IMPORTANT NOTICE

Jim Robinson has received notice for the legal firm representing the USO.
They are demanding that Free Republic discontinue using "USO" or "USO Canteen"
on Free Republic and remove all references to the "USO" trademark, logos, etc, from Free Republic.

I have been in touch with Jim and this is what we have come up with.

"Free Republic Canteen" is acceptable.
"FReeper Canteen" in the title of the thread and "FR Canteen" in the small graphics and banners.

Nothing has changed with the the Canteen EXCEPT for the "new graphics"
AND we can now "discuss" politics.
As you recall the USO forbids political discussions.

I do ask that we keep the politics to a minimum since the purpose of the FR Canteen is:

Showing support and boosting the morale of
our military and our allies military
and the family members of the above.
Honoring those who have served before.

If it's true, a simple answer might have been that the USO did give permission and it has since been rescinded. Who are you saying dislikes President Bush, me, Sam, the USO? Be clear.

If you had been in the Canteen since Day 1 you would know of the attacks on the Commander-in-Chief.

So what does this have to do with the USO? You are not being clear.

People now are considering not contributing to the USO and I don't want to see that.

The USO really does support our troops and I hate to see people get the wrong idea about them as an organization who does good things for our troops.

I don't know about you, but I was only told by one person that permission was given and at the time I never doubted it.

If they changed they mind, it'd be nice to know the reason. If they didn't give permission, it's not fair to have people slamming the USO no becuase the name was used without authorization..

Now that's the point I was trying to make. People are starting to slam or be concerned about the USO and that's not right. I think it should be clear why they don't want their name used anymore.

It does matter what it was called because if it was unauthorized it looks bad.
