[history]
As she did the Sunday before the Iowa caucuses, Judy Dean stood by her husband's side yesterday, smiling raptly and at times offering a look of delighted astonishment, as when a crowd of supporters at a campaign office here let out a series of frenzied whoops.

I say good for this woman.
I'm not interested in electing Laura Bush, Pat Nixon, Lady Bird Johnson etc.
It's just one more reason to have enmity toward Hillary as she made the spousal role so much more prominent.

Howard Dean was courting the women's vote at a Women for Dean rally yesterday in Hooksett, N.H., with the help of C-Span cameras carrying the action live. But it turned ugly after the rally when he ordered his aides to remove his politically shy wife, Judith Steinberg Dean.
"Get her out," he shouted. "Get her out. Get her out."

C-Span Shows Hopefuls in All Their Unedited Glory
By LYNETTE CLEMETSON

MIAMI BEACH, Jan. 25 Howard Dean was all smiles at a Women for Dean rally on Sunday in Hooksett, N.H., as he stood in front of a crowded room with Judith Steinberg Dean, his politically reluctant spouse who has made few campaign appearances. The couple exchanged loving glances as she read her introduction of him from a laptop computer.
But after the event, Dr. Dean's tone changed, as he said discreetly but audibly: "Get her out. Get her out. Get her out."
It could be that Dr. Dean was trying to shield his wife from the crush of supporters. But perhaps he forgot that while most of his supporters, as well as reporters, were out of earshot, C-Span was broadcasting the event live.

That's a pretty cheap shot, IMO.
She has been the object of a number of nasty remarks here at FR which are really in poor taste. Yours is not nasty but we ought to remember that while we all take our politics seriously and are not reluctant to speak out, not all people are that way.
She certainly deserves the benefit of the doubt.

I don't see any signs of her desire to be around him. I suspect there is a good reason for that. I bet he's a real icehole.

Cool out. AppyPappy has a point and his comment WAS NOT an ad hominem.
It was a hypothesis of why she is not with him. And she has not been. That is a fact.
Also, I watched her this weekend and she called their child, "my child"
while he was at her side.
Given that, do YOU know what lurks in truth in that relationship?

Unfortunately for Mrs. Dean, whether she likes it or not, should her husband win, her lifestyle is changed forever. Security considerations alone would dictate this.

Actually, I don't think she deserves any such consideration at all. Anyone who goes from "Dr. Judith Steinberg" to "Mrs. Judy Dean" in the space of 48 hours for nothing more than political window-dressing is as much a political target as the moron she's married to.

I watched her this weekend and she called their child, "my child" while he was at her side. You would be surprised how many parents do that. I always tell my spouse, "Your son called".Or,to others, "My kids did this or that". Sorry, but I see nothing wrong with what she said.

Maybe Judy can keep him under control--you know, a tranquilizer dart or something. After all, Dean's not the most dangerous inmate in the Democrat Nuthouse, and at least he seems to have someone to keep his straightjacket handy.

I see her as not wanting to be in the political fishbowl and able to work unimpeded in her profession, which she seems dedicated to.
Seems to me they have a healthy relationship.

do YOU know what lurks in truth in that relationship? Nope. I don't think I really know what goes on between two people, other than my sweetie and me, and to a lesser extent, with closest relatives and friends.
Which is my point.

I liked her, too. She seems sweet, unaffected, and devoted to her patients. It's nice to an ordinary, unpolished speaker in front of the cameras. At the end of the Deans' interview with Chris Matthews, he thanked the couple, and she started to stand up, not realizing the cameras were still on.
However, have you ever voted for anyone because you liked their spouse?
To: TedsGarage
They will be interviewed together on CNN today at 5pm (I think. The Dr. Judy factor appears to be working for the guy who was not going to use his wife as a prop.
