Immigration critics in Tennessee want to draft Rep. Tom Tancredo as a protest candidate in the upcoming Republican presidential primary, but don't expect the Littleton lawmaker to become their volunteer.
"A lot of people think my politics are crazy, but I'm not delusional. I don't think I'm going to be president of the United States," Tancredo said Tuesday, in response to a new committee, "Tennesseans for Tancredo," touting a write-in candidacy on the Internet.
Some immigration critics are so upset about President Bush's proposal to offer legal status to millions of illegal immigrants that they want to field a protest candidate in Republican presidential primaries in Tennessee and elsewhere.
A Web site, www.tennesseansfortancredo.com, cites the need to "make noise, collect signatures, build a grass-roots movement that attracts citizens from all walks of life and all political parties."
With or without Tancredo's approval, they hope critics of Bush's plan will write in Tancredo during state presidential contests.
Tancredo said he supports Bush on most issues besides immigration and could not see himself having much of an effect on Bush's chances.
This week, the representative launched "Team Tancredo," a political action committee to raise money for candidates who oppose amnesty for illegal immigrants.
"Tancredo for President" bumper stickers have been floating around the Internet for more than a year.
"It's a conversation starter," he said. "And the conversation usually starts with, 'Who the hell is Tom Tancredo?' ''

Tancredo acknowledging that he isn't going to be president has nothing to do with Karl Rove.
And no one is likely to defeat Tom in a primary election.

I'm a J.Lo fan (wish I had her body!)
I wouldn't want Tancredo for president. He's a one note. One notes do not make good presidents. Second of all, both my parents are immigrants and he can easily say those things about me. He likes to lump all immigrants together as if we're all coming to steal his food.

Its like this. Most Dems welcome illegals because they think they can pander to the Hispanic Community here and get their votes later when they become legal - or use them illegally now as voters - Democrats can get a vote out of a dead civil war veteran.
Most Repubs who support illegals do so because they are hoping to cash in on the Hispanic vote AND to please rich business interests who want cheap foreign labor.
Tancredo gets hammered by Dems and Repubs on this issue.

It has everything to do with Rove, it proves that Rove and Bush consider him a threat.
Now why would they consider him a threat unless they knew he was going to be backed by the people?
It also proves that the GOP is no better than the Dims when it comes to being willing to destroy one of their own.
It's sickening.

Since the representatives are ignoring the constituents on the issue this write-in campaign seems to be the only way to blast through their accumulated ear wax.
Consider it the worlds largest protest sign.

If your parents were legal immigrants then nothing Tancredo says applies to them or you.
If, however, they came here illegally then it absolutely applies.

Ahem:
And while he appeared to relish in the thought of a presidential bid, when addressing the crowd later in the evening, Tancredo told the group that his support for President Bush runs much deeper than the immigration issue.
From this article.

I consider it the world's silliest protest sign.
Tom Tancredo deserves support.
He doesn't deserve being made to look foolish by a bunch of people who can't take no for an answer.
To: ZULU
Most Repubs who support illegals do so because they are hoping to cash in on the Hispanic vote AND to please rich business interests who want cheap foreign labor. Thats not why I support Bush. Its recognizing a problem that doesn't have a quick term - "PRACTICAL" - solution. It gets the decent ones registered and paying taxes. It moves the issue forward instead of ignoring it and hoping it'll go away.

Did I not GIVE you a chance to tell us what you meant by the photo? If you meant NOTHING then why pollute a thread with images? You gave me a chance? No you didn't. You asked me what I wanted you to think about the photo...as if you couldn't think for yourself. And you're polluting the thread with your "tell me what I should think" mentality more than my photo ever could.

Why run for president and siphon off votes from Bush? Tancredo is a congressman isn't he? I do not always agree with Bush but he's a leader and sometimes leader do things that people don't agree with. I just am getting more confused with the whole debate because people say illegal immigration, illegal immigrants, illegal aliens, undocumented workers(I hate that one),etc.

Consider it whatever you want, the point is to send Bush a message. He only understands one language these days, votes.
