Titles
1/25/04

Posted on 01/25/2004 12:02:31 PM PST by Tumbleweed_Connection

Titles to articles are often manipulated with comments before or after. Look over at breaking, front page..., most of the story titles are "decorated".

It's easier to recognize the possible redundancy when comments are added on in the end, but not always. Done up front, it's difficult.

There's nothing wrong with "dressing up" the title, but there are better ways. NRO is one of many URLs which uses a second line to "develop" it's title. Something such as that seems to provide full freedom to all.

I use (...) as often times titles don't tell people enough about the story within. Works fine for me but a second line would be good too.

That example you used was my thread. I added it so people would know who this guy is. If you aren't from Wisconsin, you'd probably have no idea. The redundancy is (barf) when Clinton is in the title.

I don't see what we can change, given that the FR software does not allow for subheads (aka a second line), and only gives you 100 characters in the title field to begin with.

I say stick with the status quo: Post the headline as it is published in the actual article, and where necessary add further explanations in parentheses after the headline.

The only problem is that the admin moderator will (capriciously) delete the additional information in (...) if it offends their agenda.

"The only problem is that the admin moderator will (capriciously) delete the additional information in (...) if it offends their agenda."

Hey, I have no idea what your agenda is, but my current short term goal is to support President Bush for a second term in the White House, thereby keeping the likes of Kerry, Dean, Edwards, Hillary, et al, the hell out. Also, to use Free Republic to help defeat as many God-hating, America-hating, family-hating, UN-loving, gun-grabbing, terrorist-apologist, abortionist-loving Democrats as we possibly can in every other office in the land.

I don't know about you, but I do not relish the idea of President Kerry or Dean or Hillary, et al, surrendering to Iraq or surrendering our national sovereignty to the U.N. I don't like the idea of subjugating America to the U.N., a world court, Kyoto treaties, etc., etc.

I don't like the idea of getting permission from the U.N. to defend ourselves. I don't like the idea of having a world court pardoning criminals on death row, or trying U.S. citizens for hate crimes, etc. And I don't want the U.N. meddling with our Constitution and Bill of Rights. I want the U.N. out of the U.S. and the U.S. out of the U.N.

I also don't relish the idea of the God-hating, family-hating, abortion-loving, homosexualist-loving, environmentalist-loving, globalist-loving, America-hating Democrats appointing and or confirming any more of their liberal activist judges.

If you have a problem with this agenda, then perhaps you are on the wrong web site.

So you'd rather vote for someone who

1) strips away your rights of free speech
2) spends your children into oblivion by creating huge new entitlements while refusing to exercise and financial restraint or veto any spending bills.
3) believes the WOD is an excellent example for government to treat its citizens
4) believes that government is the solution, not the problem
5) detains citizens without cause
6) refuses to provide ACTION to support the 2nd Amendment (talk is cheap)
7) government should be able to sneak into your home, search it, and plant bugs without the benefit of a judicially signed subpoena

and much much more

The lesser of 2 evils is still evil. If you want to vote for evil, go ahead. I'd rather stick to my principles and vote for the good guys.

Under no circumstances will I vote for, support directly or indirectly, or do anything whatsoever that may benefit or give aid or comfort to or assist Dean, Kerry, Edwards, Clark, Hillary, et al, into the White House.

Political commentators have a name for that sort of self-indulgent, self-centered vote which makes one feeeeel goooood but is neither productive nor effective.

Article I, Section 9.
No title of nobility shall be granted by the United States: and no person holding any office of profit or trust under them, shall, without the consent of the Congress, accept of any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state.

Well that's the way it's supposed to work, anyway.
I don't think that I'd change it at all.
But I would like to see it better enforced.

Clarify, if you will...and in the meantime, why don't you drop that tagline? Sheesh....Pat???? Robertson? Bay's little brother?

Yeah, it's called honesty and integrity. Something about which Liberals (Republican and Democrat) and their supporters are unaware.

Bush is a CINO, Liberal Republican.

Seeing that the owner of the forum has stated his short-term goals which are counter to your stated goals of wanting to feeeel gooood, does the CP or CP-USA have anything to say about your freeloaderism?

DRUDGE is another one of those URLs, even a better example. His site links to articles with titles that summarize his impression of the writer's intent.

Many people who post the articles don't read them first, they can't, they post too many.

I also wondered how subsequent readers might create that "second line" v keyword lines (limiting it to one).
