DID seem to imply the National Guard isn't real military. He did it again the other day. Have to see if I can find the quote. Read it on CNN yesterday I think it was....

This just shows the desperation of the 'Rats right now. They are drunk with joy over Bush's approval dropping to 50%, still an absolute record high for a President at this time in his first term. So they go for some ammo to further wound our Commander-in-Chief. Do they pick impeachable offenses; current sex scandals in the Oval Office; numerous murders and questionable deaths in his inner circle? No. The best they can come up with some poor record-keeping in an Alabama Guard Unit that met once a month in the 70's. George W. for 18-months was in full-time training to fly an unforgiving F-102 fighter plane. He had within a few weeks of the same days of service as Al Gore, a full-time soldier.
The only good thing is that this issue will be fully innoculated by July-August when the adult & serious campaigning begins. George W. is going to earn an old nickname this campaign: "The Happy Warrior." Win, lose, or draw--he's goin' to give 'em Hell. Or as Harry Truman said, "I just tell 'em the truth, and they think it's Hell."
God bless this true American hero. His second term will be something to behold. Without the need to ever run for office again, I think that George W. will pursue a methodical plan to establish the Republican Party as the dominant Right-Center party for a generation. I really think that ultimately Bill Clinton will be like Jimmy Carter, an irrational throw-back in a steadily more conservative-leaning America. Clinton will be book-ended by truly great Republican leaders: Reagan/Bush 41, and then another Ronald Reagan (happy 93rd birthday, sir), George W. Bush.

That may happen. Even the hardcore libs at work are starting to dislike this guy. They claim he is preventing the defeat of Bush by sounding irrational.

McAwful has lost a majority of elections for his party since 2000. What's to like, even for a Democrat?
To: CROSSHIGHWAYMAN
I remember this punk sitting in a golf cart with clinton with a smirk on his face saying we have 9,000 votes waiting to be counted for gore in florida we have this election rapped up.

The New York Times worked this story for months and couldn't pin AWOL on Bush. Heaven knows they tried.
To: reformedliberal
WOW.
The CNN story, The Gloves Come Off, had Terry Holt repeating Kerry, not a Kerry quote.... but
TownHall has a transcript of a Kerry interview containing some DOOZIES.
"No. I have always said, across my long, distinguished career of public service, that I would never judge the choices of anyone during the Vietnam War. Not those who chose to burn their draft cards. Not those who chose to flee to Canada. Not those who chose to drop acid and commit public sex acts. Not even those cowardly weasels who chose to serve in the National Guard."
"When I was maneuvering through the Mekong Delta, and the jungle heat was nearly intolerable, some of my comrades in arms would say, 'I hate those cowardly pantywaists who stayed home to serve in the National Guard.' "
Kerry apparently doesn't realize that there are National Guard members serving both here and in Iraq right now. Since these remarks are RECENT, it's obvious he still has a very low opinion of the National Guard.
His accusations against the president therefore stem from his hatred of the National Guard.
