[history]
President Bush's recent, lamentable proposals on illegal immigrants highlight, yet again, that both the Republican and Democratic Parties heed neither public opinion nor their primary governing responsibility to defend and protect the United States, as it relates to illegal immigration.

Thus, for different but complementary reasons, neither party is currently disposed to fight hard for a maximum effort to secure our borders from illegal entry. That is because that "maximum" effort would NEVER be acceptable to the nation. Until people are in fear for their lives by crossing the border nothing will stop them from crossing.

I'm beginning to think that Karl Rove is overly influenced by the big donors. The rank and file tend to be pro-life, but many big donors are pro-abort--so Karl Rove supports pro-abort candidates in California and elsewhere. The rank and file are anti-illegal immigrants, but the big donors want cheap labor--so Karl Rove supports illegal immigration.
It's hard to see why else Bush would be doing this. It's not good for the country, and it's not smart politics as far as getting votes is concerned. Maybe it's big money.

..until people are in fear for their lives by crossing the border nothing will stop them from crossing...The only person 'in fear' is President Bush, who's wondering how Vincente got pictures of his old Tijuana partying days. :) Cheers, By

" Time/CNN poll disclosed 80 percent want the federal government to track down illegal aliens;"
And the media usually frames this 80 percent with the evil "conservative" word.

MEChA Today
Some have suggested that MEChA is just another ethnic pride organization and that its Nazi-like founding documents (e.g El Plan Espiritual de Aztlan) are just a historical relic from the 1960s.
Well, no. Browse the multitude of MEChA chapter websites, like the one at UC Berkeley and you will find that many (if not most) claim that the founding documents are "fundamental" to the organization. Berkeley also indicates that it holds "orientations each semester to educate our membership on MEChA philosophy". What is MEChA philosophy? There is this widely posted document titled "Philosophy of MEChA" which states:
Both El Plan de Aztlan (EPA) and El Plan de Santa Barbara (EPSB) served as the historical foundation for the establishment of a viable Chicana/Chicano Movimento and are therefore fundamental to the M.E.Ch.A. Philosophy
The document confirms that this is all still living, breathing stuff:
This document was last changed or amended in whole or in part by a 2/3 vote at the 1999 National M.E.Ch.A. Conference at Phoenix Community College.
Cruz Bustamante, in defending his former participation in the group, said
The students who are in MEChA today are just like the students when I was there
Fair enough, but what are the students in MEChA like today?
I found the personal website of one recent college graduate and MEChA member. He writes poems, such as this one, called I am that Chicano:
(
http://students.seattleu.edu/prendej1/chicanoart.html ):
I fought for the US in Vietnam and I will fight the US for Aztlan
Chicanismo is in my veins, it pumps mi corazon, the corazon of a true Chicano
my soul is puro Raza, my past is of the Mexica
and this Chicanos future is Aztlan!
Aztlan, recall, is what the Mechistas call those parts of the southwestern United States that they plan to "liberate" from the United States.

...I see you are drunk again or is that still?...I beg your pardon?
You...thought I was, serious, with that crack about the President's party pics?
He he he. Silly ol' Tex. Hoo hoo hoo. Just because this President panders to the Mexicans on every single issue that comes down the pipe, it doesn't mean they've got something on him, does it?
Hey, wait a minute.....

I'll just about guarantee that when Bush puts on the full court press for creating registered "guest workers" out of the existing illegals and promising to beef the border patrols substantially that the 80% number will drop below 50%. Though I must agree with Blankely that the cart and the horse seemed to be reversed.

No doubt about that. Karl Rove and President Bush totally missed the boat. They do not seem to understand this is really the one issue (and abortion) that can split the party, and dillute the base from turning out in November. I mean one only has to tune into talk radio a few times a month to realize what people are sick and tired of, and that is footing the bill for illegals.

...could our dear Prez be a racist coward on this issue?...Doubtful, because it certainly doesn't fit his profile. But for some reason, he has got this blind spot, about Mexico. All we can do is kick and scream and hope poll feedback prompts a change of heart.

Don't tell me it ain't courage for Bush to go against the grain of 80% of the American people. It might be foolish (we'll see in November), but it shows courage. He did campaign on a guest worker program, BTW.

...I fought for the US in Vietnam and I will fight the US for Aztlan...Change 'Aztlan' to the name of any other country on the planet, and he'd have the FBI kicking his door in.

it's not smart politics as far as getting votes is concernedThink about what would happen if the Democrat presidential candidate came out for enforcement of the borders. He would have a great chance of winning.

I agree that this is Huge in scope and will damage the party.
Just click on the links on the Home page here at Free Republic (ACU or HUMAN EVENTS) and youll read alot of anger over this "proposal".
Its even a states right issue can of worms opened by the GOP!
