Email/Letter writing campaign against The President's plan for immigration
Myself

Posted on 01/07/2004 7:45:17 PM PST by Remember_Salamis

Has anybody started an email/letter writing campaign in response to the president's proposed immigration initiative?

We need to show the president that he can't take advantage of his conservative base.

Your post is interesting. While I am against the proposed plan we are now faced with accepting, and which I have great misgivings about, at least it is being addressed out in the open instead of being argued on the internet and ignored by the rest of the citizens as long as they are not affected or displaced by an illegal worker.

I think the American people should have been allowed more input than being told what would happen, as the general population are the ones being directly affected, not the politicians, scrambling for votes, not the wealthy who will seek profit on the backs of the illegals, but those people who pay the bulk of the taxation in this country.

If there is to be a "legal" program, I trust it will not be monitored as badly as the INS has been. Another bureaucracy or agency on the government coffers, doing very little and creating more red tape is what I see coming from this, for what, a million votes for George Bush?

Well at least he is trying to do something. I hope he knows more about it than I do. I am very disappointed.

Why should he?

Just to watch you turn blue?

You mean he might actually do something responsible about illegal aliens? Heaven forbid !

He's treating them like he's treated the Klintons and their cronies - flat ignoring their crimes and rewarding them.

His justice department has more important things to do, like busting bong peddlers and porno movie distributors.

What part of that do you not understand?

What I don't understand is how you can be so dense. Read my post again, carefully this time. I never denied that 9-12 million illegal aliens are already here. That's what this whole thing is about. My point was we do not need to tolerate an influx of illegals to fill jobs when millions of people around the world are patiently waiting in line to enter this country legally.

Yes, the problem is what to do about the illegals who are already here. And the solution is NOT to reward them for having shown such contempt for our laws. They are criminals. What you subsidize, you will get more of.

Sometimes I'm a little fuzzy on history

It appears, that you are likely not that fuzzy.

No the welfare enticement was not there in "25".

My Grandparents fled religious and other types of persecution from their homes in Eastern Europe. (Roman Catholic)(Sarajevo)

I do not believe that the Mexicans are coming here for the welfare. If that were true, they would all be in Minnesota, Maine and Michigan which have lavish benefits compared to other states.

No, what we find there are Arabs, and people from Middle Eastern countries.

There is a cultural difference to be sure. They come for the work.

As to the assimilation, that problem is caused by the multicultural crowd that advocates english as a second language. If they had to learn english, they would. Just like our Grandparents did.

Another difference is the fact that(in the case of my Grandparents) immigrants of 100 years ago fled their home countries for many different reasons that may or may not have involved work. Family ties were severed for safety reasons and they avoided contact for the most part until years later. In my case they severed them permanently due to death threats.

We all know and understand, (I think) that immigration is necessary to keep the U.S. economy vibrant and young.

These folks are/have been here and we must do something to deal with it that is rational and politically possible to do.

I think this plan is a good start. Let's see what, if anything comes out of congress. They could and can screw it all up and make it a joke.

That 86 changes took four years to screw up and pass.

As well as the fact that they have no incentive to want to learn English since they have no legal status, and have no hope of being allowed to stay here since they know they can be deported at a moment's notice. People who are against normalizing their legal status should not be using Balkanization as a reason to oppose changing the status quo, since it is the status quo which is fostering this Balkanization.

He has established a datum reference line, and can be hardcore on those that don't follow the rules from now on.

Ha, ha, ha!!! We're told this amnesty is unavoidable because we don't have the resources to round up and deport millions of illegal aliens. At the same time, we're assured that once this policy is implemented, we will get serious about enforcement and round up and deport those illegals who don't register under the program or who enter the country illegally, even though we don't have the resources for that kind of enforcement, which is why this amnesty is necessary in the first place.

Oh, ye suckers!!!!!!!!!

I think we can all agree that the devil is in the details, and that the stick must be enforced with the carrot.

No disagreement on this point.

So far, this seems to be all carrot, and no stick.

THE problems that are associated with illegals being made legal are just to many. when we start talking about ten or twelve millions we need to remember that there will be another fifty million added on ,as we all know the pres wants these people to be with their families ,and that means we are adding twenty five percent of people that are either mexican or hispanic, YOU HAVE TO KNOW THAT THIS WILL AFFECT OUR CULTURE .

"...can you elaborate what the hell you wish to achieve with that massive e-mail platform?"

Yeah...just wanna make it as easy as possible fer folks to be able to register their disapproval fer this ill-conceived proposal by Dubyuh to as many legislators as possible.

"Every Freeper should know the name of the people who pick up the phone in their Senator and House Rep offices. Every Freeper should make a trip to D.C. to shake their hands and let them know you exist. Freeep."

Well, Arne, I know my Congressman (Cantor), and he knows me, and now his folks know I'm upset with rewarding illegal immigrants for committing a crime.

"I really hate this e-mail spam crap launched from here. Hey, why the hell would my representative, representing the Western suburbs of Minneapolis, give one tinkers damn what some guy from Virginia thinks? Is there a point, here somewhere, when the folks who use FR for dumbass mobbing/spamming grow up?"

Sorry if mass-emailing our viewpoints to Congress ain't yer cup o' tea, but it's simply another way to spread the word of our dissatisfaction with the Leftist direction this President has unfortunately chosen to pursue on far too many issues. Trying to influence the hearts and minds of fellow FReepers is all fine and dandy, but sometimes it's necessary to make the decision-makers aware of our views, even if they ain't our particular representatives.

IMHO, of course...MUD

"they come for the work"

I also believe that many come for the work, but it might be interesting to see how many actually stayed if the services they recieve now, and certainly the ones which will be provided to them if they choose to register, would stay if those services were not available until citizenship. One person working to support a large family seems to be a liability rather than an asset(just as it is with our citizens who have learned to work it for years at a stretch).

Only the corporations win. The goal is to supress the wages in the USA. It will not be wages of the menial jobs either all levels will be affected. Hi-tech jobs have been taking this beating for the last 10 years......So when will your job be next.

FYI: Rasmussen's instant poll (1/8/04) placed Republican support for the plan at approximately 60% -- many still undecided!

Today's FoxNews/Opinion Dynamics Poll (1/7-8/04), taken AFTER the President's speech, records an INCREASE in the President's job approval rating from +18 in December to +27 now. The President's likability rating is at +42! [NOTE: The President's job approval rating among Republicans remained the same at 86% approval!]

If you'd like to better inform yourselves about the President's PROPOSAL (note this was NOT an executive order OR even a formal legislative mandate), I invite you to visit the following website:

They are already here!

Man, are you dense!

Tell me...how do you find, arrest, try, and deport ten millio people who are intricately woven into our society without violating every civil, constitutional, and human right known to man?

Let's hear your brilliant solution.
