Email/Letter writing campaign against The President's plan for immigration
Myself

Has anybody started an email/letter writing campaign in response to the president's proposed immigration initiative?
We need to show the president that he can't take advantage of his conservative base.

It looks like he's having to count on massive election fraud with non-citizens voting in a national election --- for him so he can win. It's not important anymore to get the vote of citizens.

Honestly, because I know you're an honest man ... did you vote for Bush in 2000?

The card is NOTHING.But how many millions is proposing to hand this NOTHING card to? I realize the card is nothing --- it does nothing to stop illegals who don't wish to sit and wait for the government to process their paperwork. The green cards are often sold --- by the ones who hold them, they take the cash --- sometimes just because they needed spending money and report them stolen so they can get a replacement. There are an awful lot of illegals who didn't bother obtaining documents of Americans --- they're carrying green cards with someone else's name on them. The same thing will go on with the blue cards --- it might be even worse.

I voted for Keyes in the primary and Bush in the election --- but with reservations --- I thought it was important that Gore not win.

I can ASSURE you, without knowing, that an integral part of this process is to secure the identification cards that resident foreigners carry. I'll bet their "swipable" into a number of interlaced data bases. Perhaps with some biometric authorization process.
Can it get worse than now? NO. You guys have been ragging for three years about the status quo. Well, that's now in play. So .. if you oppose this solution, you better have a better alternative than "Seal the Borders. Arrest and Deport the Illegals." That's no longer a valid opening ante in this game.

Twilight zone? Are you claiming Bush isn't trying hard to get the vote of the citizens of Mexico in this next election? You yourself now say the votes of Americans who don't like this amnesty or blue card or whatever no longer matters. He's going to win big just by doing this.

Are you claiming Bush isn't trying hard to get the vote of the citizens of Mexico in this next election? How in the blue bloody hell is he going to get the "citizens of Mexico" vote. Look I can't say what I want to say because of the moderator's wish for civility but damn.
To: ArneFufkin
Nope --- I've said don't do a mass round-up but don't hand out legalization either. I can't imagine what Bush intends to do to those illegals who come over now and don't bother with his blue cards --- and don't think they won't ---- some just don't like filling out papers, some don't read and write at all and are not going to bother with the process, some aren't going to sit around and wait for the government to find them a job. They'll come here the old-fashioned way and they'll find employers who don't want to bother with the "job benefits" and wages that Bush mentioned. So does Bush now send the Homeland Security guys knocking down our doors looking for illegals who may or may not be there? Does he set up road blocks? The border is still 2000 miles and as we've all heard a million times --- it cannot possibly be closed --- and a fence would be too much work.
To me --- it would have been better to leave them illegal ---- go after those who should be easy --- those presenting stolen SS numbers and committing other crimes --- but a round up? That was never me.

The ones who show up at the polls here on election day. The democrats are after that vote too --- obviously there is a lot of politics being played for these votes. If not --- what the American people thought about the issue would matter.

Perhaps with some biometric authorization process. I almost won't blame the illegals for bypassing this process --- and there are illegals who didn't run out and get the matricula card --- for some being undocumented sounds safer than being documented --- but I imagine that's even more true of those with something that would show up on a background check. Some illegals don't trust government --- they had good reason not to trust it as all where they're from.

E-mails are fine but I do believe the hand written notes and letter gives it more of a personal touch.Well, isn't that special?
You better brush up on your Spanish because it'll be the official language before long, thanks to Bush.

I would implore you to have a little faith. Bush takes our domstic security and war against "invaders" every bit as seriously as he does our war against the Terror slime in Iraq, Afghanistan and Indonesia.
His overtures to Fox are a realistic assessment that a strong, resolute and honest partner governing in the halls of Mexico City are exponentially more important in stemming this illegal surge than are 10,000, hell 100,000, gun toting American Patrol cowboys or DHS Border cops meandering through the Sonora Desert. We need Vincente, he gives us more support than he can show publicly (just like all Bush's foreign leadership partners worldwide), and Bush is meeting with him in Mexico to prop Fox' political foundation. So he can attack the problem on HIS side.
You guys take Fox's every utterance as a perilous threat. He's playing to HIS extreme political constituencies, and Bush lets him be the independent, strong and Mexican first leader he NEEDS to be to survive. Not just politically .... mortally! Fox is a Bush ally. An American ally. Make no mistake about that. We need him as a powerful steward in that country. There's no other way he can attack the corrupt north state Federales who are facilitating this "invasion" into our territory.
I will never fathom how anyone of good will and motivation here can view George W. Bush and accept that he would jeopardize our economy, security and soverignity in any way. It's not a good faith analysis of the situation at hand.
That's why I'm quick to sour on these threads.

I am going to give you a serious answer on how Bush is going to win. The Democrats have allowed the fringe left to set their agenda. As a result, every person with 2 brain cells has abandoned them. They are losing the Jewish vote, a large portion of the black and Hispanic vote and are losing independents 3 to 1. The GOP wrote off the far right in 1996. That so-called "base" was both non-existent it was an opposition party. The GOP has more than replaced the far right and single issue "conservatives" with a real "base" of traditional GOP conservatives and center right GOP moderates. This has been going on for over a decade and 911 caused a political earthquake that will be seen for a generation. The first example of that was in California. A moderate Republican won a landside victory DESPITE a "red meat conservative" and a flaming liberal. The California "conservatives" due to their "my way or the Hi-way" are now on the Hi-way. They have NO influence and that is now the fate of the unappeasable nationwide. They are as irrelevant as the pitiful democrats that are on the verge of nominating the idiot doctor of Vermont.
The real conservatives are still a powerful force in the GOP but the "my way or hi-way" fringe have been left in the dust. It will not take "massive voter fraud" for the GOP to win in 2004 it will just be an inevitable result of the far left and far right's self imposed mass suicide.
To: ArneFufkin
Well --- I'm not sure that strategy will work --- the July elections didn't look good for Fox's party ---- maybe the Mexicans aren't being swayed by all this amnesty in American crap --- and would really like to see some improvements at home. I honestly don't believe that Mexicans would be coming here by the millions if they had any hopes that Fox was doing anything in that country. An awful lot of the illegals would stay home in a heartbeat --- they're more tied to their land and state of birth than we are to ours.

I think some of the Jewish vote has switched --- but I'm really not sure there have been the massive conversions of the Clinton-Gore voters to the other side. I personally have not met one --- and this hispanic area I'm in is mostly democrat. The Democrats figured the Green fringe didn't matter either --- but that cost them the election --- Nader votes made a difference.
Also I live in an area that very strong supported Silvestre Reyes for his stance on the border and his willingness not to back down to complaints by the Mexican government.

Just yesterday, I read in El-Universal that Fox is going to tell Bush just what Mexico needs. Fox was also quoted as saying he would be working with the Republican lawmakers and
Democrat lawmakers. If you recall last summer, Clinton, Pelosi, Gephart and other Democrats were in Mexico meeting with Fox.
The question is, who will Fox support? If Bush gets this amnesty and Fox doesn't back him for re-election, he is a dead duck for sure. The hispanics on this border vote the way they are told to vote. As a matter of fact, do you know of an area where there is a large hispanic vote that is Republican?

An awful lot of the illegals would stay home in a heartbeat --- they're more tied to their land and state of birth than we are to ours. Absolutely! Mexicans LIKE being Mexicans, if they can feed, educate and provide lives of health and well being for their children. Who wouldn't? They've got a nice foundation of faith, family, community and life perspective that Americans could learn something from. They're oppressed, and Fox is NOT exporting them here. That's bullcrap ... Bush would not be working with the guy if that was the case. He's there to SALVAGE Vincente before this election, he's a guy W can forge a new world with.
But, Mexico was an organized crime syndicate for many, many years, and that takes time and smart patience to crack.
Mexico is our second largest trading partner. WE have hundreds of thousands of Americans working there on visas. MILLIONS of Americans who visit there annually.
I'm like Admiral Stockdale ... "out of bullets" on this issue. I'm supporting the President's initiative, until and unless a better one comes along.
Regards!
To: FITZ
You do not need a massive shift. 5 to 10% in any group is enough for a landslide. That has happened and there is nothing the democrats are doing to rectify it. In fact, God love 'em, they are digging the hole deeper every day.
To: ArneFufkin
The other problem we're seeing ---- is that as more and more people leave Mexico --- the country is becoming more unstable --- you don't build stability when your citizens are fleeing by the millions --- that means they aren't staying around to invest, they aren't trying to build up the schools, they're just busy packing their bags --- if they're young and able bodies. Otherwise they'll sit and wait for the monthly check to come in from the USA --- and it's becoming more and more like the inner city --- the would be middle class, the smarter, harder working ones leave --- and what's left is nothing to build up a country with.
This is another reason I think this is terrible policy and Mexico should work on keeping it's people --- Fox doesn't seem to realize that.
