[history]
Tuesday evening Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger gave Californians the bold vision the state needs. In his first State-of-the-State address, he firmly came out against new taxes; made a compelling case for deep cuts in the state budget to end what he said was a projected $15 billion deficit for fiscal year 2004-05, which begins July 1; and spoke with the kind of optimism that resounds with the people of this state.

The hard part now will be to get the Legislature to recognize that its own extreme spending was the problem and must be cut back. Yes!

Fat chance. The Democrats would sooner drink cyanide than cut spending and slash taxes.

Too bad he's reluctant to go on and rescind the constitutionally tainted $42 billion energy contracts as McClintock had promised.
Here he's been in office almost two months, the deficit is still huge, some of his appointees are even suggesting MORE spending --
and the $42 billion contracts remain untouched....

I propose for Arnold to arrange for Dr. Laffer to put on a seminar.
All members of state legislature invited. Free lunches and parking.
Laffer Curve advocacy. True believers included John Kennedy, Ronald Reagan (and I suspect GWB).

The OC Register was saying something about how Arnold was a big disappointment and was giving in to the Democrats just a couple of weeks ago. Nice to see it change its tune.
