The advance of the Welfare State means the retreat of Liberty. We've gone down the road to hell a long way in the last 40 years.
Every time I read it I'm astounded at the timeless quality of this speech. The sentiment expressed by Reagan 40 years ago is every bit - if not more - appropriate today.
Principles really are enduring, while the political pandering of the moment is quickly forgotten. Always choosing the former over the latter, I suspect, will be Reagan's legacy.
