Jindal to Seek House Seat Being Vacated by Senatorial Candidate David Vitter

This afternoon, my wife and I stood outside her high school alma mater and announced that I am running for Congress in Louisiana’s 1st Congressional District.

This is an important race, and I need your help to be successful. But before I ask for your support, I want to share with you the reasons why I decided to run for Congress.

After coming so close in the gubernatorial election, my wife and I had several months to think about the future of our great state, and reflect on the “Bold New Vision” we discussed during that campaign. And those ideas…

…Creating economic opportunity so our kids can stay in Louisiana, improving our children’s academic achievement, increasing the quality, affordability, and accessibility of healthcare, defending the role of faith and values in our state…

…those ideas still motivate me.

My wife and I talked about our options, and we decided that the only place we want to call home is Louisiana. We made a pledge to do our part to make Louisiana a place where our children will want to stay and raise their own families.

That’s when Congressman Vitter and others in the District began encouraging me to consider the difference I could make by serving the people of Louisiana in Congress.

You may remember that I have already spent some time in Washington, DC. Senator John Breaux, although not of my political party, asked me to join him in Washington, D. C. in 1998 to serve as executive director of the National Bipartisan Commission on the Future of Medicare. In March of 2001, President Bush nominated me to be Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Working for Senator John Breaux and President George W. Bush was both exciting and rewarding. And, I think the relationships I developed within the Administration and the experience I gained while in Washington will enable me to have a great impact for the First District on my first day of service.

The First District is the natural home for my congressional bid. In addition to my family roots, I developed many wonderful friendships throughout the district during my gubernatorial race, and was thrilled with the support we received on Election Day, winning nearly 70% of the vote.

This Congressional race is an opportunity for you and me to serve our great state together and continue the “Bold New Vision” of a better Louisiana. So I ask you, please join with me in this effort.

Winning this campaign will require more than the right message. It will take grassroots organization and financial resources.

Will you join me as a charter member of my campaign team with a $4000, $2000, $1000, $500 or $100 donation?

Buying television commercials in the New Orleans market is extremely expensive. The campaign will also need to order yard signs, print brochures, and organize our grassroots.

Your support is critical.

Please use the website to make a secure online contribution today. Together we will succeed and will make a difference for our state and nation.

Sincerely, Bobby Jindal
