HOUSTON, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The tearing of Janet Jackson's costume was unrehearsed, unplanned, completely unintentional and was inconsistent with assurances we had about the content of the performance.
MTV regrets this incident occurred and we apologize to anyone who was offended by it.

I realized Janet was an aging pop diva while watching her dated dance moves....her saggy booby just reaffirmed this.

The station that aired the halftime show and the station whose executives gave the nod to go forward with the unrehearsed plan was CBS.You are correct. Drudge said the decision to do what they did went all the way up to the top at CBS.
I wonder how many lawsuits they will be facing such as not warning parents this was not for children. I don't believe suing at the drop of a hat, but something should be done in this case so that it will never happen again.

That's why the outfit was specially made with a tear-away section and Janet just happen to have a pastie underneath. Completely 'unplanned'. And why she and Justin did not act shocked and attempt to immediately cover the exposure.

And now we are about to be exposed by NASCAR to a bunch of boobs every race. Daryl Waltrip and Larry McRenolds come to mind immediately.

Crotch grabbing. Lyrics such as "I want to touch your body, take your clothes off", and multiple drug references. Dancers wearing lingerie and jockstraps. Forget about the boob. This "show" was an in-your-face disgrace from start to finish. Welcome to the world of MTV. Children and teens watch this stuff for hours each and every day with no parental intervention.

I thought the halftime was the most embarrassing piece of garbage I've ever seen, and I was unaware that breast thing even happened until this morning.
The thing that gets me is how damn FAKE everything MTV does is. They have the taped performance, their paid rent-a-crowd to act wild before the carefully angled cameras, and the dubbed-in fake cheers. If you look at the real fans in the stands, they're standing there bored with their arms folded, thinking "this sucks" like the rest of us.
After this spectacle, I truly wish to apologize to the rest of the world for such shameful behavior of a certain segment of our society, namely the HOLLYWOOD SLEAZE MERCHANTS. The vast majority of America hates this crap as much as you do. The French are absolutely right in restricting the amount of American entertainment into their culture. We do it in our household.
And one more thing.... will someone with cojones do a payola investigation into why only Aerosmith, Bon Jovi or the Jackson family are ever allowed on these MTV productions? Serious crookedness going on here for years. I know of no fans of these people, why are they always front and center on my TV?

I'm beginning to suspect that even Freepers are not immune to the "let's go see what we can go find to be offended about" neurosis... I was working at the hospital, and virtually every room had the superbowl on, either for the patients, or the visitors. It WAS offensive. Ordinary, everyday, non-FReeper people WERE embarrassed and angry.

It is always easier to apologize afterwards than get permission beforehand.

That's why the outfit was specially made with a tear-away section and Janet just happen to have a pastie underneath. Completely 'unplanned'. Upon reading about this and knowing MTV's reputation and seeing the rapid societal decay I initially believed that this was intentional. However, after seeing an HDTV screen capture and viewing a video clip I'm not so absolutely sure.
The existence of the pastie was damning. But, in fact, it wasn't a pastie. It was a sunburst shaped piece of jewelry attached to Janet's nipple through a nipple pierce. Most of her nipple was exposed. See the hi-res pic.
Also, her reaction looked genuine - like something went wrong. And I know she's a tramp, and I think she's fully capable of a stunt like this. But, even to my jaded eye, her reaction looked genuine.
These observations certainly don't conclusively prove innocence, especially given some of the other evidence that this was pre-meditated, they're just some thing I noticed.

Why be shocked? They were giving Americans what they want. That is the state of our culture today. We've come a long way since Mozart. (sarcasm)

As soon as the first half ended, my wife and I changed channels to FNC and caught up on the news. Thirty minutes later, we turned the game back on. Half way through the third quarter, we turned off the tube and went to sleep. I had a similar experience, picking up the game in the second quarter at 0-0, turning off the halftime show to watch U of Minnesota college wrestling on Fox Sports, and viewing 'til the end of the third quarter. As someone who's up at 3:30 a.m., I wish the network would start the game earlier, but I realize I'm in a pretty tiny minority of viewers.

Don't these two statements contradict each other? CBS says We attended all rehearsals and there was no indication anything like this would happen - MTV says they attended all rehersals. So did anyone ever see Janet and Justin rehearse this act?
(And that ain't no pasty or nipple ring - it looks like a "Japanese throwing star".....O U C H !
STATEMENTS BY CBS AND MTV:
MTV: The tearing of Janet Jackson's costume was unrehearsed, unplanned, completely unintentional and was inconsistent with assurances we had about the content of the performance.
CBS: deeply regrets the incident that occured during the Super Bowl halftime show. We attended all rehearsals throughout the week and there was no indication that any such thing would happen. The moment did not conform to CBS broadcast standards and we would like to apologize to anyone who was offended.

LOL, I just read a review of an old movie. At the bottom of the essay, the author had said that Blockbuster was an extreme right wing organization and that we should all boycott it for that reason.

Kid Rock went to Iraq for the troops, he supported Bush on going to Iraq, told the press that entertainers that bash the president are dumb and he is a patriot. Not too many other people told their fellow entertainers to stuff it last spring when Bush bashing went to a whole new level.

metallic nipple ring. Well, then that proves it wasn't make-up or costume.....she is known to be freaky and has numerous pierced body parts. Including nipples.

Absolutely. I'm afraid "The Boob" is going to overshadow the rest of the program, and ultimately be presented as an aberration to an otherwise inoffensive program. The show was a half-hour long assault on the American public. Wake up people. A song with lyrics including "I'm going to get you naked by the end of this song" is appropriate, inoffensive family entertainment!!?
