NEW YORK - CBS apologized for an unexpectedly R-rated end to its Super Bowl halftime show, when singer Justin Timberlake (news) tore off part of Janet Jackson (news)'s top, exposing her breast.
The two singers were performing a flirtatious duet to end the halftime show, and at the song's finish, Timberlake reached across Jackson's leather gladiator outfit and pulled off the covering to her right breast.
The network quickly cut away from the shot, and did not mention the incident on the air.
Timberlake said he did not intend to expose Jackson's breast.
"I am sorry that anyone was offended by the wardrobe malfunction during the halftime performance of the Super Bowl," Timberlake said in a statement. "It was not intentional and is regrettable."
Wade said CBS officials attended rehearsals of the halftime show all week, "and there was no indication any such thing would happen. The moment did not conform to CBS' broadcast standards and we would like to apologize to anyone who was offended."
The Super Bowl halftime show, which also featured P. Diddy, Nelly and Kid Rock, was produced by MTV, CBS' corporate cousin in Viacom.
"We were extremely disappointed by elements of the MTV-produced halftime show," Joe Browne, NFL executive vice president, said. "They were totally inconsistent with assurances our office was given about the content of the show.
"It's unlikely that MTV will produce another Super Bowl halftime."
MTV issued a contrite statement, saying the incident was "unrehearsed, unplanned, completely unintentional."

Yea, right MTV... why anyone gives these miscreants an ounce of Broadcast airtime is beyond me... the FCC should be fining CBS BIG TIME for this crap... the FCC has been completely impotent in its charter and its time that someone did something about it.

We'll see who's right.

And if the nipple is pierced, all the better. Gather the family round to watch while a couple sing a raunchy song and he exposes her....It's all just so natural. Right?
Yep. You'll see that humans have pierced, stained, stretched and decorated their bodies to make them more attractive in accordance with particular cultere, homo sapien first became, well, sapient.
What we are seeing now is a rather recent evolution in man into a new species of homo homolis, which exhibits an irrational fear of the female mammae, and as a result, soon becomes extinct - their fossil remains to be found in all the best San Fran bath houses.
If it's okay to show boobs in God's house,
Then it's okay to see them anywhere.

I recall all those "free speech" and "censorship" cries way back when...I recall the outrage over the Dung Madonna, and the Mapplethorpe exhibits...I recall the flap over MTV years ago...
Now what do we have?
We have people saying it's a choice between the coarse half-time show on broadcast TV and Lawrence Welk...
That's just so much BS. Liberalism has degraded America in so many ways for so many years. I think it goes back to Betty Friedan--at least, that's the first I remember. Any good ideas liberals might ever have had have only contributed to decay.

Unfortunately, at this rate the Super Bowl XLV halftime show will feature cheerleaders performing live sex acts with that cute little Budweiser donkey.LOL! You should be a TV programmer...
But seriously folks, your point is well taken. The law of unintended consequences strikes again: cable TV has lead to a leap in baseness for broadcast TV.

All this fussing is ridiculous. CBS knew what they were doing when they signed MTV to do the halftime show. And people who watched it should never watch a CBS halftime show again and should avoid MTV and their supporters completely. The solution is economic.

Moral equivalence of sacred art and the Janet Jackson display?
Sorry, I'm not buying it. For one thing, there wasn't any religious message to Janet Jackson.

I pity you.
Either you truly don't see the difference, or you're promoting sleaze for the sake of it, and denigrating what is truly good and wholesome in the process.
You have problems.

"If anyone was offended by this, don't EVER watch Wild On! Goodness!"
I was offended. There were little kids watching. If See BS is going to broadcast some 40-something broad's mammary into my living room, I want a parental discretion warning.
Home Box Office is one thing. Network TV is a whole different kettle of fish.

Naked Bodies!! Oh my God!!! My eyes!!! I going straight to hell now!!! NOoooooooo.... bad, naked....genitalia.... Holly cow!!! I'm just gonna die...
By the way, did you see the infared movie where the helicopter gunned down those three Iraqis; wasn't it cool, I just love seeing people getting killed and having their life snuffed out....
But breast!!! Oh my God, any representation of life or even a hint of female sexuality offends me to the point of righteous indignation.... I just loveeeee being indignant. It is the new American pass time since baseball is no longer fun to watch.

The singer Lil' Kim wore a gown with one breast exposed at an MTV awards show. Does anyone have a picture of this?

I pity you, too.
You are either being willfully obtuse or obfuscating the issue for your own reasons.
To: pseudo-ignatius
Well, at least Janet proved once and for all that, contrary to popular belief, she is not Michael...

That was the worst half-time show in the history of football. As far as JJ's breast goes, at least I went back for a second look.

And maybe when you're done mischaracterizing the posts here, you can pause and contemplate why everybody involved in presenting this trash has decided to lie about the event.
You will be forced to acknowledge it was a deviation from societal norms, and the lying is an outright assault.
To: ItsOurTimeNow
Well, at least yesterday Bravo was not airing those shows. Instead, they had a "Gay Weddings" marathon. I kid you not. So, it could have been worse for the kids. Then again, it could have been much, much better -for all- in both networks.

You pity me?? I have been in many situations where breast were abound and sex wasn't on the tip of my mind. It is common in almost every country that the breast is not regarded as evil. I pity anyone who would fear going to a nation or it's beaches because of naked breast.

These singers are crude, rude and have no class. How many more times are we going to be subjected to sexual high jinx that are so stupid.
Remember Brittney on 4th of July when she all but did the dirty and almost forgot to mention Happy 4th at the end. Remember Madonna and Brittney kissing. It's not shocking and it's not attractive. It's just plain dumb and unclassy.

What did he expect to reveal?
We'll considering it was a Jackson, perhaps three boobs.

I wonder how many parents know their kids are watching this unclassy stuff?
