MSNBC Analyst Ron Reagan Jr. Accuses Bush of “Dementia”
Media Research Center ^ | 1-29-04 | Medial Reseach Center

Ron Reagan Jr., on MSNBC Tuesday night, sure dispelled the notion of anyone who assumed that he is any kind of conservative of friend of a Republican President. Just past 11pm EST, Reagan, whose father suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, suggested that President George W. Bush has “dementia.” Reagan, whom MSNBC brought aboard to stand in front of a national map in order to discuss upcoming primaries, commented about how David Kay concluded that “Iraq never had weapons of mass destruction.” Reagan then sarcastically asked: “What does George W. Bush say? ‘Well, I still think they had them.’ That’s not just spin. That’s dementia, you know.”

Reagan, a veteran of Fox News in its pre-FNC days, stood in front of the map, with a fire going in a fire place behind him, and commented a couple of times an hour about where the Democratic candidates may next battle it out. Just past 11pm EST, he opined on another topic: “You were talking about who’s the best person to beat Bush. And one thing that you might want to consider is that politics is a contact sport. And if you ask any NFL player, they’ll tell you it takes weeks to get used to the contact. So all these guys are out there, and they’re getting tough. They’re taking shots, and they’re getting back up again. George W. Bush, on the other hand, is sitting in the Oval Office and he’s getting soft. Now, what happens when you go in the Oval Office is you start living in a bubble, you know, you don’t read the paper anymore, you just listen to who you want to listen to. And we’re seeing that now. David Kay, for instance, comes out with a report and says Iraq never had weapons of mass destruction. What does George W. Bush say? ‘Well, I still think they had them.’ That’s not just spin. That’s dementia, you know. So I don’t get this. I’m a little angry about this. Forgive me. It looks like my pants are on fire, by the way, I’m so angry here, but it’s not true. It’s just an optical illusion for those of you who might be concerned or perhaps hopeful.”

Reagan, whose father suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, suggested that President George W. Bush has “dementia.”

Using his father's illness to trash a Republican Reagan would be proud of. Shameful.

And using the his eulogy to his Father as a thinly disguised swipe at Bush was as you say "shameful".

I knew he was a liberal , as is his sister Patty. His obvious slam on President Bush tonight in California was no accident.

I'm making an assumption here, but I'm sure that you'll be pleased to know that little ronnie is not a jr.

I, for damned sure, knew he was no chip off the old block. IMO, he made a total ass of himself with his quirky demeanor, assumed voice & over the top ''performance'' at the services in CA this evening. Guess he mistook a funeral for the Improv.

Yes, but as this thread is updated, I wish George H.W. Bush had delivered the final eulogy tonight...even Laura was cringing. Heartfelt, but poorly delivered. Dad really touched me, though.

Ronnie Reagan is a HUGE LIBERAL and cannot stand Bush, even took a slap at Bush in his Funeral Speech in California.

He's not like Michael Reagan.

Ron, Reagan's son is a true hole. A child still in his mind.
A very disappointing person in every way.

Laura was cringing? Not on the version I taped off FOX.

I just watched the tape and was thinking that GHW Bush's speech was not well written or rehearsed or he was too upset to do well while both Dubya's speech and delivery were much more polished - thus passes the torch.

Laura was cringing? Not on the version I taped off FOX.

Nor on the version that I watched twice. I thought Dubya did a fantastic job, as did one of the commentators who compared this speech favorably to the his post 9/11 speech, which was magnificent.

"And we’re seeing that now. David Kay, for instance, comes out with a report and says Iraq never had weapons of mass destruction".

This is the PAP you 'learn' and evidently 'believe', when you READ papers like the NYT.

Here's the upcoming SPIN about the IRAQ WAR!

Ronald Reagan would NEVER have agreed to launch a pre-emptive attack on ANY nation. Some even believe that the WHOLE family--LESS Michael Reagan--will come out against the war in IRAQ.

From the World Tribune yesterday:

UN inspectors: Saddam shipped out WMD before war and after

SPECIAL TO WORLD TRIBUNE.COM
Friday, June 11, 2004
The United Nations has determined that Saddam Hussein shipped weapons of mass destruction components as well as medium-range ballistic missiles before, during and after the U.S.-led war against Iraq in 2003.

The UN Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission briefed the Security Council on new findings that could help trace the whereabouts of Saddam's missile and WMD program.

The briefing contained satellite photographs that demonstrated the speed with which Saddam dismantled his missile and WMD sites before and during the war. Council members were shown photographs of a ballistic missile site outside Baghdad in May 2003, and then saw a satellite image of the same location in February 2004, in which facilities had disappeared.

UNMOVIC acting executive chairman Demetrius Perricos told the council on June 9 that "the only controls at the borders are for the weight of the scrap metal, and to check whether there are any explosive or radioactive materials within the scrap," Middle East Newsline reported.
"It's being exported," Perricos said after the briefing. "It's being traded out. And there is a large variety of scrap metal from very new to very old, and slowly, it seems the country is depleted of metal."

"The removal of these materials from Iraq raises concerns with regard to proliferation risks," Perricos told the council. Perricos also reported that inspectors found Iraqi WMD and missile components shipped abroad that still contained UN inspection tags.

He said the Iraqi facilities were dismantled and sent both to Europe and around the Middle East. at the rate of about 1,000 tons of metal a month. Destinations included Jordan, the Netherlands and Turkey.

The Baghdad missile site contained a range of WMD and dual-use components, UN officials said. They included missile components, reactor vessel and fermenters – the latter required for the production of chemical and biological warheads.
"It raises the question of what happened to the dual-use equipment, where is it now and what is it being used for," Ewen Buchanan, Perricos's spokesman, said. "You can make all kinds of pharmaceutical and medicinal products with a fermenter. You can also use it to breed anthrax."

The UNMOVIC report said Iraqi missiles were dismantled and exported to such countries as Jordan, the Netherlands and Turkey. In the Dutch city of Rotterdam, an SA-2 surface-to-air missile, one of at least 12, was discovered in a junk yard, replete with UN tags. In Jordan, UN inspectors found 20 SA-2 engines as well as components for solid-fuel for missiles.

"The problem for us is that we don't know what may have passed through these yards and other yards elsewhere," Buchanan said. "We can't really assess the significance and don't know the full extent of activity that could be going on there or with others of Iraq's neighbors."

UN inspectors have assessed that the SA-2 and the short-range Al Samoud surface-to-surface missile were shipped abroad by agents of the Saddam regime. Buchanan said UNMOVIC plans to inspect other sites, including in Turkey.

In April, International Atomic Energy Agency director-general Mohammed El Baradei said material from Iraqi nuclear facilities were being smuggled out of the country.

Interesting perspective to bring this article up, given his (vague?) comments about religion in his eulogy last night.

His 9/20 speech to both houses of Congress, SCOTUS etc. was the best speech I have ever heard. Gettysburg Address and others are greater as literature but that I have heard in my lifetime as far as appropriate, delivery etc. it was the one on 9/20.

I'm glad someone remembered this. IMO, his comment about living in a bubble in the Oval Office is an insult to both GWB and his father.

Reagan is not only a liar but he's incredibly stupid.

He must think we were born yesterday and don't remember the pictures of entire Iraqi towns gassed by Saddam's WMDs, the UN, Clinton, Gore, Kerry, the intelligence agencies of France, Germany, Russia, the UK ALL saying SADDAM had WMDs.

Yet he claims Bush made it up. UNreal.
