Email/Letter writing campaign against The President's plan for immigration
Myself

Posted on 01/07/2004 7:45:17 PM PST by Remember_Salamis

Has anybody started an email/letter writing campaign in response to the president's proposed immigration initiative?

We need to show the president that he can't take advantage of his conservative base.

Good for you. The President needs to know that the common folks support him. I always recommend a hand written note as well.

When the leaders of Spain and Poland went over and visited their troops in Iraq last month, and reaffirmed their commitment to our joint efforts, I sent notes of thanks through their embassies. I got a very nice response for the Spanish Ambassador last week.

E-mails are fine but I do believe the hand written notes and letter gives it more of a personal touch.

I have not been posting for awhile but read FR all the time and I am riled over W doing this. I have written to my Republican Senators and my Republican Congressman and also called all 3 offices. I am very opposed to this whole stance and this has been my problem with W all along and on every other issue I back him BUT this is one DUMB idea!

Too bad the rest of Americans lose.

Apparently we are part of the few who understand the legislative process involved here.

I have written 5 letters in the last 3 months to President about some of his domestic agenda and so far I have never received a reply. Not even a generic "form letter" like most politicians send.

Heck, when I sent Rick Perry an e-mail about in 2001 I got a personal letter back about a month later. While he didn't agree with me, I was amazed that someone took time to answer everything I said in the e-mail.

Since they obviously don't care about the 15% on the far right and trust that the "compassionate" conservatives have no where else to go it makes more sense to me to let them know with your vote.

There are many others in Congress who are willing to fight for the average American. They are few and far between though. Jo Ann Emerson comes to mind from my state of Missouri, 8th District. Her record is solid in this area. There is a good website that has a bunch of info on voting records of everyone in Washington, its www.numbersusa.com . It is a great source to see how your Reps. and Senators are voting on immigration issues.

Not really. FP is a cross segment on American Conservatism to an extent...but it also tends to grossly magnify some of the vocal minorities simply because of their prolific posting and networking.

LOL! Otherwise buchanan and browne would be co-presidents now.

Hello, New Freeper. Get a grip. Your post makes normal people think of us as cold-hearted....it's a good thing that Bush is trying to do. He is a compassionate conservative...yes CONSERVATIVE. He is also the President of ALL the people in the US....not just us right-wingers.

I'd much rather direct my efforts toward a letter writing campaign to support the President's re-election. All your efforts will do is give encouragement to folks like Howard Dean and Hillary clinton.

This whole mess is a crappy situation that's been allowed to fester for years. The President is looking long term and is at least making a start. There are 8 million illegals here and nothing is going to make them disappear...this will work at putting some order into the chaos.

I agree and have written a letter to the President to be mailed tomorrow. It should have been done years and years ago.

No kidding. I lived in Europe for several years and am returning for another three or four years soon. The problems with the soaring Muslim populations there are scary.

I've sent email, letters, telephone calls to my senator and congressmen.. guess what? NOT ONE REPLY.. not a one. And I might add, these are men that I have worked for during campaigns.. and I am on their mailing lists.. not another dime or minutes work for any of them...

I know what you are saying, I just weary of some of the endless handwringing that goes on, rather than trying to find a solution to the problem.

Please let the White House know of your support and/or reservations. It's important that the President know that he isn't alone.

That man inherited a nation with many problems and a lot of handicaps right from the start. Then 9/11 came along and made the job even harder. To top if off, he has a GOP majority that doesn't seem to know how to act as the majority...while the democrats learned how to be the minority very quickly.

He's got a lot on his plate and is doing a pretty damned good job all things considered. On the war on terror side of the house he has the support of a lot of loyal men and women in uniform shouldering a share of the burden...and they do their duty to a President they respect and admire.

On the domestic side he's doing a pretty decent job despite his critics. But he can't do it alone, so just like the folks in uniform we need to shoulder some of the domestic burder with him as well.

Let him know that he's not in this alone. Send him a note.

Really? Where do you live? I get replies and Christmas cards, too, from all my reps, both state and federal as well as from the White House and I'm a nobody.
