Who threw it on the floor, right?

I'm glad to hear that, Howlin. Consistency and integrity are connected. At the risk of labeling and categorizing, a number of "Bushbots" are willing to give any pro-Bush person a pass on the same actions they'd be screaming about if a Dim had done the same thing. I trust you would agree with me.

Maybe Viacom should tell team owners that football's violent and citizens should be ashamed of watching it.
I'll bet owners would love to give up a third of their TV viewers. Yeah, conservatives and families are not welcome at NFL games. That's the ticket.
So what I hear Viacom saying is football is a violent game and we should be ashamed of ourselves for watching it. Therefore, showing nudity during the halftime is entirely acceptable.

he did not throw it on the floor- he actually had someone behind him that kept it off the floor when he took it off. That person was there for no other reason than to keep it off the floor. I am not defending his wearing of the flag in the manner that he did, but I assure you it did not get thrown on the floor.

Did anyone notice what Janet and others were saying? She sang against "social injustice" and "poverty." They ended the show with a tirade about "choice." I didn't feel surprised or "violated" by what these yahoos did and said. Hell, it was a little show put on by MTV on CBS. What did you expect? God Bless America or something?

I don't get all that worked up by any of this. The cartoons my kids watched twenty years ago had He-Man and She-Ra wearing skimpy, revealing costumes. This was really tame. In an era where gayness is everywhere, I caught a couple of gay comedy lines in the commercials. They went fast and I didn't tape them, so don't recall the examples and really don't want to. But that's the thing I continually see promoted, that we might take objection to.
25 years ago, women wore a lot of revealing stuff on TV, as they did throughout the years of the sexual revolution. There is very little of that today. What is offensive seems to be primarily in remarks made or lifestyles depicted. My twentysomething sons read Maxim, and it's tamer than even the "stag" magazines of my day.
I used to see more flesh on TV watching "Circus of the Stars." A lot more. This is much made of nothing, and for the record I was so busy tuning out that halftime show I never noticed Janet's revelation.

...offending those that many might consider prudes is wholly acceptable...
Sorry if I wasn't clear in my explanation - I didn't mean it that way at all. I really can understand why some people might be offended by that commercial. I didn't call anyone a prude, nor did I mean to imply that someone would have to be a prude to find that commercial offensive.
I just thought it was funny, and wasn't offended by it at all. I wasn't making any judgements about people who might have been offended by it.

Hey CBS: what about porno that you sponsor, like the recent episode between Timberlake and Jackson, after CBS assured NFL authorities that nothing untoward would occur?

There's no one, absolutely no one, who puts 12 year olds to bed at 8. That's not the problem. Liberals have many, many channels to push soft core porn on - and still, they had to push it on a family football game. The question is "why"?
Here's my theory: hollywood mtv types are so emotionally and sexually dead inside that only the most outrageous can turn them on. They do the extreme because they've lost the ability to feel - and shocking acts become their inadequate substitute.
Hollywood liberal MTV types express hatred for citizens who can love and feel love. Real love doesn't work for them - no, their sex jokes are about whips. They're dead inside. And they hate us for it.
We produce age-appropriate programming ... What kind of parents allow their kids to stay up after 8 p.m. on a school night to view violent sports?"

I get it. It doesn't matter what he did with the flag last night, because he's pro-Bush and pro-troops. ~Intent~ matters a great deal!
To: Howlin
He did not. I watched. Someone took it when he removed it.
To: AmishDude
And the stagehand threw it on the ground. Look again.

I'd rather have someone who doesn't know the Flag Code but makes a clumsy display of patriotism than an anal-retentive Pharisee whose obsession with the minutia of rules makes people afraid to even display a flag.
To: Howlin
That I didn't see. I didn't have the halftime show on freeze-frame to be honest.
To: small_l_libertarian
Oh, sorry. I wasn't really directing that comment at you, just kinda in general. I was basically looking at Hollywood as the entity thinking of others as prudes. Guess i should have made myself clearer. 8 * )

I'm sure the NFL doesn't feel that way. I think the NFL should step up to the plate and do something about this.

(I've been dying sitting here waiting for you to post, because I was afraid you thought I was insulting you. I even thought up a great analogy to explain what I actually meant! < /Paranoia>)
Glad we're on the same page.

I think you're right. They've got to be doing damage control as we speak. NFL owners aren't ready to give up a third of their viewers.
