Help Block The Rove Amnesty Plan In Congress, Contact These Congressmen
Pubbie | 1/04/04 | Pubbie

Fellow Freepers, we need to try to block the Bush Amnesty Proposal that is being prepared to be released on Wednesday, by Freeping the GOP members of the House Judiciary Committee:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A52647-2004Jan3.html

The gist of the Washington Post story is that Bush will propose 3 major components on Wednesday:

1) Give an amnesty to an unspecified amount of Illegal Aliens (Probably a little less than 500,000 people.)

2) Give some sort of Social Security benefits to Illegal Aliens.

3) Create some sort of Guest Worker program.

I believe that if we put enough grass roots pressure on the GOP House Judiciary Committee members (who are listed below) we can have parts 1 and 2 completely removed from any bill in the House, and have part 3 considerably watered down if a large amount of us protest by Phoning/Faxing/E-Mailing the GOP members of the House Judiciary Committee and demanding that they reject the Amnesty (Below is a list of how to contact all members of the GOP House Judiciary Committee memebers).

Now the Buchananites here on FR will no doubt say "The GOP doesn't listen to us/There is no difference between the two parties/ blah blah blah...". But they are wrong, there is considerable opposition within the House GOP to any amnesty for Illegal immigrants.

In August 2001 the House GOP was ready to rebel against the President and kill off the original Bush Amnesty proposal, until the 911 attacks buried the plan.

All GOP politicians (With the apparent exception of Bush and Rove) know very well that illegal immigrants won't vote for Republicans.

Think about it, all politicians absolutely MUST know who is and isn't going to vote for them.

The GOP has studied the 2000 and 2002 Election Exit polls in excruciating detail, and there is no evidence whatsoever that the GOP got any headway in the Latino vote in 2002. Furthermore polls show that no headway will be made by the GOP in the 2004 election.

That is why a number of major Republican politicians in November and December of 2003 have publicly said that there was major hostility to any Amnesty program within Congress.

For Example:

* Texas Governor Rick Perry said (during a meeting with Vicente Fox no less) that there was no support for any sort of Amnesty for Illegal Immigrants in Congress.

* Arizona Senator John Kyl said the McCain/Kolbe Amnesty bill, and other Illegal Immigrant bills, would be impossible to pass in 2004.

* Texas Congressman Lamar Smith (Who sits on the Judiciary Committee) said after the Ridge Trial balloon for Amnesty to all Illegal Immigrants:

"I don't see a substantial change in immigration policy in an election year," said Rep. Lamar Smith, R-San Antonio, a House immigration subcommittee member who has expressed concern that an amnesty program for illegal immigrants could harm national security."

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dallas/nation/stories/121203dnnatimmigration.76a1.html

* And Finally Tom Tancredo said in the same article:

"We have enough support on our side to stop them from liberalizing immigration law," said Mr. Tancredo, R" Colo. "And on the other hand, I don't think I have enough [support] to advance our agenda. So, that's why I think we are sort of at loggerheads."

What we Freepers need to do is, instead of voting for the Constitution Party:

1) Phone up the below members of the GOP House Judiciary Committee Members (Who are all listed below) to complain about this Amnesty plan and tell them not to pass it.

2) Fax these Congressmen to tell them to reject the plan.

3) Email these Congressmen to reject an amnesty.

If enough of us complain, it will help block the major portions of the White House's plan in the House where most Republican Congressmen are already very leary of an Amnesty plan.

PS: In your letters/phone calls/E-mails to the below Congressmen, do NOT use any vulgarity.

Regards,

Pubbie

actually, the title of the thread isn't the same as the WP title, which is pretty benign:

Bush to Seek Immigrant Benefit Protection >>>>>>>

Guess, 'pubbie' didn't want this thread confused with another thread, & to get the 'critters' addresses on-board.

There was a thread "Bush to Seek Immigrant Protection" earlier, but it was sent to 'the backroom' after the 'flamers' invaded it.

You haven't read it.

No one has.

I've followed the discussion surrounding the proposed Social Security normalization treaty with Mexico, that's been going on for quite some time, and those treaties have been commonplace for three decades.

But you lied when you claimed that you read the proposal on the legalization of mestizos.

It's obvious.

Tancredo is a nut. No one listens to him.

I think he has about sixty members of the house in the immigration reform caucus listening to him!

Not too bad for a nut, huh?

Actually the article merely triggered an on-going debate. This issue dates back for some time. For me it dates to the 1986 amnesty. We thought it would work. It did not. More than ever came ILLEGALLY. Most posters know the history.

I am well aware that amnesty is said to be not in the works. But I oppose almost ALL forms of legalizing the ILLEGALS from ALL countries.

Nevertheless amnesty has been on the table. For example, as others have noted in these threads there is the matter of the 245i amnesty. It failed due to the public outcry. We are again merely exercising our responsibilities. People called us names then also. Big deal. Here is just one link to that 2002 story.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0%2C2933%2C47758%2C00.html

I am well aware how much Hispanics have contributed as Americans including the numerous winners of the Medal of Honor.

My wife is Latina and now an American. We married in Madrid where I lived and met her. We played by the rules. She knows a few ILLEGALS, mostly from South America, who are dear friends of hers, working and contributing here. She has also met ILLEGALS who think that we are fools and they delight in getting away with all they can. She is sad for her friends that this is happening but agrees that it is a real problem. I say enough is enough.

And if more of these illegal aliens are allowed to settle here permanently, they eventually will open up their own businesses but will have a hard time finding people willing to work in their culturally different work environment. The point is to avoid their settling here and we would not be having this discussion tonight.

That sounds like you don't want them here in any way, shape, or form.

What the hell is a "culturally different work environment?"

"the very idea is actually laughable since by their very nature, illegal aliens who worked in the US can't actually prove that they paid into the SSA."

A lot of things related to immigration are laughable, yet most politicians seem to not be laughing.

Just because they can't prove anything doesn't mean anything, the Mexican government will ask anyway, and might even get its way. See, for instance, the previous amnesty's farm worker requirement which required little or no proof of having been a farm worker.

There are native born Americans in this country that feel the exact same way.

A significant percentage just overstay their visa. Not all of them come across the desert.

"Just because they can't prove anything doesn't mean anything"

Please, don't take me for a fool.

Of course there are guidelines, and proof MUST be offered before qualifying for payment.

"What the hell is a "culturally different work environment?"

I frequent a couple of El Pollo Locos in L.A. At one, everyone who works there is Hispanic. They speak Spanish except to some of the customers. At another EPL, one of the guys I saw working there once was Armenian. However, he spoke Spanish. Does that qualify?

That'd be nice. Unfortunately, it would be racist (not to mention mean-spirited) to ask for proof. Therefore, we must play by Vicente's rules, and, if this plan become reality, little proof would be required.

Totally agree with post #9. Whatever happened to the good old idyllic days when hard-working immigrants sat patiently in line with their papers and went through the hoops?

Then when it was all done they were so proud to be Americans....

Yeah, back in the late 1800s and early 20th Century. When men were men and women were women. Taking all their possessions and crossing the pond in their rickety boat. Hard-scrabble, down on their luck, coming to America with their bare hands making the finest products of the world.

Bush is totally destroying the basic concepts of immigration as we know it with his plan. If this passes, I for one will definetly sign up and become a dues-paying Constitution Party member.
