Well, at least one poster on this thread thinks none of us whose Grandparents came through Ellis Island should be here; it was all just a nefarious plot by business interests to abuse then-American workers.

**I read that the first time. My reading comprehension skills are quite up to snuff, thanks. I think you meant "vitriol", by the way. Or perhaps vitrOLÉ? **
I didn't know you picked up on it the first time. I'm not a mind reader. :o)
Thank you for the spelling lesson. Ever make a mistake?

I sat through the whole speech and am still trying to make some lemonade out of the lemon that just dropped in our basket.
Unfortunately, I can't even get to the "l" in "lemonade".

End the Great Society welfare state and watch those jobs get filled by Americans, with the concurrent benefit of reducing government expenditures, and actually increasing tax revenues. Of course. ....But the problem is that the welfare state isn't going anywhere anytime soon, if ever.

Pal, if someone offered me enough dough to pick their fruit, I'd chuck this keyboard and put on my overalls. Ain't no job Americans won't do.
Well, I think we can assume that the growers will be supportive of the plan and it looks like the United Farm Workers of America will probably be supportive.
What economic interests with political clout will oppose it?

Should I make escape plans to move north now?At this rate, I may join you. At least in Canada we know what kind of foolishness we're dealing with, as opposed to being stabbed in the back.

Brett Schundler? You sure that's not Luke Wilson?

Unfortunately, it is true...about the jobs. But this proposal makes companies prove that they can't find Americans to do those jobs. Is that ok to you?

Yeah, probably. I don't believe in logical relativism anyway. Got to draw the line somewhere.

Hard work never hurt anyone. But why work hard if the government gives you a check to sit on your ass? Then why don't coal miners and garbage men work so hard when they can get a welfare check?
I guess being a coal miner or garbage man is not as hard a job as picking fruit.

My work product is knowledge, and an unskilled worker could simply not step into my shoes without years of education and experience.

Employers must make good effort to look in America first Bush actually said that? Man, what a joke.
Almost as big a joke as the "procedures" will be to "ensure" the "effort".
