Bush's goal isn't amnesty for "undocumented" workers; his aim is a drive for amnesty for the corporate
felons that hire, aid, abet, and harbor Illegaliens.
Federal Immigration and Nationality Act
Section 8 USC 1324(a)(1)(A)(iv)(b)(iii)
"Any person who . . . encourages or induces an alien to . . . reside . . . knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that such . . . residence is . . . in violation of law, shall be punished as provided . . . for each alien in respect to whom such a violation occurs . . . fined under title 18 . . . imprisoned not more than 5 years, or both."

All of those are good reasons to vote him out. As far as passing unconstitutional "laws", I doubt that you would be able to get Congress to comply because they gave such bills to him in the first place.
Failing his oath to protect America from enemies both foreign and domestic
This would be a valid and workable article for impeachment, for I suspect that violation of an oath would be a misdemeanor (at least).

Then as far as you are concerned the problem is hopeless and you have nothing positive to add to the discussion. Bye.

I also support President Bush's call for a guest worker program. So should you, unless you just like to complain about illegal immigration traffic through your neighborhood. By changing the definition of illegal WRT to immigration? That's always a classic argument. In fact, why don't we give everyone currently in jail a fresh start: we'll empty out all the jails in America, and then we'll begin enforcing our laws again. Priddle praddle, as they say in the south. Borders really do serve a logical purpose, as well as quotas and the subsequent need for a fair system for immigration applicants. The prosecution of those who think that they are exceptions to our system must be seriously pursued.

You are absolutely right. Bush is refusing to enforce our laws and to defend our borders. His actions are disgusting.

I am curious and you seem knowledgalbe on this subject. NAFTA is not a treaty, right? So NAFTA doesnot supercede our Constitution right? Could be that Bush is simply implementing the accords in NAFTA and what we really need to do is withdraw from NAFTA.

Thanks for clarifying your remarks regarding Spiff's predicament.
the problem of illegal immigration will continue so long as there are poor people elsewhere who want to come and work to support their families.
You support the drug war, CJ. If I were to say "the problem of drug smuggling will exist so long as there are drug users who want to support their habits" as a reason to not engage in efforts to interdict smuggling and dealing in the drug war, you would jump all over that. But apparently you are willing to shrug at the problem of illegal immigration. I postulate to you, CJ, that the problems of illegal immigration and the problems of drug abuse can only truly be dealt with on the demand side. As long as their is a demand for drugs, there will be smuggling. As as long as there is a demand for cheap illegal labor, there will be illegal immigration.
If we made it very unprofitable to hire illegals, they would stop coming here. If we come up with a program to increase legal immigration without punishing those who hire illegals, we'll continue to have large-scale illegal immigration alongside the new program - and the continuation of the illegal labor will suppress the wages paid by those hiring legals, thereby decreasing participation in that program.
Before we can come up with a viable "guest worker" program or something like it, we first need to come up with the will and the means to combat the current illegal immigration mess.

"A "solution" which rewards lawbreakers and malfeasant politicians isn't "just," and which is opposed by most Amercians isn't "workable."
The "solution" is to enforce the existing laws. Too bad we don't have the backbone to do so.

I don't recall any provisions in NAFTA about residency/citizenship/immigration issues. However, I have not read that in a while. My last recollection that it still actually promoted a trade imbalance where other countrie could employ tariffs on American products higher than what the U.S. could employ on theirs.

Jihad we should never tell another free-thinking human being what they 'should' do. And those of us who digress from what other's think we should do, have no right to badger us.

The "solution" is to enforce the existing laws. Too bad we don't have the backbone to do so. I don't think it's a matter of backbone. I think it's a combination of two forces - those who benefit from cheap labor and the radical pro-illegal forces - being effective in applying muscle to legislators. How many times have you read about an INS crackdown on illegal employees being curtailed once the affected businesses howl to their congresscritter? And how often have you seen efforts to curtail the incorporation of illegals into legal society (and government programs) halted after shrieks of "racism!" from the usual suspects?
The polls say that over eighty percent of Americans are opposed to illegal immigration. But the other twenty percent apparently makes noise well in excess of their numbers. If you want politicians to have some backbone, you gotta convince the eighty percent to do more than just hold an opinion - you need to get more of them to act on it.
