This week, Steve Ybarra, an adviser to Howard Dean who sits on the Executive Board of the California Democratic Party (CDP) attacked California U.S. Senate candidate and former U.S. Treasurer, Rosario Marin, as a "house Mexican for the Republicans."
Mr. Ybarra, who also represents the Democratic National Committee (DNC) as Pacific Regional Vice Chair for the seven western states and possessions, made his statement in a mass email sent out to political activists, community leaders and a number of journalists. Ybarra subsequently claimed in a statement to Los Angeles' Univision channel 34 that Ms. Marin should be "proud of being called a house Mexican" inasmuch as he is "proud to be the house Mexican for the Democratic Party."
This stunning and offensive display of incivility, gender discrimination and raw bigotry once again exposes the hypocrisy of the Democratic Party and its left wing roots. Even as they prate of their embrace of diversity in public life, Ybarra and his Party sponsors repeatedly choose the road of exclusion. And in this case, Ybarra has elevated the ugly head of a reverse race card -- to be played against Latinos and Hispanics who don't toe his party's line.
This route is no stranger to Senator Barbara Boxer whose exclusionary politics have been displayed in her strident assaults on, and subsequent blocking of, the judicial nominations of Miguel Estrada, Janice Rogers Brown, Carolyn Kuhl and Priscilla Owen. And now, Boxer, CDP Chair, Art Torres and DNC Chair, Terry McAuliffe -- by their refusal immediately to denounce Ybarra's insidious and incendiary invective --obviously approve of Ybarra's representation of their party. One would think that even in their partisan fervor they would be ashamed to adopt Ybarra's self-appointed and demeaning description as Democratic "house Mexican."
Ms. Marin came to the U.S. as a teenage immigrant -- the daughter of a janitor and seamstress. She is an American success story. Working hard, schooling herself in English, starting a strong family, holding positions with the California Governor and as Mayor of an urban municipality, Rosario Marin became the highest ranked Latina in the Bush Administration.
The cynical silence of Boxer and her colleagues puts the lie to their devotion to fairness and social balance. Mr. Ybarra's boorish and insulting outburst is to be condemned by responsible public officials. And this early standard of intolerance in California's U.S. Senate race must be roundly rejected. Ybarra wrote in his email that he would "stick with Boxer." The question now is: will Ms. Boxer stick with him?
We await her response.

This needs more exposure by the Press. So far, Fox is the only news source I've seen even mention it.

This stunning and offensive display of incivility, gender discrimination and raw bigotryInsulting a woman for a reason unrelated to her gender is not "gender discrimination." If that were true, then any attack on any woman any where by any man for any reason would be "discrimination." That is the type of thing I expect from hyper politically-correct leftists, not from a right-winger complaining about incivility. (okay, fine, I do expect it from right-wingers, but only because I hold political hacks on both sides of the spectrum in very low esteem... I'm not surprised, just annoyed.)

Doesn't seem like "discrimination" of any kind, gender or otherwise--just bigotry.

So is Ybarra a "useful idiot", or a fully indoctrinated Communist?

I dunno, sounded like a plain old fashioned insult to me.

One might chalk-up useful idiocy to ignorance, but not its advancement to cadre member.

All's fair in love and war...this doesn't seem to be love so I am wagering it must be war...

Or maybe another cliche is appropriate here...one party's hypocrisy is another party's treasure...LOL!
How anyone views these statements about this woman in terminology is infinately smaller than the obvious insulting intent they bear. It's revolting and it is absolutely uncalled for.

On the other hand, "Ybarra" is also an Hispanic name, so one Hispanic saying something like that to another one isn't anything like one of us Anglos saying it.
It's like my calling another Czech a "bohunk." Speaking of which, when I was once referred to (by an Hispanic) as an Anglo and I properly responded that No, I am Slavic, his response was, "It's all the same."
I told him that that would be like my calling someone of French or Portuguese ancestry a Mexican, and no, it's NOT the same.

I guess the house Mexican for totalitarian socialists was a bit upset that Groupthink doesn't extend to everyone.

If I said a ethnic slur in an official statement(I wouldn't since it's dumb and goes against my individualism), the whole party, as well as ny county(which has a rep because one jerkoff Klanner who is now dead lived here 20 years ago) would be tarred and feathered. Statewide news.
Some Dem official much more high ranked used an OBVIOUS ethnic slur and gets nothing? That's BS.
