Conservatives Should Support the President Now and in November Becauseā€¦
Jewish World Review, January ^ | January 13, 2004 | Martha Zoller

…They Asked for His Kind of Leadership

You hear it in the coffee shops all over the "red areas" of the map. Everyone knows that is where the real politics is discussed in America. Conservatives are asking themselves, "What was the President thinking?" They might be talking about No Child Left Behind, or steel tariffs or the signing of many less than conservative bills.

In the coffee shops in the "blue areas," liberals don't sit around much. They are too angry and busy to stop for a while but many are thinking that President Bush is the most conservative president in years, since "oh, my God, Reagan," and he must be stopped.

Both of these assessments cannot be true and after spending years looking at politics, I took my first serious stand on a candidate in 1968 at the tender age of 9, if both sides are mad at you, you are probably on the right track. So why should conservatives and moderates support the President, now on issues and later this year at the ballot box?

-snip-

Based on the history of this President, we better not count him out till we see how things unfold. He is what conservatives asked for in a President. He cut taxes, got our economy going again and lives and breathes the safety of this country and the people in it. When it is all said and done, George W. Bush does what he believes is right for the American people and he is willing to stand on his record in November.

Funny, because I never said that I was going to sit at home during election day. Why don't YOU do the honorable thing for once and actually respond to what posters have said instead of what you imagined that they said.

You didn't vote for him? Yet you went out and fought for him?

That's totally irrelevant. A lot of conservatives didn't vote for Bush yet went to bat for him in 2000. That didn't mean they wanted Gore to win just to spite Bush and his fan club. It was all about giving Bush a fresh chance and seeing what happens. Who knew back then? Maybe Bush would've outlined a bold, conservative agenda. He didn't. Apples and oranges.

You just like to fight, don't you?

As opposed to mindlessly pulling the lever and voting straight Republican party ticket? Sinkspur, by the end of this decade the Republicans will be Democrats, and Democrats will be bloodthirsty Stalinists. Are you still going to vote lockstep GOP and support liberal GOP policies?

I suspected that you didn't vote for him, so who the hell cares how much you fought for him? If he'd lost, who cares how much you'd fought?

I care about the direction that this country is going. It's going South big-time. You're probably happy because your RNC fund-raising letter arrived in the mail today which features a glossy photo of Bush striking some pose, which explains your screw-you, I'm a Republican attitude.

We discuss many things around here other than GWB. As a matter of fact I kind of done arguing about him anymore, after a while you reach the point of diminishing returns.

You don't like my "philibuster" posts? Here I was thinking my posts on the engineering of incinerators, the making of rice paper and the mating habits of the platypus were making an impact.

"...its just amazing that after 8 years of the Clintons, people would want to go back to that. Oh, I know they dont want that but thats what I believe will happen."

Actually, it will be 10x WORSE this time...Dean and the far left fringe will bury the naive purists with Executive Orders on domestic policy, while ignoring or coddling our enemies for another 4 or 8 years of unchallenged terrorism against us, just like in the 90's.

Yeah, but at least it won't be a Republican who allows all that...so it's OK. [/sarcasm]

Incredible!

Voting against Bush=sitting home.

And I do plenty of honorable things, like ignoring most of your rantings when I see them.

But you mentioned me without pinging me.

No wonder you are a Libertarian, you live by the 60's mantra, "Do it feels good. Consequences, what consequences?"

I am thinking about the consequences. The long term ones. If you allow the 2 parties to offer you two different flavors of socialism, you are the one who is flushing the country down the toilet. All the Bushbots want to hail the tax cuts. What about the deficit? Who do you think is going to pay for that? Our kids, that's who. Maybe even our grandkids. Republicrats who want a smaller govt should accept nothing less from their elected officials. I think all these Bushbots should think about what will come after Bush is gone. Do you really think after a successful first term for Bush, we will get a new Goldwater to take the reigns? The only way to slap the Republicans back into reality is to hand them their ass on a platter. You are really worried about a 4 year stint with Dean or Clark? I am far more worried about 8 more years of Dubya and Jeb (who will likely be the trifecta of the POS Bush family dominance of the whitehouse).

Once again, you're being an idiot by assuming that I'm going to vote against Bush. I never said that I was, but you don't have the mental capacity to take that into consideration. Taking into account what positions posters have actually taken is just too darn hard for you, huh? After all, it's just so much easier to make it up all in your head.

"And I do plenty of honorable things, like ignoring most of your rantings when I see them."

Knowing you, the posts you're referring to probably weren't even written by me.

"But you mentioned me without pinging me."

Cry me a river.

"And it may come as a huge shock to you, but there are a lot of people around here who do, in fact, like me."

If I recall...illbay and Palpatine liked you. Weren't you on their ping list? Personally....I don't much like gun-grabbers.

First of all, many of the illegals here already have false documents. That is how they are working. You don't really believe that they all have Green Cards or work permits do you? I can go buy a fake I.D. right now in downtown L.A. If you don't know about voter fraud, then you have been out of the mainstream concerns here in California. Bob Dornan lost to Loretta Sanchez in 1996 and 1998 for a Congressional seat here in So. California because of what most believed was voter fraud. Don't tell me these "guest-workers" won't get access to our voting booths.

The Hispanic are the fastest growing voting bloc in this country.

A lot of conservatives didn't vote for Bush yet went to bat for him in 2000.

Why would conservatives who didn't support Bush go out of their way to support him during the post-election turmoil? You didn't give a rip about him during the election, why after the election?

That didn't mean they wanted Gore to win just to spite Bush and his fan club.

Oh, please. I've read some of the posts during the aftermath. Lots of FR posters hoping that Bush loses the recount so Gore can win and "the revolution" or whatever can get underway. Give me a break.

It was all about giving Bush a fresh chance and seeing what happens. Who knew back then? Maybe Bush would've outlined a bold, conservative agenda. He didn't. Apples and oranges.

You people KNEW from the get-go what Bush was proposing. Education, Medicare/SS reform, tax cuts...he was repeating these issues day in and day out on the campaign trail. Now you're upset because Bush won't yield to the Pat Robertsons, the Extremer Extremely Extreme right-wing, FReepers here because he's not conservative enough.

And maybe we should refer to the recent influx of Bush bashers as "liberals"

Fine by me. It was good enough for my people back in the 18th century, so it works for me.

The kind of person, who would attract the UNAPPEASABLES/Bushbashedrs, here, to run in a GOP presidential primary, would not only NEVER win the primaries, but if he should ( hypothetical, because he wouldn't get that far ! ), he would NEVER win the general election.

And, since you have only been " interested " in politics, since 1994, you haven't " settled " for very long and don't have all that firm a grip on understanding what's what.

For example, Reagan actually DID grant blanket amnesty to illegals; President Bush has done no such thing at all. Was President Reagan a LIBERAL ? If you were older, you would have been calling Reagan names, had FR existed when he was president and claiming that he wasn't a Conservative, was ruining this nation, and the like.

But if they fall for the trap and register for the guest worker program it will be easier to take them off the voter registration rolls.
