"The case would get awfully complex in that my Ulster Scots Irish ancestors on my father's side expropriated land from indigenous Irish Catholics. Hell...I could wind up OWING money once the accounting was sorted out."

LOL...you'd owe yourself money. Oh, you're a CPA? Well, if you're careful, you could make youre you oew yourself no more reparations than the amount of liquid assets you have.

This brings me to another point: if all black people decended from slaves in this country have white ancestors because they're also descended from slave OWNERS, they are as liable as the government they alledge was complicit in their slave owner ancestors owning their slave ancestors. They owe themselves reparations.

Two thoughts on who to give California back to:

1. The Eastern seaboard states all had claims to land from sea to sea. If we gave California back to them, we'd never be rid of the place!

2. At the time California was "liberated" Mexico had a claim on it and Spain had renounced their claim.

You should be watching Univision this evening anyway ~ our Mexican neighbors are into a phase in their cultural development wherein female bustlines are more obvious than not. Quite entertaining. Uh, who was it you wanted to give back to who? I am distracted by this.

Under what theory of law is " victimhood" an inheritable asset?

Conversely, isn't corruption of blood specifically prohibited under the Constitution? Can the sins of the fathers legally be visited on the sons, even unto the umpteenth generation? And what if the father in fact committed no crime, as is the case with slavery, since it was perfectly legal at the time?

LOL...ok, let's give it to Mexico, since they're slowly taking it back and turning it into a Thrid World country anyway.

Come to think of it I got this thing throwed and roped.

Now if a general legal theory of reparations did concieveably arise out of this debate then I am gonna make out like a bandit. I am 1/32 Native American. Since they owned the whole damn place, joint and haunch even my 1/32 piece divided by 1.8 Million has to be worth a whole pile o'filthy lucre.

Damn...I run into the same problem. Some of my Texas ancestors ( 1/4 part Cherokee) were famed Commanche whackers in Texas. Nah...best to let this one go. I'd still end up paying..

True enough, and you are also prohibited a title of nobility (and those things were almost always hereditary).

Come to think about it, Affirmative Action is really about a title of nobility. That's why all right thinking people in this country view AA as being inherently unjust.

I love Chris Rock's comment that "if they ever get arround to that '40 acres and a mule biz' He wants his forty acres between 7th ave and 128th street on the upper east side of NYC..he will donate the mule back to the government if the gets a tax break for the donation."

The demand for reparations from a segment of the black community illustrates their lack of contact with reality.

They have deluded themselves and their supporters into believing that the America of 2004 will pay reparations. It is a demonstration of their lack of contact with their fellow countrymen. From what I've heard from these people, they talk to themselves and to their supporters and listen to no one who does not agree with them.

They are, of course, free to engage in this fantasy, but it would be kind if someone would tell them to forget this nonsense.
Its doubtful anyone will. The left is too afraid of a poilitcal backlash (not to mention fearful of being called a racist) and the right doesn't care what a group a cranks do with their time.
