Former Republican U.S. Rep. John Thune will announce his political future Monday night, but there seems to be little doubt about what he will do.
Thune will make the announcement at Lincoln County's Lincoln Day Dinner in Sioux Falls.
Several of the former congressman's good friends in the state say he has decided to challenge Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle. Click on URL to read article

John Thune will he or won't he? That is the question on Many South Dakota voters minds. Monday night South Dakota will have their answer if Thune will go against Daschel in the 2004 Seante Race.

Republicans at the national level told Thune early on that if he is to enter another Senate race, he needs a staff with greater experience to avoid the mistakes of 2002, when he lost to Sen. Tim Johnson. i.e. be ready to fight as hard and dirty as the Dems

Ironic when one considers that the vote fraud trial of Maka Duda will begin soon.
Another "mistake" to be avoided.
To: pabianice
Then he better not run. Seems to lack the killer instinct.

He'll run. Rove'll turn the spigot on and he'll be very well funded. He'll lose another squeaker and replace Venaman or Norton in the Cabinet come January '05.

YOU SAID:

I AGREE!
Now if we can only get a strong effort funded against Reid, the Dumos will have to pick two new leaders. Hillary and Teddy Bare, perhaps??

South Dakota residents had some motivation to keep Daschle when the Rats controlled the Senate. Now that he's out of power, and can do nothing but filibuster, he's far less use to them.

All three lost.
I hope to have better luck this year!
Nothing would please me more than to send the South Dakota Troll packing!

This will not be good news for tiny tommie. The people in SD seem to feel that they are better served when they have a connection to both parties. With Janklow going to the clink, the way is clear for a female rat to win that seat. This fell into place when Thune said no to running for his old seat. That's advantage 1. Advantage 2 will be the "Talent- carahan-Ashcroft" syndrom. Thune was robbed by rat voter fraud and idiotic Republicans who voted for johnson because of advantage point #1. Immediately after the theft of the seat took place ( a lose by 500 votes when 1500 rat votes were stolen on an Indian Reservation) enough Republican idiots admitted what they did and were honest enough and sorry enough to say that they would NOT do that stupid crap again.
Advantage #3 W will roll all over and that includes SD.
Advantage #4 how-odd? dean will keep rat voters with any speck of American blood in their veins home.
Advantage #5 With so many fires all over the country, tiny tommie will be on his own as will other rat senators trying to hold back the sweeping tide.
Advantage #6 Since the rats have already stolen one from Thune, he will be smarter this time.
Advantage #7 W will move into a hotel in SD somewhere because he will be there so many times. Every time he does it will help.

To: Jeff Gannon
Speaking of which, Thune better have a great number of campaign staff in Shannon and Todd counties, the 2 western Indian counties, where the vote went against Thune by an unheard of 80%-90%, to make sure the voter fraud does not continue. Take away those counties, and Thune would've won.

Your analysis neglects one important point: an increasing number of Americans truly believe in the power of government to solve every human ill -- real and imagined. G.W. Bush proved this with his Kennedysque "No Child Left Behind Act," which will of course fail in its mission. Many in farming communities believe that they could not stay in business without government programs: such voters are likely to conceive a "Bush-Daschle" ticket-split in their own minds. I say SD stays with Daschle. I don't even think the Senate race there will be close. Still I will not be "saddened" if I am overstating Democrat power there.

Bush needs to discourage potential ticket splitters. They will decide this and many elections.

This has taken so long, I was beginning to think Daschle was blackmailing Thune to not run and delay an announcement until it was too late to find a replacement. How's that for a conspiracy theory? Still, people thought that Bob Graham was going to run, and look how that turned out. I will believe a Thune candidacy only when he announces it.
