What? Are you also having a problem finding work? In my early career, I found jobs by hitting the pavement and moving and upgrading my skills. Maybe you should get a clue and try same instead of blaming every Pedro Juan and Miguel.

What are you talking about?

If you don't think adding millions of Third World workers to the labor pool depresses wages for everyone, you just don't understand economics

Instead, you smugly blame individuals for what are systemic problems caused by deliberate policies of the multinational corporations.

I assure you that they understand economics very well

Put more simply, if you had to vote in the 2000 election now, would you vote for Bush or Gore?

Honestly? Knowing what I do now, I'd have stayed home.

Neither bondage nor indentured servitude.

But taking advantage of desperate people is pretty close to the same thing. That is what's happening. I do feel sorry for these people.

He won with 537 votes last time, that won't happen again

That's not true either! His margin was much higher before the dems found so many "they must have meant to vote for Gore votes!" Sheesh!

If we legalize and regulate millions of immigrants that are currently on the outside edge of "legal", won't it make it harder to identify illegals who do not go through any sort of process at all?

No...it will free up the INS backlogs so they can concentrate on finding those who do not apply for the guest worker program by the deadline. It will create a database of those who apply in case they break the law in the future. Those that apply for this program would not be criminals or welfare recipients as those people would automatically be ineligible based on the requirements.

**Will the last American out of California please bring the flag!! **

California is not the only state that has illegal aliens.

Precisely the dilemma. How does this HELP voter fraud with non-citizens? It doesn't. I guess I'm looking for solutions to existing problems, not creating new problems to be solved later.

Get real sinkspur. I never said the President shoulda, coulda or woulda, drag 10 million illegal aliens across any border. But if you think rewarding these illegal aliens with temporary worker visas, that will evetually lead to a backdoor avenue to American citizenship, then you do support amnesty and open borders. Because thats exactly what is going to happen in the long run. I posted the points contained in the legislation that PresReagan used to grant illegal aliens amnesty back in the mid-1980`s. This policy decision by PresBush today, looks like an instant replay.

That would be immigrants who, for the most part, were LEGAL immigrants and who desired to become part of America, learning the language, assimilating into the culture and willing to give their loyalty to America. Legal immigrants came here with no demands on the government to provide services.

I've already weighed in heavily on this topic before so I'll limit myself right now to the observation that one of the least effective arguments I keep hearing against some sort of immigration reform is that it will reward illegal behavior. Well, that is exactly what happened when we (FINALLY) raised the national speed limit from 55 mph; we rewarded the illegal behavior of most people on the highway who were exceeding the speed limit. The IMHO sounder argument to the contrary was (and is) that a law that is being ignored by too many people to ever enforce is not doing any good and is in fact doing harm by reducing respect for the rule of law. It was argued that doing so would just encourage more illegal activity, and this turned out to be partly true. There are in fact maniacs out there driving 80+. However, by reducing the number of lawbreakers, cops were freed up (in those places that had the intelligence to raise the limits of course) to concentrate on the truly reckless speeders. The same thing will happen here IF we put together reforms that will provide LEGAL avenues for more would-be legal workers, immigrants, and even citizens. What is needed here is less shouting and more thinking.

True, but it will be the first to be overrun.

"By forcing them to register, they become temporary workers instead of illegal immigrants."

And as soon as employers see that they have to pay them a higher wage they'll simply continue hiring illegals off the books.

He also said that workers who violate the law will be returned to their home country and will never be permitted to re-enter.

And being the law-abiding aliens they are, I'm sure they'll comply. < / sarcasm>

Great. So now we get another 3 million illegal aliens to go along with our newly legitimized 9 million guest workers.

But we can fix that. We just have to legalize the new illegals in due course.

If you don't like Bush's plan, write your Congressman and tell him to vote against it.

You mean like Sheila Jackson Lee? She was just on FNC and seemed to think it was a good start.
