It's just a breast. Good grief. What a bunch of whining bottle-feeders.
<<
How inaccurate. It's not just a "bare breast" with no context. It's put in context of a writhing pelvic-grinding simulated-sex display in a song where the lyrics say "I'm gonna have you naked by the end of this song" , the dweeb rips off her clothing to expose "just a breast" to shock and sexually excite unsuspecting children in prime time.
It's more than "just a breast."
But then you have to have a sense of decency to recognize that.

Your right Marysecretary, I want to be able to watch a football game without those pervert quarterbacks putting their hands all over the center's butt. There's just no place for that kind of trashy pervert behavior at the Super Bowl. As far as Janet Jackson is concerned, I have no problem with that.
Can anyone tell me why they would be offended by seeing Janet Jackson's breast. Women see breasts all the time (their own), most men see breasts regularly (or at least try to). The first thing most children see after birth is their mother's breast. I just can't see how anyone could be offended by seeing a pretty girl's breast (except maybe some jealous fat women).
I'm astounded at the level of stupidity reflected in the posts on this site. TV is a reflection of our society, if you don't like it, turn the TV off and read a book.
Janet Jackson revieling her breast doesn't justify terrorists attacking us. It is not someone trying to impose their values on anyone. My guess is that either Janet or Justin Timberlake, or both, wanted publicity, and they got it, thanks to all of you. If you really wanted to discourage this action you should ignore it. That would send a message to Janet/Justing/MTV that this behavior won't get them the publicity they seek.

I noticed a lot of people are saying it was a "tassle" or pastey. Thanks to the Drudge close up it looked like what a girlfriend of mine had years ago, but hers was a butterfly and not a star, and hers was actually a disk-like decoration that had a hole in it and a piercing held the butterfly onto the nipple through the hole. Wierd I know, but she liked it. But she out grew the piercing after a few months. Then we outgrew each other... but thats another story all together.

Actually, Drudge is saying they've already dedide not to allow MTV to do it next year. CBS is also considering disinviting Justin Timberlake from the Grammys. (Yah... blame him!)
To: SerpentDove
But then you have to have a sense of decency to recognize that. Unlike the rest of the avid football fans having hissy-fits here, I do have a sense of decency. I don't let my children watch insanely overpaid gladiators in football uniforms being rewarded beyond the dreams of ancient kings for bashing each other's brains out while pre-pubescent half-naked girls intentionally jiggle their breasts at them in appreciation. Unlike what was going on on the field which was men trying to impose their will by force on other men, what happened on stage was not battery, it was not a man forcing himself on a woman--it was playful and co-operative.

The Republic has not been well-served by our puritan attitudes toward healthy, co-operative sexual expression.
People tuned in to watch football, not some sex education on what's good for the Republic. Take the trash to MTV where it belongs and fire the NFL commisioner for being such a moron as to allow football to be tainted with such crap. If you want to watch two people express their sexual attitudes for each other, go buy some porn, but don't bring shove this trash down everyone's throat.
I think the current laws we have will agree with that too.

People who tune in expect half-time entertainment from big MTV stars who bear well-known reputations for racy songs and gyrations, because that's what has gone on before, and that is what was heavily advertised and promoted.
I think the current laws we have will agree with that too.
You mean other than the 1st amendment, I assume.

To you:
Football = bad
Janet flopping her booby out to sexually excite children = okay
Everyone who has a problem with it = bad
As I said before, thanks for sharing your twisted priorites.

Exactly. That why they should FIRE the NFL Commissioner. WE DON"T WANT THAT CRAP AT HALFTIME. comprende? You mean other than the 1st amendment, I assume
I don't know. You tell me. Does this country have decency laws? I thought it did.

I think you're missing the point of some folks distaste with what happened. They tuned in to see a FOOTBALL GAME, not a burlesque show. Is it not too much to ask for people to be able to share a major sporting event with their family without having their sensibilities offended without warning? I don't care if they match my sensibilities or not, there's a time and place for everything and this wasn't it.
I don't know whether the incident was planned as it happened or not. I can read Jason's and Janet's actions and reactions differently from video and stills depending on how I look at it. But I'll tell you this...I have a fair degree of experience with stage costumes and these things can happen during live shows. That's why you rehearse them to death, something they admit they didn't do. It is not out of the realm of the possible from the design of the costume that Jason grabbed "one layer too deep" before he yanked. But that isn't the point. The move should NEVER have been tried in the first place in that environment and under that degree of time pressure. If they didn't intend it they were asking for it.
Whether it makes sense for adults to be bugged by this is irrelevant. It was wholly inappropriate for family entertainment. especially during a football game. How would you feel if you were entertaining a bunch of kids with a hockey game and all of the sudden Celine Dion tears her top off at the end of the anthem (shudder!) and flashes the crowd. Don Cherry would have a bird. It's the same thing really.
Actually, and perhaps more to the point, I thought the whole halftime show was a mess. Why should we have to be subjected to a bunch of talentless gangsta wannabees grabbing their crotches during the Super Bowl? Why can't they fill the time with something a bit more relevant like, say, football commentary? The reactions you're seeing are from folks who watch this crap seep into every bit of life where we're supposed to be able to get away from it and if someone's offended, too bad. As if these entertainment yobs have anything to teach society about what is and isn't acceptable.
I was watching a football game and got treated to a sleaze show. Offended? Not particularly, but put off, you bet.
By the way, lest you think I'm posting from a "prudish jurisdiction," I'm right up the QEW in TO. Have a good one, eh!, and welcome.

Let me "flesh it out" some more. Fine. When will you start?
Football = bad
I did not say football was bad, though I think I could mount such an argument. I said, and justifed, that it is way kinkier, and unhealthier for the young to see, than what JJ and Timberlake did, and I justified it with evidence you know perfectly well is true. The only difference being that, because it's a long-standing accepted norm, you don't bother to think about it.
Everyone who has a problem with it = bad
Let's be a little more specific. Not "bad" but definitely braindead and bottlefed. The only even half-"argument" your side presents here can be summarized as "me no like!". Congratulations on summarizing this argument yet again.

what was going on on the field which was men trying to impose their will by force on other men What kind of whacked out homoerotic stuff are you into, man? Men "imposing their will by force on other men". What? You obviously were cut from the football team, or never made it out of the lockeroom. So, since no intelligent life form can make any sense out of the first part of your rant, I will address the last part (and the part that has anything to do with this thread)
what happened on stage was not battery, it was not a man forcing himself on a woman--it was playful and co-operative.
You're right, it wasn't battery and it may have been choreographed to be "playful and cooperative", but it doesn't make it ok.
You left out the more important descriptor of this "playful and cooperative routine", that it was simply in poor taste.
It has been said upteen, thousand times on this thread, on radio, and even people who aren't considered "prudes" that this was simply not the venue for this type of display.
The Super Bowl is a family event broadcast over public airwaves. And while this "playful" routine may not be shocking (and perhaps even the norm) at the MTV Music Awards, it is an entirely different circumstance.
So, while I don't have any problem with breasts (in fact I have a profound admiration for them), I do have a problem with my young children seeing this type of behavior during what I consider a family program.
And before you reply with some rant about religious fundamentalism (or some other homoerotic suggestion), I will repeat a simple statement from earlier in this thread:
Good taste isn't tied to one's religious beliefs.
