Conservatives Should Support the President Now and in November Becauseā€¦

…They Asked for His Kind of Leadership

You hear it in the coffee shops all over the "red areas" of the map. Everyone knows that is where the real politics is discussed in America. Conservatives are asking themselves, "What was the President thinking?" They might be talking about No Child Left Behind, or steel tariffs or the signing of many less than conservative bills.

In the coffee shops in the "blue areas," liberals don't sit around much. They are too angry and busy to stop for a while but many are thinking that President Bush is the most conservative president in years, since "oh, my God, Reagan," and he must be stopped.

Both of these assessments cannot be true and after spending years looking at politics, I took my first serious stand on a candidate in 1968 at the tender age of 9, if both sides are mad at you, you are probably on the right track. So why should conservatives and moderates support the President, now on issues and later this year at the ballot box?

-snip-

Based on the history of this President, we better not count him out till we see how things unfold. He is what conservatives asked for in a President. He cut taxes, got our economy going again and lives and breathes the safety of this country and the people in it. When it is all said and done, George W. Bush does what he believes is right for the American people and he is willing to stand on his record in November.

You know the BEST part about the liberalism of the Clinton Presidency....

Conservatives were not afraid to go "balls-to-the-walls" in fighting it. Somehow, Conservatives fear opposing Bush's liberalism.

I will likely vote for Bush. But I will make him work for my vote and I will let him and my Congressmen know when I oppose their spinelessness in the protecting of my freedom.

"Conservatives Should Support the President Now and in November Because ..."

... he is preferable to Dean or Hillary. And because he is doing so well in the "War on Terror" (aside from that whole "open borders/rewards for lawbreakers" thing.)

So what is the alternative my friends? A Democrat who is going to tax you to death, sell our national security to the UN and Europe. Please think very hard about this

And how is this Democrat going to accomplish any of this? Not with a Republican Congress, certainly!

IF a Democrat is elected, the House and Senate Republicans will suddenly remember their principles in numbers large enough to block anything the Dem president wants, even if just months before they were falling over themselves to support the same ideas from a Republican president.

He is what conservatives asked for in a President

Not any conservative I've ever heard of. Now he may be a good fit for those that like to play at being conservative (i.e. the new Republican party) though

Probably the most level headed approach.

Conservatives Should Support the President Now and in November Because…

We must define "Support". Do you "support" a drug addict by supplying him with more drugs???

I think that fighting against any Republican's misguided policies IS SUPPORTING him. Bush (and ALL Republicans) stands a better chance of winning elections if he governs conservatively!

Many conservatives are tired of the half a loaf government.

And who will give the conservatives the whole loaf? If sitting home or supporting a third party candidate helps elect Dean, how much loaf will we have?

Bring back the good ol' days of gridlock. I honestly don't see how this is any better than having a Democrat in the White House.

Many, if not most, of the big-mouths lambasting Bush the loudest here are on Free Republic never voted for him in Y2K — they're Patsies who supported for Pat Buchanan and the other wingnuts of the Reform Partry.

If he lives and breathes our safety, why is he calling out for anyone with two legs to cross our border illegally and get legal status?

If he cares about the economy, why is he setting us up for huge future tax increases by expanding the government?

I'm not saying I won't vote for him, just that he's giving me very little reason.
