Tinseltown Tizzy: Why Won't America Watch Our Awful Movies?
Newsmax ^ | 2/2/04 | Carl Limbacher

Hollywood is in a huff that Americans are staying away from the movies in droves. It just can't seem to make the connection between the horrible quality of its recent releases and the disastrous box-office figures.

Critics as well as Joe and Jane Sixpack have been holding their noses at such duds as "The Butterfly Effect," "Paycheck," "The Perfect Score," "Torque" and "Win a Date With Tad Hamilton."

"The year got off to a frigid start as the national box office in January registered an anemic $628.8 million - the lowest gross in the past four years. And worse yet, admissions for the month could only muster a bleak seventh-best showing," Hollywood Reporter fretted today. (Make that "muster only.")

"Estimated admissions for January were 103.5 million - a decrease of 3% from last year's 106.8 million and down nearly 10% from the 114.5 million tallied for the month in 2002. Essentially, it was the lowest attendance registered in the past seven years. And compared with the record for the month, total ticket units were down a grim 18% from the 126.1 million counted in 1998, when 'Titanic' was on its unprecedented maiden voyage through theaters."

January is a notorious time for Tinseltown to dump some of its worst fodder, but this year's lineup is stinky even by those low standards.

"Pure disaster," Robert Butler of the Kansas City Star said of "The Big Bounce," which rated a miserable 15 percent at rottentomatoes.com and made only $3.3 million to tank at 12th place in its debut.

The only bright news at the box office: the decent leftovers from last year's batch. Although released in December, "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" was January's most popular movie.

Dear Hollywood:

Here is your recipe for success:

  1. Fire your anti-American jackwits. America doesn't owe them a living and neither do you. If they need work, tell 'em to go with hat in hand to the "genius" Castro.
  2. Produce movies with a meaningful plot to appeal to anyone with a physical age over 19 and an IQ over 100.
  3. Make movies about heroes, not victims.
  4. FYI: Victims are not heroes, no matter how much spin you put on it.
  5. Take a page from 1940s Hollywood that did patriotic movies as the nation was fighting fascism and imperialism. (Real fascism and imperialism...not the dime-story phony tripe you Liberals trot out when you don't get your way.)
  6. Less vice. More virtue.

That'll do for a start.

And don't call us...we'll call you.

I want GOOD movies, like law and order films, pro-military and patriotic movies, etc.

I'm tired of the liberal B.S. "Oscar-type" movies, hip-hop comedy and dating movies, crappy PG-13 action movies with no substance, etc.

6) Special effects, explosions and vehicle chases are not substitutes for story, acting, and directing

I would rather see special effects and explosions than anything that Hollywood sees as a good story. Don't preach liberal garbage either on or off the screen and I might go see one of your movies.

"Stop targeting 80% of your movies to 15 y/os and maybe I'll spend 10 bucks to see a movie. "

It's worse than that. Look at how many movies and tv shows are targeted to homosexuals which represent less than 1% of the population.

Look at how many movies are promoting interracial themes.

Holywood producers are more interested in making political statements, promoting shock value, and pandering to their own interests than they are in making quality entertainment for the masses.

When does "The Passion" start?

My fear is that the Passion will be a huge success, and we will be "treated" to the major studios playing "me too" with religion.

Many folks rationalize downloading movies and music as it helps defund the Hollywierd left. It also bugs the he|| out them.

With all the news today of how hot the advanced tix are for The Passion, I'm buying mine today.

Here's hoping the anticipated success of The Passion inspires Mel to produce more of the same.

It's interesting how they don't blame piracy for it. If this were about the music industry, there wouldn't be a word about how much the music lately sucks, it would be all about those evil piraters.

Of course, movies are a lot harder to download (around 100 times the size), but still...

"Why Won't America Watch Our Awful Movies?"

I have no idea why....

Sky News ^ | 5-21-03

'MATRIX CRITICS? **** 'EM'

Matrix Reloaded star Laurence Fishburne turned the air blue live on Sky News when he was interviewed at the UK premiere of the blockbuster film.

Fishburne, who plays the mack-clad Morpheus, was asked by Sky's Matt Smith what he thought about the critical response to the sci-fi thriller.

The star raised his middle finger and launched into a four-letter tirade before walking away with security staff.

Hollywood is in a huff that Americans are staying away from the movies in droves. It just can't seem to make the connection between the horrible quality of its recent releases and the disastrous box-office figures.

Could it be the fact that Americans are sick and tired of hollywood elitists, who spent more time in rehab then in college, spouting off at the mouth thinking they are qualified to run the country? The same hypocrites who berate the President for environmental policies yet drive around in limo's that get 3 miles to the gallon? The same liberals who decry the predicament of the poor yet live in the lap of luxury? This started long ago when these pieces of crap spout off at the mouth and berated our President for trying to protect our nation and taking out a murderous/terrorist dictator....does anyone see the connection to this with the fact that last years' academy awards was the lowest rated telecast in a millennium? The glorious part is they are too stupid to realize this! I have not been to a movie theater in two-years as I do my utmost not to support hollywood and people like Harvey Fienstein, Michael Moore-on, Sarandon, Penn and the likes!

'Mr. C4E and I haven't seen a movie in the last year or two. We refuse to pay good money to support a loud-mouthed, liberal, America bashing actor/actress. Kinda like boycotting French products. The quality of our life has not deteriorated at all.'

Couldn't agree more. Living near Westwood, where they hold the premiers, I am treated to many of these liberal pukes. After listening while Julia Roberts claimed to her adoring fans that she looked up Republican in the dictionary and found it nestled between 'repugnant' and 'reptile' well, I cannot give her my hard earned money. Her or her ilk.. not one cent from me.
