NEW YORK - CBS apologized for an unexpectedly R-rated end to its Super Bowl halftime show, when singer Justin Timberlake (news) tore off part of Janet Jackson (news)'s top, exposing her breast.
The two singers were performing a flirtatious duet to end the halftime show, and at the song's finish, Timberlake reached across Jackson's leather gladiator outfit and pulled off the covering to her right breast.
The network quickly cut away from the shot, and did not mention the incident on the air.
Timberlake said he did not intend to expose Jackson's breast.
"I am sorry that anyone was offended by the wardrobe malfunction during the halftime performance of the Super Bowl," Timberlake said in a statement. "It was not intentional and is regrettable."
Wade said CBS officials attended rehearsals of the halftime show all week, "and there was no indication any such thing would happen. The moment did not conform to CBS' broadcast standards and we would like to apologize to anyone who was offended."
The Super Bowl halftime show, which also featured P. Diddy, Nelly and Kid Rock, was produced by MTV, CBS' corporate cousin in Viacom.
"We were extremely disappointed by elements of the MTV-produced halftime show," Joe Browne, NFL executive vice president, said. "They were totally inconsistent with assurances our office was given about the content of the show.
"It's unlikely that MTV will produce another Super Bowl halftime."
MTV issued a contrite statement, saying the incident was "unrehearsed, unplanned, completely unintentional."

What an all time low for America, to hype the Bowl and then allow this kind of trash to view worldwide. It is a discusting show of the worse kind and CBS, the NFL and MTV should be held responsible. The creeps who put on the show really don't know any better. Thanks Super Bowl for the ruin of a pretty good game.

Wow...comparing the magnificent art of the Church to a gunmetal, solar burst on a silicone enhanced breast is a true stretch. The art you posted is a celebration of the joy of creation; of man's place in Heaven and on earth...Miz Jackson's was just going for the shock factor. Would anybody be talking about her and Timberlake's, eh, performances, without the 'controversy?' And wasn't CBS promoting the Grammy's (or maybe they will just call them the 'Mammy's (for the, no doubt, prominent display of mammary glands...gotta top Janet!) where Miz Jackson will appear again? And have to ask, will we be subjected to another tiny voiced Jackson denial...Michael's, LaToya's, now Janet...'oh but I didn't know Mr. Timberlake would reach over and assault me...oh we were raised so strictly as Jehovah's Witnesses...ohhh.' PUHLEASE!!!!!!!!!

As I pointed out---and thanks for underscoring my point---you have been mischaracterizing the posts here.

MTV and CBS should SUE these two. Janet and Justin won't be able to survive their legal fees defending this one. yes..another jackson family courtroom drama. the world can hardly wait. *rolls eyes*
seriously though...let's just take the huge leap here and assume that poor lil' justin is telling the truth. the wardrobe malfunctioned. (i do know it's often been a worry of mine when i'm wearing my velcro-cup bra and my leather velcro bustier...lol) even without the boob exposure, this show was completely inappropriate. i guess all the grinding up against each other was "dancing"? i'd hate to chaperon a high school dance where the kids were doing that on the dancefloor! and the lyrics to the last line of the song were "i'll have you naked by the end of this song" (or something). um, yeah. i definitely see the connection with a football game.
know what i'd like to see at halftime? how about pre-taped interviews with some of the players who will be playing in the all-star game? or, i dunno...fifteen more minutes of commercials. i really don't care. but i certainly don't want to see another 'half-time extravaganza'.
no thanks.

Yes, I pity you.
And again you twist the meaning of words and present a false argument.

From your profile, Porterville:
You have gone almost all the way yourself. Life is a continuing process, a flow, not a succesion of acts and events at all. It has flowed to a new level, carrying you with it, without any effort on your part. On this new level you live, you have been living more comfortably everyday, with new morals, new principles. You have accepted things you would not have accepted five years ago, a year ago, things that your father, even in Germany could not have imagined."
Not bad, till I read your post, above.

This same-sex kissing has gotten out of hand. On Saturday, I flipped to SNL, and I immediately see two guys kissing. I then quickly changed the channels to "Mad TV" and, believe it or not, two other guys again were kissing. I guess I have no one to blame but myself for turning on the tv in the first place.

Janet's breasts are as real as her brother's protestations of innocence...

The odd thing is Janet Jackson and others like her do not have to do this kind of thing. I suppose they think following Madonna's shock theory is good enough for them too.
To: alisasny
Yes, many have posted about the flag as well. I don't see any apologies for that. The issue is: which was the most disgusting - the gross commercials, the flag misused, the crotch grabbing, the hag undressed? I think they are all part of the same syndrome - trying to shock us so everyone watches for the next assault on good taste.

Do you watch porn flicks with your Mom and Dad?
I mean what is it with you guys. You can get all the touch myself, expose myself, desecrate the flag itself crap 24 hours a day on MTV. Why does it need to be shown at halftime of the Supper Bowl while I'm watching the game with my family?
To: Porterville
Are you pretending to be stupid, or are you just "that way"?

even suggesting they buy the "it was an accident" excuse. Liars. J had it on her website that she was planning something outrageous!

Well you know, one man's murder is another man's justice, where one man's nude is another man's strident fervor.
