SANAA, Yemen, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- A purported statement by al-Qaida in Yemen warned Saturday of a "major strike" soon in the United States.
The statement, distributed by the Yemeni Tagamoo Party for Reforms, said: "A major strike, a big event will take place in America soon," reminiscent of the Sept. 11 attacks.

Now, of OBL is going to "die in the belly of the Eagle" before the end of this (Muslim) year- he has only a day or so left.
I have a really bad feeling about today. Seeing the terror alert raised in Japan, to its highest level, indicates that there is some very frightening information out there.
I fear AQ has already launched its bio stuff across the board.
Let's pray that we can thwart their evil plans.

I read somewhere that it ends (mecca) tonight?

U.S. Practices Evacuation of South Korea
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) -- It's a scenario Monica Tucker hates to consider, yet the Army wife diligently prepares for it: North Korean artillery raining down, communist soldiers streaming south and panicked civilians fleeing Seoul as war erupts on the divided Korean Peninsula.
Tucker's fears were allayed, if only slightly, this week as the U.S. military launched a three-day exercise to practice evacuating thousands of foreign civilians in South Korea in the event of attack.
But this year's biannual drill, which began Thursday, comes amid heightened tensions over North Korea's efforts to build an atomic bomb. The event quickly drew sharp criticism from the North as a provocation ahead of six-nation talks next week on efforts to persuade it to scrap its nuclear weapons program.
``Going through the exercises makes me less worried,'' said Tucker, a native of Cincinnati who registered her two children at a makeshift processing center in Seoul. ``The most difficult part? Making sure everybody gets out OK.''
U.S. military officials say the regular exercise is not a response to the nuclear dispute. Tension, as well as armed clashes, have ebbed and spiked on the peninsula ever since the 1950-53 Korean War. An evacuation could also be called during civil unrest or natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods and typhoons.
But North Korea lashed out at the drill on Friday, saying it is evidence that a ``new war by the U.S. is drawing near on the Korean peninsula.'' The commentary, carried by the North's official KCNA news agency, said the training sends the wrong message ahead of the talks.
The North also warned that any U.S. attempt to ``survive'' a war by evacuating civilians would fail.
``In case the United States ignites a war in this land carried away by war fever, the aggressors can never escape from the range of our formidable strikes, wherever they may be,'' KCNA said.
The drills underscore the mammoth task of getting civilians out of harm's way.
The U.S. Embassy says as many as 107,000 U.S. civilians are in South Korea and efforts would be made to evacuate all of them in an emergency. At least 14,000 are family members of the 37,000 U.S. troops deployed in the South. The United States might also try to evacuate nationals of other allied countries as well.
About 12,000 people are expected to take part in the first of this year's two exercises, some being evacuated to the southern city of Busan by train while others are airlifted to ``safety'' at U.S. bases in Japan aboard military aircraft, U.S. Army spokesman Stephen Oertwig said.
The first participants began trickling into a tent on a basketball court in Seoul shortly after 6 a.m. Thursday.
Soldiers logged names, blood types and social security numbers into computers. Civilians were issued bar-coded bracelets that allow evacuees to be tracked at each stage of their journey.
A U.S. Army chaplain was on hand, and a table offered complimentary copies of the Bible. Military paralegals were available to advise people on powers of attorney and writing a will.
Civilians also reviewed how to use a gas mask. North Korea is believed by U.S. military officials to have large chemical and biological weapon arsenals, and family members of all U.S. military personnel are issued protective suits upon arrival in South Korea. Even infants are outfitted, with sleeved bubble-like costumes that include an internal attachment for pacifiers.
During a real emergency, evacuees would be asked to bring a three-day supply of food and water. Cars and pets left behind would also eventually be shipped out.
Barring border skirmishes and Cold War intrigue, the armistice that ended the 1950-53 Korean War has been largely upheld for a half-century. But tension over the North's nuclear programs persists despite diplomatic efforts to solve the problem, and tens of thousands of battle-ready troops are still dug in along the inter-Korean border.
South Korea is on the southern tip of a peninsula; the only way out is by sea or air.

Airport Power Outage #1:
Power Outage Delays Some Birmingham Flights
Birmingham International Blackout Lasts About An Hour
POSTED: 10:28 am CST February 14, 2004
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- An hour-long electrical power failure at Birmingham International Airport caused some flight delays Saturday morning.
Airport spokesman Patty Howell said the airport lost power for about an hour, temporarily shutting down security checkpoints and affecting 11 outgoing flights.
Howell said the airport's emergency generators kicked in, but weren't programmed to push power through the entire airport. Because of that, the security checkpoints were idled and couldn't screen passengers or luggage.
However, the delayed flights had all departed by late Saturday morning.

LA JOLLA, Calif. -- An apparent chemical explosion rocked a La Jolla research facility Friday, sparking a fire and prompting contamination concerns, 10News reported.
The blast occurred in a laboratory at Scripps Research Institute in the 10600 block of North Torrey Pines Road around 10 a.m.
Hundreds of employees were evacuated from the building and one person was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
Engine crews had the resulting blaze quelled by 11 a.m., he said. They then called in a hazardous-materials team to check the complex for the presence of any unhealthy substances.
