The quarterback is supposed to do more than throw the ball. He is the leader of the team. Had McNabb come back in the game, only to hand off the ball, it would have given his team a lift, and no one could say he tanked.
McNair would play with a missing arm. McNabb sat it out.

McNair would play with a missing arm. McNabb sat it out. AS a Titans fan, I can tell you that it cuts both ways. Yes, he inspires the fans and his teammates, but there are times when he is so hobbled that having him in there is possibly worse than having the backup in there (this year Volek and O'Donnell). The key is figuring out where that threshold is - and hopefully next year Fisher will find it (or improve the OL)

McNabb came back into the game a few times, he wasn't out completely until the last 5 minutes. Didn't seem to give the team a lift. And when you're down by 11 you need a QB to do more than just hand off the ball.
McNair is psychotic, I love him but he's nuts and isn't a fair comparison to most of the QBs out there.

A leader also understands when his performance is hurting the team as opposed to helping it. I don't know who made the call in this case (Reid or McNabb), but one can hardly fault him if his injury prevented adequate performance on the field.
