[history]
Despite a year of constant combat casualties and long, grinding overseas tours, men and women in uniform strongly back President Bush and his policies in Iraq, according to a Military Times Poll. But the poll indicates support for administration policy in Iraq is not much higher in the military than among U.S. civilians. Both military members and civilians, poll results show, are more likely to voice approval for the president

The military group is solidly in Bushs corner, supporting the president more strongly than the nation as a whole. Two-thirds of respondents said they approved of the presidents job performance. Similar polls of the public before Saddams capture found Bushs approval rating hovering around 50 percent.

So, those whose lives are on the line because of policies of the Administration, those on the ground who actually see what goes on in Iraq on a daily basis...these support the President more than those whose lives are not on the line, who are not on the scene to see that policy in action. That speaks volumns.

I think the most important thing to do in the up coming election, is to make sure all of the absentee ballots from our military people are sent and postmarked correctly. Lets not go through the BullCrap we went through in 2000.
Ive already sent a letter to my Congressman. I think this needs to be brought to light and not overlooked or taken for granted.

I agree. Like my2cents says above....'if the one's doing the fighting and carrying the load are his biggest supporters, then what matters those who complain' (paraphasing m2c very liberally)

Ok, whose gonna break this to Czar Wesley?
To: gov_bean_ counter
Would love to be the one to break it to Weasley Clark -- his commercials about Iraq are about the most irritating/disgusting ones I have watched and they are on here in OK all the time at night. I have quit watching my local news because of his commercials popping up.

The country and the military profession are best served by an officer corps that is apolitical No, the country is best served by political parties who are interested in what's best for America. If we had two such political parties, we would expect the distribution of party affiliation to be more even.
What makes the proliferation of Republican in the military even more striking is that the population that the military is drawn from -- minorities and the non-rich -- usually leans Democratic.

Four of five respondents, and almost two out of three minorities, said minorities receive better treatment in the military than society at large. A pro-Bush military is less racist than the pro-DNC culture. (That's my take and I'm sticking to it. *g*)

When you may give your life based on what the Commander in Chief ultimately decides, and has, it DOES matter who he is.
Thank God we have a Commander in Chief that the overwhelming majority of our troops love and respect.
Considering what President Bush inherited, and how well he and his administration has handled it, I'd say our Troops "get it".
I'd say our President "gets it" too.
It really isn't about HIM, it's about THEM!!
He isn't out there trying to take all the credit for what THEY are doing, he gives all credit to THEM. They are the ones doing the the hardest work. Though I'd sure not want our Presidents job!
I think that's what REALLY scares the crap out of the Dems. This President has NEVER been one to take credit for what OTHERS do. In fact, even when he truly deserves credit, he is more than happy to give it to someone else.
His humility is inspiring.
God willing he'll be our President again. Lets hope so,.. for the sake of our troops. They deserve no less considering their sacrifices.
