Bush to Give Illegals SS Benefits January 06 2004 03:29:00 PM EST

President Bush is set to present his immigration proposal Wednesday. WASHINGTON, Jan 06, 2004 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- President Bush wants to let some of the eight million illegal aliens in the United States move toward legal status without penalty -- but with benefits. His proposals, part of a sweeping change in U.S. immigration policy, will be revealed Wednesday, the Washington Times reported.

Bush will propose that illegal aliens from Mexico, and possibly other countries, who pay U.S. Social Security taxes, but provide false identification numbers, be allowed to collect benefits.

"The president has long talked about the importance of having an immigration policy that matches willing workers with willing employers," said White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan Monday.

The plan is expected to be opposed by Republicans on Capitol Hill, but it will be embraced by Mexican President Vicente Fox when he meets Bush during a Jan. 12-14 meeting in Monterrey, Mexico.

The changes have long been advocated by Fox, whose close relationship with Bush has been strained since border security efforts were beefed up after the Sept. 11 attacks and since Mexico refused to support the U.S.-led war in Iraq.

Fox said the plan would allow Mexicans "to go and come each year as many times as they want, without problems, so that they can work with documents in the United States."

The type of immigration enforcement we is is the "Walmart" legal type.. Any company or individual who hires an illegal, not here on work papers, should pay a HUGE fine or do a perp walk before incarcaration.

It is all about money and benefits.. if there is no good reason to come to the US.. there will not be the problem.. If the US Congress wants to vote for temporary "work permits", I have no objection.. but granting Federal SSI rights makes me vomit..

Bush, this is not the route you should go if you want to be re-elected. I might just stay home on election day!

There is still a huge difference between us and them, and most conservatives will still be voting for Bush, who has shown greatness in so many ways. He just needs to be made aware of his folly in this issue.

I have to assume that Presidente Fox actually has pictures of Bush at his last coke party. That is the only thing that makes Bush's action here, rational.

Sadly, that is indeed the only motivation I can see here.

"The problem is this folks: we need to win this election. At all costs. "

Lots of people feel the same. However, I'm still looking for the difference between the two major parties. This doesn't help me see the difference.

We need to make sure "the proposal" does not get beyond just that. This is sheer insanity.

Pure insanity. But it is in line with his avowed "Century of the America's" policies that he detailed before the election.

In quite a few domestic and social issues he's taking the wind away fromn the Democrats by doing the very things they would do. Perhaps that is astute politics...but on these issues it is also unAmereican and very damaging to the heart and soul of this Republic IMHO.

We are about immigrants...people who want to come here, be Americans, and be a part of contributing to America and doing it legally. Rewarding illegal activities in this manner is a big mistake as regards our soveriegnty and ability to safeguard the very culture that made our shores desirable in the first place.

This will have the effect of swinging the doors wide open. Many, many more will come illegally figuring that sooner or later they will get similar dispensations. Ultimately, it will have the effect of creating no borders...again back to his "Century of the America's".

I agree with you, this is wrong.....but every dollar now paid in, like yesterdays money, today's money, etc, is rolled over right now to pay for peeps currently drawing a check...You will never see one dollar you paid into SS. Never. The money you pay in on this fridays paycheck, is gone on Monday. There is no "lock-box" as was touted years ago.....no SS savings account at all actually.

Easy, we'll keep on fighting the War on Terrorism.

Folks, we can't have everything at once. It just won't happen. We need to take the long-term view of this.

I'm for kicking all of the illegals out and putting troops on the border.

I'm for official English, English-only elections. Hell, I'm for literacy tests, so let's not accuse me of loving illegal immigration.

But first- people misunderstand the scope of the proposals- especially those that will actually be passed by the Congress in the end. In fact, I doubt if very much at all of this will, in the end, become law. The real goal here is to keep the Hispanics in check.

After all, demography is destiny. We can't win if the Hispanics start voting like the blacks. We won't ever win. So we need to bring them inside.

This election offers a chance to really smash the Democratic Party once and for all. That's the real goal this year- we need to smash and shatter them.

We can't do that if we pointlessly divide ourselves.

"Personally, Bush really chaps me on immigration issues. But what am I gonna do, vote Losertarian?"

Won't do you any good on this issue. The Libertarian platform calls for looser borders. However, their platform also calls for far, far smaller government than Bush would ever consider. If he succeeds in giving illegals access to Social Security my vote will be cemented with the Libertarian Party.

My primary reason for voting for Bush at this point would be to keep a Democrat out. But, the way he is proceeding on this issue and immigration are taxing my conscience beyond the point where I could vote for him and still sleep at night.

You do pay into a system at a rate of about 14% (the employer paying half is just an illusion) . Yes, the money is immediately confiscated for the general fund and spent, but the Federales are with-holding additional money from your paycheck, and, presumably, from the illegals.

I'm against illegals, amnesty, etc. I think a minefield across the southern border is great idea. All I'm doing is pointing out the arguement the "pros" are going to make.

The US govt. and Mexico are plotting the future: one big country in this hemisphere, no borders and who cares what the countries in South America want. They're too poor to object. NAFTA, free trade zone, was the elephant's nose under the tent. Mexico sees us a big sucker, again, and will take back the Southwest. At some point in the not too distant future, they will have populated every state in the union. And since Anglos aren't having as many kids, we will be a minority. There go our sovereignty, culture, rights. Poof. Welcome to the brave new world. (If the Muslims don't get us first.) Sorry for the rant, but this is what I really believe.

I don't want everything all at once. However, I DO want Bush to stop this kind of crap. We don't have it right now, we don't need him to propose it, we don't need Congress to pass it!

I understand we can't get everything we want, but we don't need this!!!

Look, in the short-term we need to take some of the Democrats issues in order to win. Democrats who, in 2000, said 'both parties are the same' and voted for Ralph Nader helped elected George W. Bush. Ditto Republicans who voted for Ross Perot in 1992 which, of course, gave us Clinton.

Governing cannot be done, at least for now, with ideological purity.

Here is the goal we must have in mind. Win this election by an overwhelming margin, sweep the Democrats from the table, and then launch a coup within the GOP.

The thing restricting the adoption of more conservative policies is the need to win.

Look, I'm all for kicking the bastards the hell out. But that won't fly at election time. The people who will vote on that issue in the affirmative are grossly outnumbered by those who will vote in the negative.

...just so anybody out there is clear as to what I meant:

"willing liars" = transgressors of federal law who violate borders, i.e. illegal aliens [being matched with] "willing scumbags" = other violators of federal law who hire these liars for illegal work and break the law themselves and to serve as the 'magnet pull' for even more and more to come into America over and above the 8-10 million??? already here without authorization. Jeez, by 2013, there will be 20 million.

Will anyone be able to recognize our country or even stomach it anymore?
