Conservatives Should Support the President Now and in November Becauseā¦

They Asked for His Kind of Leadership
You hear it in the coffee shops all over the "red areas" of the map. Everyone knows that is where the real politics is discussed in America. Conservatives are asking themselves, "What was the President thinking?" They might be talking about No Child Left Behind, or steel tariffs or the signing of many less than conservative bills.
In the coffee shops in the "blue areas," liberals don't sit around much. They are too angry and busy to stop for a while but many are thinking that President Bush is the most conservative president in years, since "oh, my God, Reagan," and he must be stopped.
Both of these assessments cannot be true and after spending years looking at politics, I took my first serious stand on a candidate in 1968 at the tender age of 9, if both sides are mad at you, you are probably on the right track. So why should conservatives and moderates support the President, now on issues and later this year at the ballot box?
-snip-
Based on the history of this President, we better not count him out till we see how things unfold. He is what conservatives asked for in a President. He cut taxes, got our economy going again and lives and breathes the safety of this country and the people in it. When it is all said and done, George W. Bush does what he believes is right for the American people and he is willing to stand on his record in November.

Look, why don't y'all just copy this down so it doesn't have to be reposted.
Repeat after me:
When you are politically extreme, in either direction, you will NEVER EVER get what you want. You can complain about that fruitlessly, or you can accept it. Those are your two choices. You are allowed no others. It's not something you have any control over. It is the nature -- the definition -- of the political spectrum.
Half a loaf is what you get not because of anything anyone did to you. It's because half a loaf is all you can ever get. It's not the moment. It's not the circumstance. It is timeless reality.
All you can do is minimize displeasure. You can never maximize pleasure. If you are responsible, you have to vote for the candidate with a chance of winning who is less liberal than the other. If you do otherwise, as in staying home, voting for the liberal or voting fringe third party, you condemn your best friend and your family to life in a society that encourages killing unborn babies, apologizes to the French and raises taxes in order to fund more midnight basketball.
There are a lot of aspects of life in which one has no viable choice. Breathing. Paying taxes. Stopping at red lights. This is merely another.

Yeah...that's scarey. A Dem President dedicated to Nation Building as opposed to a Republican President dedicated to Nation Building Actually you left out one word from your above passage.
Yeah...that's scarey. A Dem President dedicated to United Nation Building as opposed to a Republican President dedicated to Nation Building
And you know that.

By voting fringe party/staying home on election day, you teach the GOP/RNC
N-O-T-H-I-N-G ! What YOU get, if enough of you manage to pull it off, is
exactly what you claim to NOT want ... a Dem president and more Dems in both Houses.
You'll NEVER find enough people to go fringe/abandon the GOP; not in your lifetime !

your post made me extremely sad when i read it. not to say you are not right because you have your points. i hope he is just trying to court votes he doesn't feel can get..... however, i hope he doesn't lose more than he courts...
To: Dane
That wasn't me that said that, but I'll answer.
There's a Democrat in the whitehouse now. He's just better at National defense than the real party is.
Why should I vote when I don't have a real choice. Don't waste your breath, you are not going to change my mind and the more you try the more I"ll dig in my heels. I'll tell you like I've told others on this board.
Give me a plausible reason why I should support a man who only wants my input and my values on election day? Tell me why I should support that SOB?
I don't, I won't and as far as I'm concerned I won't be voting for him or any Republican that spews his pablum.

I won't be steamrolled by either party. I also will not be taken for granted. It's all about you isn't and not the country.

Six of those 8 years(80-86). In 87 he nominated Bork and Kennedy borked him.
Thanks for that Senate info. I remember the Bork hearings...very nasty stuff.

There's a Democrat in the whitehouse now. He's just better at National defense than the real party is. Yeah right, a demo President would sign tax cuts or a PBA ban or give the finger to the UN, etc. etc.
But I digress, it is all about you and if someone doesn't agree with you 110%, the hell with them, I give a defacto vote to someone I agree with 0% of the time.

"How does President Clark and Vice President Clinton sound!" Absolutely disgusting, but that has been my prediction for the last two months. Bush is toast.

lol at this point bud, I have no choice. There's a Dim in the whitehouse now as far as I'm concerned.
Don't waste your breath. Convice me positively why I should vote for a man who has shit on every conservative in the Republican Party or let it die. Ya'll who are screaming that we're going to elect a Democrat by not voting for Mr Bush, maybe you'd better quit hammering on us and go to the RNC and tell them that they are really screwing up here. Or, if you don't care, that's fine too. I've already made my decision, and it's not a one issue thing. It's ALOT of issues that made me decide I will NOT vote for this Jackass in office.

My view is that he is starting serious dialogs...and with only proposals, cutting his opponents' water off. This dialog placates those he has negotiated with on our behalf, like the Mexicans and Canadians and Dems...and has certainly gotten all sides thinking outside their respective boxes...and paying attention. Let's see what REALLY takes place, and in the mean time, allow him to play the diplomatic hand here and abroad, as best as he sees fit. There are national security issues in all this which we only guess at...and until the rest of us ALL become president with him...we should let him proceed with his job.
My 2 cents.

Sorry. I don't believe you. You've been trashing Bush since he was inaugurated. Bull droppings, sinskpur...I have had nothing but respect and praise for Bush as a person. I ALWAYS criticize the policies, and not the person himself. So go to hell...
You knew good and well that Bush was not a screaming right-winger; he's largely done what he said he was going to do.
I knew that and, although I didn't vote for him in 2000, I still went out and supported him with among other conservatives against the Rats' hijacking.
You talk about principles when you trash a president who's doing exactly what he said he would do?
You're the last person who should talk about principles. You'd rather march lockstep and participate in groupthink than go out and fight against entrenched, spineless representatives of a political party who have turned their backs on what they're supposed to believe in.

I have never been called an idiot on this forum. Its quite unsettling. Not thin skinned or anything, but its just amazing that after 8 years of the Clintons, people would want to go back to that. Oh, I know they dont want that but thats what I believe will happen. Hows is that staement ironic and why does that make me idiot? Its just a detached curiosity.

When it comes to my vote pal, you're damned right it is Go ahead and vote anyway you want, just don't have a temper tantrum when someone makes the observation that your non-vote for Bush is a defacto vote for the demo.

The biggest reason I can think of is because if a democrat gets in office we will all have to purchase prayer rugs, burkas, and "Hooked on Arabic" for the kids. Tax cuts are also another reason. Some of his pro-life stances are good too. Besides that, we will be getting the same as democrat policies.

"I don't look to the government to protect me and my family. Do you?" So we should dissolve the military? Who protected you from Communism, Fascism..and now Terrorism? Such gratitude for the men and women who served this country.
I don't depend on the government or anyone for my personal success...but we all need protection from criminals and dictators and other governments who don't see things the way we do.
The federal government has a basic responsibility to protect our nation and the people from foreign invaders. No local militia or closet full of firearms can protect us sufficiently in today's world of global warfare.
