City to retract release calling Free Republic a 'hate group.'
Fresno will pay $60,000 to conservative online forum Free Republic and retract a news release that called the organization a "hate group," according to a settlement agreement released Monday. Free Republic founder Jim Robinson, who lives in Fresno, said he wouldn't have filed the suit if the city had acknowledged its error.
"I think it's unfortunate the city did not retract and apologize immediately after they knew they were in the wrong," Robinson said.
City Attorney Hilda Cantu Montoy said the lawsuit was settled to "avoid the expense and burden of litigation."
"It's not in any way admitting any liability by any party," Montoy said.

I don't know very many people on this wonderful forum. borne out of a brilliant idea, and obviously created with much labor, in addition the daily tending to keep it fertile and necessary to those who contribute and make it part of their lives.
I could not let the opportunity pass however to congratulate the pursuit of justice, even though denied, the money will no doubt be put to excellent use.
I know much of the restitution will be plowed back into this site, but I hope Mr. Robinson gets a group of his close confidants together and enjoys a great dinner on the Fresno Bee!!!
Hate group indeed. I have a few sites I'll direct the Bee to if they want to read hate. It doesn't reside here!!
Congratulations, and thank you for this forum. So much to learn. What a collection of great people to learn from.

Hate group indeed. I have a few sites I'll direct the Bee to if they want to read hate. It doesn't reside here!! It appears the definition of a hate group for some is anyone who doesn't think like they do. So much for peace and tolerance.

Former Human Relations Commission Chairwoman Debbie Reyes, who sent out the news release in September and who resigned this month, said the city should have "stuck it out and fought it.""I don't think they should have settled, but they pretty much settle on anything," Reyes said.
Uh, huh.
Better put some ice on that.

I agree! What a good piece of news to read.
Good guys should always win the decision when it comes to honest information and communication. We don't have enough of it in our world.

No.
The bear remains in captivity until I say so. I am, after all, a hate group of one.

Exactly ! I remember that flippant comment from the previous thread on this. I was thinking about that when I pinged this thread. Further thought reminds me of the old expression that I heard regarding the blatant disregard for taxpayer money and government spending. Something about a billion dollars here, a billion dollars there ... pretty soon you're talking about some REAL money. Who was it, G. Gordon Liddy said that ??

Progressive activists have long suspected FreeRepublic receives under the table covert funding directly or indirectly from the GOP party. So it is quite likely and plausible that when Autry met with Bush and discussed this with him Bush told him to pay off these good old-boy conservatives and get some funds into their hands so they can continue their fight against the left and all things progressive. They forgot the part about George Bush secretly parachuting in from an SR-71 for a speaking appearance, so that no gap would appear in his timetable. Oops, I wasn't supposed to spill the beans.

<< The semantic opposite of "Hate" is "LOVE". >>
Is it?
I'd have thought, "delight."
And that the opposite of "love" was not "hate" -- but "indifference?"
But I'll go for our's being a Love Group.
Outside of my lodge, I know of no more dedicated nor more passionate lovers of our beloved FRaternal Republic than we of Free Republic Dot Com!
Happy New Year, by the way.
