Well, let's turn this around. What are the ten least aggressive dogs - the most docile animals that make the best pets. Anyone? Anyone...?

Definitely number one would be the Golden Retriever

What are the ten least aggressive dogs - the most docile animals that make the best pets. Labs, Retrievers, Rottweilers, Chows and any mix-breed that includes one of them you get from the local pound.

I have a Sheltie that is the cutest, nicest dog. He only weighs a little more than 20 pounds, but he is not a sissy dog, like some people think. We take him backpacking and he can walk for miles, just trotting along. And we take him to the dog park and he goes into the big dog section, even though he's small. Shelties are very smart, too.
He doesn't like water, though, and won't go swimming at our dog beach. Also, he barks at every little noise. But he is so sweet.

I've seen a baby pull himself upright with the ears of a cocker spaniel. Dog never flinched.
Wodehouse fan, Jeeves?

Most docile dog I've ever known is my sister's 5-pound Yorkshire Terrior. She has always been well treated but still adopts a posture of extreme passivity when someone reaches down to pick her up. In meeting dogs, she will not approach a large or medium-sized dog; for those near her size she occasionally summons the nerve for a nose-to-nose greeting, but she's liable to get spooked in the middle of it and leap into a 360-degree turn. She obviously knows she is small. But withal, she is an intelligent and affectionate little dog.

I think alot of people would put Golden Retriever at the top of the list for best dog with families/kids.

I have a Basset Hound named Rufus.
He is a drooling, f*rting piece of furniture. He does have a tendency to eat underwear. Not chew it. Not shred it. He swallows it whole. We've never actually caught him in the act, but we discover the barfed up evidence about a week after he eats them.
He is only motivated to move when he wants to eat or relieve himself.
He is wonderfully lovable and docile. The only time you have to worry is if you are trying to take food away from him. Anyone other than me would draw back a stump.

Well, beagles are pretty harmless, as are golden retrievers (well bred ones, at least). English Cocker spaniels aren't at all like American ones. They are very sweet. Keeshonds (a type of Dutch spitz) are for the most part wonderfully outgoing. English Bulldogs look ferocious, but are usually pretty easygoing.
