US relief package for illegal immigrants to be unveiled Wednesday
Hindustan Times ^ | Washington, January 4

Posted on 01/04/2004 1:08:59 PM PST by DeaconBenjamin

US President George W Bush is expected to unveil some protection and relief to an estimated eight million illegal immigrants or undocumented workers in the US.

Officials said that the Bush plan to be unveiled on Wednesday would contain a new system to help workers who want to enter from Mexico or other countries if they have jobs waiting for them in the US.

It would also include a mechanism for some undocumented residents to continue working in the US and get on a path to legal status.

Undocumented workers now pay billions of dollars annually into Social Security but do not collect benefits because they give their employers fraudulent Social Security numbers.

The Bush plan would propose protections for the Social Security taxes paid by the workers.

Social security benefits the icing on the cake for non Ameicans

Who is going to pay for it? Mexicans won't work as cheaply as the Chinese, as evidenced by the number of factories leaving Mexico for China.

There simply will not be the tax revenue to pay for this with the professional job losses we have only begun to experience.

My gut feeling tells me that Bush simply does not care what his core supporters think this time around.

Personally I dont like anyone taking my vote for granted, and Bush seems to be doing that this time around.

what I do not understand is where they get these "fradulent" numbers? do they just make them up? are the illegals paying into someone else's social security number "account"? or are the numbers totally false, and when the employer submits the payment under those totally false numbers, doesn't the social security administration kick back an alert that says, "we have no such person/number?".

let's face it, we aren't going to deport 10 million people out of the US forcibly, its just not going to happen. that's not to say they should get amnesty, they should not.

what is the middle ground answer to this? if we could layer enough taxes and beauracracy on employers who would hire these people (its amazing to me that employers hire illegals "on the books" and even submit SS paperwork for them), maybe we could create a natural dis-incentive for them to get employment here.

I am sure Bush isn't going to fret about that.

So a multinational corporation should have more political power than the individual citizen, most of whom do not want the flood of illegals in this country? Should they be thwarting the will of the American people, because they can make money doing it? Should the American people revoke the charters of corporations that violate our sovereignty?

I was thinking something along those lines myself.

The only reason these guys work for so little is the fact that they are here illegally. That and some of them have a chiquita with a social security number or two of her own collecting all the goodies, making whatever he brings in Walmart and slurpee money.

Making them legal takes care of the former but it does nothing to fix the other.

And we can't just legalize them all, can we? At that point can we just switch countries. They, the fifth column, the liberals, and the Free Traders can destroy whats left here and the saner of us can rebuild Mexico.

I've read that, in different wording, on this board. They think he is picking up so many votes from the middle that he can afford to lose his base.

Agreed! But hey, I just received my 2004 "Republican National Committee, Sustaining Member" letter. Minimum donation is $182. I'm glad I'm not being taken for granted. {/sarcasm}

but the ones hired on the books have "real jobs"; that is, if they work for a hotel in a kitchen or in housekeeping, they must get minimum wage, pay the SS and Medicare payroll deduction, etc. its just that their presence in this country in large numbers depress the wages that would otherwise be paid for those jobs if the illegals were not available.

i would really like to see how many are paid on the books, as opposed to off the books.

the middle is 20% of the electorate. each base has 40%. but our base is not monolithic, there are hot button issues that upset certain segments of it into not voting. but I have to believe that this illegal immigration one is a BIG hot button single issue.

We are not his core supporters. We are Conservatives and they've written us off as in their pocket. There's still time enough for a Perot like character to come on the scene and ... Oh, that could never happen, could it?

If you could hear the call in shows here in Phoenix you would be surprised at the wrath. I was shocked the first time I heard just how angry people are. There was a local show about a month ago focused on the work centers for illegals that are popping up. (Which they don't use incidentally)

When I said base I actually meant what is considered the far right. Whacko right, at this point. Anyone who believes in, to quote Savage, borders, language and culture.(I don't think these are whacko concepts but it is getting to the point where most people do). That is lower than 40 percent and whoever handles Bush, I think, is convinced they don't need these votes. Or they don't need most of them.

This won't work in the case of Bank of America and Wells Fargo and CitiBank. They are working directly with the State and Treasury departments to back door illegals into the mainstream. Since they don't hire the illegals, sanctions against employers won't stop them. In my mind they are a bigger threat to our sovereignty because their treason is so underhanded.

we have those "work centers" here in the northeast too, but those using them are day laborers, and are definetely off the books, they are not working "regular" jobs and paying SS.

The illegals do not pay taxes,

Even if they do they get millions in free health care and education, not to mention the pressure they put on the criminal justice system.

NO NO NO!!! Over our dead bodies. This is a massive giveaway to illegal aliens. This is the last thing the American people want. There's no popular clamor for this move to bankrupt our federal treasury to the tune of billions. Sorry Mr. President, you won't get my backing here.
