February 3, 2004 -- CBS is moving to bounce Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake from next Sunday's Grammy Awards amid the national uproar following their X-rated, prime-time Super Bowl stunt. Sources told The Post the network will demand the two stars be tossed from 46th Annual Grammy Awards if CBS's probe shows the duo schemed in advance to expose Jackson's pierced breast during the halftime spectacle.

Viacom should be publicly banned from ever hosting another NFL venue.
Make them an object lesson. Send the others a message.
27K in fines per affiliate is NOT a disincentive for more BS.

CBS doesn't need to demand anything -- they're airing the show, aren't they? If the Grammy people won't get these two off the show, CBS can run some of their interminable promos instead of airing their lip-synching strip show.

More offensive than Jackson's performance was some black chick I saw on CNN upset that America was criticizing a black woman and tying it to the start of Black History Month.
Let that sink in for a moment.
America is a bunch of racists, in her mind, if we can't accept a black woman's urge to be psuedo-raped by a white "singer" in front of millions at a football game on national television. Yup, that sure stands right there with Martin Luther King and George Washington Carver. Glad to know some folks are so in tuned with their roots.

Hmmm.... the story unfolds.
(1) MTV hinting days in advance that something was going to happen.
(2) Janet spills the beans. "She said MTV, which produced the show, did not know about the boob surprise - and she apologized for the stunt, saying ->>"it was not my intention that it go as far as it did."<<-
(3)Justin gets caught spinning the event. " In his apology, Timberlake said the titillating surprise was not intentional - it was merely a ->>"wardrobe malfunction."<<- How did it malfunction? Was the whole front supposed to come off?
But he later told "Access Hollywood" that "we love giving you all something to talk about." I thought it malfunctioned?

The following are Viacom owned companies. A conservative parent's worst nightmare.
Remember Simon & Schuster who paid Hillary $8 million for her book & CBS did that lovely hatchet job on President Reagan with Mr. Streisand. |
It all makes sense. |

What a crock...the headline should read, "CBS Tittilation Move to Promote Grammy's Backfire".
CBS has an identity problem. Their upper management think like VH1 and MTV and VIACOM and Blockbuster and those concerns but forget CBS the broadcaster has an audience of older, family people.
So they continue to try and reach a "hip" audience and fail. Besides, their core viewers have more money than the brats...heck, they are giving the brats their cash in allowances.
So now they "pretend" to be appalled and "threaten" through tabloid trash that they'll "put a leash on Janet and Justin"...which they'll probably do literally this Sunday.
Only a moron would buy this crap.

CBS and MTV both denied they knew ahead of time about the stunt, but photographers covering the Super Bowl reported that reps for the two artists told photographers where to stand in order to get the best view. One shutterbug said handlers for Jackson and Timberlake advised them to be "ready for the surprise."
I figured this HAD to be the case--it was the only explanation for the multitude of wire-service stills of the, er, Crucial Moment from several different photographers. But I am a bit surprised to see it publicly acknowleged!

What was it I heard in a comedy skit yesterday?...
Janet and the "Nipple Of Death"...
And Janet Jackson's stunt at the superbowl has claimed at least one life as a Desmoine man inadvertently electrocuted himself while attempting to lick his TV following the halftime finale...
So much for the last "normal Jackson"...

CBS & the NFL should be penalized for indecent exposure. PENALTY = NO BROADCASTS FR ONE YEAR!
To: Fenris6
27K? I've read it's going to be in the millions. Even CBS/Viacom owned and operated network TV stations that happend to be airing the Super Bowl will have to pony up or risk losing their broadcast license. I agree 27K is just chump change, but Chairman Powell seems to want to send an even larger "message".

I didn't watch the halftime show. Never do. Actually, I didn't watch much of the game, instead I watched the movie M*A*S*H on FX.
However, I did go to the iFilms website, which has all of the commercials from the Super Bowl braodcast. From that, I compiled a list of all of the advertisers and sent each one an email detailling how "shocked, simply shocked" I was about the AOL Halftime show and how I was gonna not use their products or services and specifically named the closest competitor and their specific products instead until they publicly applied pressure to Viacom and CBS to come clean.
For instance, the Anhueser Busch note stated that I would only drink Miller and Coors products from now on. For AOL, I told them I would be signing up with Netzero (Earthlink is their other big competitor), and so on. It was fun doing the research and I sit in eager anticipation for their replies. I encourage everyone to try this, whether you intend to follow through or not. It makes the advertiser think hard about their advertising budget expenditures and that is where CBS makes its dough.

In an internal memo obtained by The Post, CBS boss Les Moonves told staffers, "I want to offer my personal assurances that we are looking into this matter and will do everything we can to get to the bottom of it. "We attended all rehearsals of the show and there was no indication at any time that such an inappropriate display was contemplated."Yes, how about that? They attended all of the rehearsals, yet they are shocked, shocked that music about getting someone's clothes off, and showing gyrating dancers taking clothes off, actually led to someone actually getting some clothes off.
I really hope that the NFL takes over control of the half time show, and the host city provides the talent for the opening stuff.
This is really a lot like what was wrong with Enron etal...it's an out-of-touch, out-of-control corporation (Viacom) that finally pushed the envelope so far that a comotose population finally woke up and got disgusted.
