Illegals Are Destroying America - A Letter To Rep Tom Tancredo
Congressman, Tom Tancredo | 1-9-4

Posted on 01/10/2004 6:13:48 AM PST by from this machine

The following letter was received by the heroic Congressman, Tom Tancredo, and posted on his site as part of 'Tom's Mailbag'...

My story.

I live in a world where I do not count. I am White. I am poor. I don't have coalitions rallying for what I feel is important. I don't have news reporters writing about "poor me". But, I have views. I vote. I pay taxes. And, I know there are millions of people in America just like me.

I live next to a shelter built by politicians who are afraid to have an opinion about closing the border. Daily, 1,500 illegal Mexicans visit that shelter. It was supposed to keep these "poor" people from urinating and defecating on the streets. It didn't. If I defecated on the street, I would get fined.

My home and vehicles have been broken into 22 times in 5 years. I stopped calling the police each time now, because they don't come anyway. Instead, we bought a gun. Scared off the last illegal trying to steal our truck. He knew enough English to say, "Sorry", as we pointed it at him. 3 months later, we still have a towel over the smashed driver's side window. Last week, I was ordered to pay a $85.00 fine for a false alarm. Police showed up for THAT hearing. The police couldn't find any criminal at my home when my home alarm sounded. I am curious how long police think bad guys "hang around" after an alarm has been triggered.

When I was rear ended in my car, the policeman said I would have to wait while he called for back -up. My baby was screaming. The police had no film in the camera. The back- up police had no fingerprinting ink, or film. The illegal had an ID, but the police said there was nothing that could be done. The illegal would just get another fake ID and would never show for court. He didn't have insurance. The illegal who hit me said, "Sorry", as he was walking away. He was free to go. I was free to pay the deductible on my car, and the chiropractor bills for my children and myself. If I drove without insurance and hurt someone or their possessions, I would be forced to pay for the damages.

My husband works 6 days a week as a framing contractor. He pays FICA, Social Security, State taxes, Federal taxes, General liability insurance, Workman's comp insurance, and probably others that I don't remember. His Workman's Comp. just skyrocketed from $5,000 per year, to $28,000 per year. Now I ask you... WHERE are we to come up with an extra $23,000? We had NO CLAIMS! Should I take it from my food budget? We often go weeks without meat! Should it come from our clothing budget? We buy our clothes at thrift sales and Savers. How about our entertainment account? Does seeing a movie every month qualify?

My home insurance costs me $100.00 more yearly because I live on a border state. How long until Kansas becomes a border state?

I have had no medical insurance for years and years. I can't afford it. At 33, I got cancer. My doctor told me to go to ACCHS. I don't remember how to spell the state's medical system, since they declined me. My husband 's company had no profit in 6 months, due to theft, and lack of laws at the time to force general contractor's to pay . Without studying my receipts, I was declined. Interesting that the hundreds of illegal Mexicans standing in line, were being given food stamps, and medical care. They did not have social security numbers, and did not speak English. If you don't believe me, look at the application DES uses yourself, spend 5 minutes at DES and remind yourself why you pay taxes. You won't leave smiling.

Taxes. We fell behind 1 year. I contacted IRS and told them we want to make arrangements to pay. We now show the IRS EVERY thing we buy. From tampons to chewing gum-they see the receipt. For the next year, we will be scrutinized. For the next 5 years we will be audited. Maybe I should never have "done the right thing" and told them. Maybe I should change my name to Garcia.

My son cries nightly because his legs and arms hurt. He has cried for almost 7 years. My husband often walks on one leg because his back and leg pain is almost unbearable. Monthly, I have mini strokes. During those times, I lose the ability to speak well, and have seizures until I lose consciousness . We don't really know what is wrong with any of us. We may never know. WE can't afford a doctor. God forbid we need emergency services. 30% of the time, hospitals are on divert status, because there is no room. The illegals take their kids to ERs for colds and sore throats. I would only go if I lost a limb, or my heart gave out.

2 years ago, I announced to my family there would be no turkey for Thanksgiving. We would eat pasta and be thankful we were a family. My Catholic friend made arrangements for me to get a food box from her church. I went, reluctantly. I drove up in my broken old van, and saw a lot full of new (stickers still attached), suburbans. My van was the worst vehicle there, and it hit me that I really was poor! I stood in line for 20 minutes amazed at the number of Mexicans taking box after box of food. When it was my turn, I had to show ID. I was told to leave. There wasn't enough food for me to take a box. I looked around- there were boxes of food everywhere! For a minute I forgot I was White, and in their eyes, not deserving.

At church, our pastor reminds us to stay hopeful. I struggle to make sense of a system that has taken from me, and given to those who have more than I do.

Who will be my voice? Where is my coalition? I thought it was the leaders of America. I was wrong. They have sold out me and millions like me out. What's worse...I don't know why.

DONT you just want to scream at these people that get on the tube and say these are jobs that AMERICANS WONT DO

Yes. Americans used to do them. And Americans would do them. Maybe lettuce would cost more, or maybe there would be less lettuce consumed, or maybe we'd buy more produce from Mexico. Maybe an advanced nation wasn't meant to be quite so agrarian. I am happy to import produce, instead of importing criominals and a cultures that does not comport with American principles of work, law and liberty.

If they were Swedish and wore bikinis I am sure you would not have a problem with it at all.

But they aren't Swedish and they aren't wearing bikinis and they are wrecking our country so we do have a problem with it.

Yeah I am a little skeptical about a Church refusing people food. I volunteered at Church food banks and we even gave food out to people in suits.

There are entirely too many DU mantras floating around these immigration threads. No question many feel strongly about the issue and fancy themselves conservatives (and conveniently ignore the fact they want government to solve this problem for them -- real conservative, that), but this issue is being perceived by DU as a way to create a Ralph Nader on the right and they are getting involved.

People had better recalibrate themselves and recognize that this issue was not even on the radar screen two weeks ago. I have yet to see anyone produce numbers on how many illegals were stopped at the border since Bush took office versus before he took office. That is the ONLY data that would indicate he takes fewer steps to stop illegal immigration than previous presidents.

It's not Christmas vacation, it's Winter Break.

Our company calender stuck "Winter Break" in. Alot of us have been raising hell about it since last years calender didn't mention either one. Its like there are trying to shove this do our throats. I'll always call it "Christmas".

I hear its mighty cold up in Maine right now. I have to wonder how the Somalis in Lewistown like sub-zero temps.

Also, people, note that there is nothing new under the sun. Germany has had difficulty absorbing East Germany and the EU in general faces a mass immigration problem from the poor countries of eastern Europe. The individual EU countries also have the occasional internal cries of "destruction of culture" and things of that sort.

How does what is happening differ from the enormous influx of Italians and Irish in the late 1800's and early 1900's? The proportion was about the same for the population as a whole then. Perhaps one might claim the difference was that by boat, they arrived legally vs Mexicans arriving illegally. I think the numbers are what, 8 million illegals and 60% are Mexican? Legality is a matter of passing a law so that can be waved away. What really matters is the mathematics. The proportion to today's 300 million would seem very similar to Irish/Italian influx to the US population of that time.

The point being, "the country" survived just fine.

"This stuff sounds like a load of hooey..."

The part about the food basket certainly seems questionable.

I feel the same, "This is My America" illegals must go, they are illegal. The ACLU should go with them followed by our politicians who are in the game for all they can get. Sooner I think rather than later there is going to be one hell of an uprising in this country to set things straight.

I lived several years in the Middle East. It was commonplace for pregnant women to fly over here to have their baby, thereby conferring US citizenship on it, before returning back home. Why do we give it away so easily? Why was this whole citizenship/immigration issue never put to some kind of public debate instead of rammed down our throats? And when they changed the immigration laws in the mid-1960s to move us away from European-based emigres, why was that not a bigger issue at the time? It had among the most profound affects on our society of any law in our history -- in essence, a conscious decision to change our demographics, our culture, our values -- and yet I never hear of it being the result of years of public debate. And why is it not permissible for us, even now, to change our immigration laws to permit only the most talented to come here? It is as if we are dealing with a force of nature rather than a legal issue we can control. I realize the issue of illegals is a separate one -- I guess as a nation we have decided, by default, that there is nothing we can do in either case.

Actually, that's not true. Long Island created it's Sachem Quality Of Life organization years ago to stop the illegal hiring halls. They were founded in Farmingville, where they wanted to build one of those hiring halls. Because the people banned together (although the media referred to them as racists) this hiring hall was not built.

Not all those who applied to enter the U.S. were allowed in, but those that did learned to speak ENGLISH; another difference between that wave of immigrants and this one. There was no special treatment that favored the Irish or Italians (just the opposite).
Today a non-citizen receives health, education and welfare for free. There are many cases of Americans being denied medical care (because they could not afford it), but would have had they not been citizens. And, the police often look the other way, and in fact are told to look the other way in many cases when an illegal breaks a traffic law, because the processing takes all day. And, uninsured illegals mean that your insurance pays for all the damages in a traffic accident. The costs keep going up.
The early German immigrants (including their children) often became indentured servants for several years just to pay for their passage here. Of course, they came here to escape religious persecution not to milk the American system for every dime they could and send it back to Mexico. The early immigrants became a part of America and assimilated in every way.
There really is no comparison.

And that she had cancer. From what I'm able to gather, she didn't get treatment--is she dead, is she barely alive, did the cancer spontaneously cure itself? And, although she couldn't figure out which agency to go to to get medical assistance, she could remember its acronym for this letter.

Seriously, I agree with everything you said. I like that driver's license too!

I know when we spent 5 years in Germany with the Air Force, we were taught their ways and their traditions. We were to "respect" them because we were "guests" in their Country.

But it just seems that we American's are supposed to welcome everyone with open arms and let them do to us what ever they want.

Also, a lot of Germans could speak English, but refused to talk English to us. WE had to learn DEUTCH. I just can't understand why America is to cow tow to every immigrant that comes in here today.

THEY are guests in OUR Country. Now, why can't they respect OUR ways? I'm just a little tired of it. If we let this continue, we won't HAVE an America anymore.
