"the left would be calling this "war hero" a coward for murdering a wounded and retreating soldier."
What I find ironic is that is what some Republicans are doing exaclty in respect to Kerry. Even posting on here that Kerry shot a wounded teen in a ghandi like diaper. There is a lot of smearing on both sides.
I never considered Kerry's service as an issue for attack. Just like Bush they served and got an honorable discharge. The post Navy record for Kerry should have been t he line of attack not to question the medals - which is unseemly for Republicans.
For the record I have no reason to doubt the Navy's official record on Kerry and tip my hat to his service. But his post war record I consider quasi-treasonable and without honor. Post war record is what we should be getting him on.

"For the record I have no reason to doubt the Navy's official record on Kerry and tip my hat to his service."
Unfortunately, this is very much a part of the hypocrisy. Both the Democrats and the media did "doubt" the "offical record" when it came to Bush's Honorable Discharge from the National Guard. Unlike George Bush, who has nothing but praise for Kerry's service, it was Kerry, himself who did question Bush's "offical record" in the National Guard. When asked about the issue on Feb. 8, 2004 (from WSJ), Kerry stated:
"The issue here, as I have heard it raised, is was he (Bush) present and active duty in Alabama at the time he was suppose to be...Just because you get an honorable discharge does not, in fact, answer that question,"
This is an interesting position for this man to take considering some of his own official records are now in question...and as a defense, they are pointing to this record as the end-all in this debate. Of course, the media in their defense of Kerry has also pointed this out, in an attempt to get others to drop the issue.
Unfortunately for Bush, his official honorable discharge was not the end-all, as he was barraged for months with questions and demands to produce further records..including his dental records. And Kerry wasn't finished questioning Bush's record. From NBC News on 4/26/04, Kerry asks:
"If George Bush wants to ask me questions about that through his surrogates, he owes America an explanation about whether or not he showed up for duty in the National Guard. Prove it. That's what we ought to have. I'm not going to stand around and let them play games." -- John Kerry, NBC News, 4/26/04.
The hypocrisy and double-standards are astounding.

It is barely ever mentioned, but Kerry was in the
Naval Reserve and also got out early:
December, 1969 -- Kerry requests an early discharge from the Navy in order to run for a Massachusetts congressional seat on an antiwar platform.
January 3, 1970 -- Kerry is discharged from active duty.

Destro...I don't know or care what you are. I only know that you frequently ignore what you don't want to hear. The people who are attacking Kerry are those who served with him. They have as much right...if not more, to speak on this issue as anyone. Those who attacked Bush, did not serve with him. You don't like it...tough sh*t..turn the channel. The fact is, it's about time Republicans grew a spine and started fighting back. Take you high-minded "I'm a Republican so I don't have to belong to such a mindset" and blow it out your arse.

"A -fascinating- article that desperately needs a bump!"
One of the realities of the times that people don't consider today was if a person like Bush had been drafted the only way he'd make it into a combat unit would be to volunteer. The Army did not, as a rule, send college graduates to Infantry School. Before my hypertension designated me IY the people at Fort Hamilton Center told me that, given my credentials, a journalism degree, I'd probably be tasked for military journalism.
I have many friends who graduated from Fordham with me who served in combat. Not one was a draftee. All were ROTC or Marine PLC.Three friends were drafted. Only one got to Vietnam, as an intelligence specialist working with the "white mice". So the idea that Bush avoided Vietnam is basic nonsense given the realities. He served 2+ years active duty, flew a supersonc aircraft, and even volunteered to join squadron mates deploying to Nam. He did about as well as John Kerry's father did in WWII. Flying aircraft stateside, never seeing a 190 or a Zero. Do the Dems condemn the elder Kerry too.?

The liberal media bias... forget bias, incredible blatant LYING now... is completely out of control.
BTW, here is the link for Ben Barnes actual video of him stating he helped Bush "when I was lt. governor".... no telling how long the unedited video will stay up though.
