Would like to once again call upon the FREEPER Prayer Network.
Over the weekend my Step-Children's Dad's house was broken into. Numerous Firearms, personal items, jewelry and his work Truck (2002 Chevy Pickup) were stolen.
During the subsequent look around the house, they found 2 cigarettes (apparently an off brand or something) that our 17 year old son recognized as ones smoked by another teenager who lived down the street. Then during police interviews he remembered this guy asking casual questions about his dad, his job, etc etc on the bus.
Finally a neighbor has come forward and said that he saw a van parked in front of the house the night it was broken in to. While the description is not exact, it closely matches the van driven by the kid asking the questions etc.
Unfortunately, all of this is not enough evidence for the cops to pick up the kid, but as it always works the word has gotten to him that my stepson identified him as a possible suspect.
We have just found out that this kid is a gang member, and has an extensive record of burglaries, assaults, drug charges, etc etc.
He has passed word through mutual friends and acquantances that he has "marked" our son with his gang, and that he is "dead".
PLease pray that the police find ample evidence to pick up this little punk, and that his threats are just the idle threats of a 17 year old thug.

The police have been informed of the threat, but we got the standard "we can only do so much, blah blah blah."
But, one of the investigators said that they are actively looking for a reason to pick this punk up, and my wife's ex said that he has noticed a sharp increase in "routine" police patrols in the neighborhood.
Basically, from none to him seeing a cop car cruising the area every hour or so.

Given what the police know, I find it hard to believe that they don't have enough to pick him up for questioning. I would think that if these dopes were dumb enough to leave their smoke butts at the house, then there may be prints?
Sending him to Dad's for awhile sounds smart. I hope your son stays safe and justice will be served to the punka$$ kids who did this.

Sorry to hear this about your family . Prayers being said. The gang problem is scary. I don't know why the police allow it to continue, but , here in LA, when they (police) tried to do something about it, they ended up being sued(thanks democRATS). Stay safe.

Other way around. Dad's house was the one broken in to, he has come to stay with us. The Boys split time between the two houses.
Not sure if they have dusted for prints or not.

Can only do so much .........WHATEVER!!!!!!!
This so angers me, it is within their powers to do anything and if this kid has a record a mile long, they can pick him up and hold him for 24 hours while they are investigating the crime. What are they gonna wait till something bad happens???? GRRRRRRrrrrrr
Commish, my thoughts and Prayers are with you and your family. Especially your Stepson. May God keep his comforting arms wrapped tightly around him until this is a SOLVED case.

DNA testing on the cigarette? Not a high priority for the cops, in a burglary.
My thoughts as well. I doubt they would want to spend the money on that.

Here in Montgomery the Gang problem is no where near the level of LA, and the violence level is a lot lower too (Mostly Car boosts, break ins, etc.) -- that's why I said I think the kids threats are just that, but it is better safe than sorry.
Unfortunately, if the police were able to crack down, as soon as one gang was broken another would form. It is a sad state of affairs we have to live with these days.

Sorry about the mix-up. Surely the police don't think this is the kid's first burglary? It sounds like the kid knew what to get, and didn't leave anything small and valuable behind. Any other similar burglaries in the area?
Stay safe.

I know what you mean, the police force here in Montgomery has become a joke the last 5 years. Before that they would have done that type of pre-emptive move -- but now we have a lovey-dovey touchy-feely Dumbocrap mayor who has immasculated the entire city, and now the police are a kind friendly helpful force.

Conspiracy to commit murder.File charges of Terrorist Threat to start with.
Temporary relocation is a good idea but needs to be more that 20 miles, that is a short "cruise" for gang punks and they will think nothing of it.
Maybe a well thought out "sting" would get these scumballs some jail time, but the cops probly can't/won't because of entrapment defense.

NO, they know the kid and know his record, but as I just posted above they are handcuffed by thier rules now which don't allow them to "harass" citizens without probable cause.
And yes, they knew exactly what they were looking for and what they could take. Everything they took was valuable grab fast and toss it in the vehicle stuff. Plus the truck keys were on the kitchen counter. They worked very vast and efficiently -- they left a fortune in BIG ticket stereo and video equipment because it was not easily carried.
Definately was just punk kids too, and they left 2 Less Paul and 1 Fender Stratocaster valued at over $20,000 sitting in thier stands in the den.
Luckily insurance is covering all the losses, but all the insurance money in the world cannot replace the security one is supposed to feel in one's home.

Prayers for your step-son. Although I pray it does not come down to an "incident", defend yourself and your family.

Obviously you have to handle this as you see best. In my own case, some "gang" types threatened to kill my son. I confronted one later and in as clearly explicit manner as I could, explained to him that if I heard another word from him or saw any cocky crap in response I would kill him on the spot.
I also jacked the action of my 12 ga. on the driveway and locked stares as some of the others drove by in seperate incidents. They are cowards generally. I don't advise this as a course of action. It worked in my instance, although it was over the top in many respects.
You may not be able to do this sort of thing in your circumstance or where you live. Barring taking direct action on your part I would second the motion of getting your stepson out of harms way. May the Almighty God intervene on your behalf.

My personal experience with the Montgomery police response to a burglary was that they just came and filled out a form report. No fingerprints, no investigation. Where was the burglary?

As much as I hate to be the one to tell you, LEOs are not obligated to protect the individual. This is why I always say it is a good idea to arm yourself.
As for you, commish, as much as I hate to say it, I would find another place to live that is if not in another part of the state then in another state altogether.
If this is your typical gang then chances are quite good they will go after him and not care who gets in the crossfire. And this of course means you should assume your entire family is in grave danger.
