Presidential Candidate Michael Peroutka's Statement about Immigration Issues

Dear Friends,

The Republican Party Platform that George Bush ran on called for a total overhaul of our immigration system and criticized the Clinton Administration for lax enforcement of our immigration laws. But, President Bush's recently announced so-called immigration reform does nothing to secure our borders. In fact, his suggested plan makes things worse --- a lot worse and a lot more dangerous.

President Bush says his proposed program will offer legal status as temporary workers to the millions of illegal aliens now imployed in our country who are breaking the law! This makes no sense at all. None.

Representative Tom Tancredo, a Republican from Colorado who is chairman of the 68-member House Immigration Caucus, has it right when he says this Bush proposal is dangerous because it offers additional incentives and rewards for illegal aliens while it gives only lip service to what is really important: border security. Tancredo points out that of the 37,000 non-Mexicans who illegally crossed our borders in 2002, more than 75,00 were from countries that are known to harbor terrorists. And, he notes, President Bush and his advisors are ignoring the fact that there was another amnesty program in 1986 which was a failure and only encouraged more illegal immigration.

Regardless of what President Bush says, his new program is a blanket amnesty for the 8 to 10 million illegal aliens who have broken into our country. It is, as Pat Buchanan says, a massive reward for law-breaking. It is a refusal to execute the laws of the United States --- which he pledged to do when he swore, as President, to uphold our Constitution. And it is a blatant act of political pandering in an attempt to get the votes of Hispanics.

President Bush says our country needs an immigration system that, in his words, "serves the American economy and reflects the American dream." This is true. But his new plan does neither. It does not benefit American workers to have illegal aliens taking jobs at lower wages, for which many of our people will not work. And it is more of a nightmare than a dream to advocate a plan that makes it legal for potential terrorists to stay in the United States.

As President, one of my top priorities would be to really secure our borders and deport all individuals who are here illegally.

Michael A. Peroutka

While I disagree with tons of Bush's domestic decisions, I see no reason to vote for this guy.

Even if I agree with Mr. Peroutka on 95% of the issues, my vote for him would be about as statistically significant as a vote for myself.

If I decide not to support Bush in 2004, I'm voting for me - the only candidate who is never wrong.

I rock my vote.

Gee, pretty thin stuff - I should run for President!
I have a far more comprehensive answer!

Like Tom Tancredo, I'll be voting for Bush, but working behind the scenes to make sure we get a better immigration policy.

JustPiper has decided to mind a single thread for a while. I, like many of you, are already missing the forwards she provided, saving us from scanning through all those articles. I propose good ol' J.R. send her compensation for handling the Immigration/Borders category she was handling. Just enough to reward her diligent service. As he has some kind of problem with this category (hey Jim, are you being held hostage by a Mexican nurse, trapped in a variation on Stephen King's "Misery"?) I think compensating her would be just and fair. What do you guys think? Let me know before he forces me to resubmit under another name and computer profile.
Jim, don't get hacked off. I believe you should work your way up the California office ladder on your vast support (myself included). It's just way past time to include that category, as it has become the lightning-rod issue of modern politics. America can no longer afford to look away.

If you change your mind and decide yoa are not worthy of a vote --- I'm running! Ask youself, could JackelopeBreeder mess things up any worse than any of the other declared candidates?

(Only if I worked night and day dreaming up insane policies while engaged in full-scale laboratory research into the effects of various illicit hallucinogenic pharmaceuticals. And this from a guy who doesn't trust aspirin...)

Thank you for posting this, EW. Thank you for injecting some sanity into the presidential race, Mr. Peroutka!

Since the Constitution calls for the federal government to "repel borders" from invasion and to provide for the common defense of the United States, armed forces could be moved from non-defensive positions around the world back to the border properties owned by the government or private citizens who provide permission.

Yes, that should be an option. Is that Peroutka`s position?

Look, I went down that road of looking into a 3rd Party as a viable alternative. I do think it is possible for one to emerge sometime soon, but it will not happen this year, that is for sure.

I agree with others that have posted that the Constitution Party is putting its priorities in the wrong place. The money being spent on a presidential run could be better spent at the local or state level. You don`t climb the mountain by jumping to the top. It is a long trek, uphill.

I do applaud the some of the efforts of this party. Their platform is solid; But their efforts on a presidential bid are misplaced. If they want a quick legit shot at the Whitehouse, they need to adopt a billionaire to fund the campaign. Perot became a force when he did because he had loads of cash and had a good message. The Constitution Party has a good message but no truckloads of cash. Which means they are dead weight on the national stage. That is just how it is. The media will pretty much ignore any Constitution Party Pres. candidate, unless they are some celebrity, or a billionaire. It seems the only press they get now is when the bash President Bush, and that will not help their cause. It drove me away, that is for sure.

It is sad that it takes huge amounts of cash to run for President in this country, but it is also reality.

I feel the key right now to fixing the mess we are in on immigration is by sending good people to congress who will fight to control our borders. We have about 23 or so right now, lets work on getting more there.

....but, let's continue to increase the funding for cow dung and urine art.

Peroutka wants to stop this nonsense.

Here is more from his website:

A vote for Michael Peroutka is a vote for honest and efficient government because it is a vote for Constitutional government....

According to the U.S. Constitution, most current Federal spending is not permissible.

America can no longer afford to look away.

I think this is also true regarding the freedom of speech (as in Campaign Finance "Reform" regulation in advertising, and for deficit spending.
